"The Walt Disney Co. is teaming with Carnegie Mellon University to form a research and development lab for the media conglomerate’s theme parks, television networks and animation studios... One of the lab’s first tasks will be working on making robotic and virtual theme park characters more interactive with guests..."

Sounds like a great opportunity for CMU students.

This sounds like an interesting extension to Walt Disney Imagineering's "Living Character Initiative."

For several years, they've been working at making the company's Audio-Animatronic technology freely mobile.

The first was Lucky the Dinosaur (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVzQNjtOfeg), followed by Muppet Mobile Labs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Lrm_CgQW4s). The mobility platform that Muppet Mobile Labs is built upon is none other than the Segway HT.

The most recent character was WALL-E (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPLcVzRgwPY).
