ATTENTION TEAMS: This is the final call for Pascack Panda-monium 2008!!!
The deadline for registration is October 10th, 2008! This is the first Tri-state area event of the fall- let's start the season off with a bang!
Here's some important information:
Date: October 18th, 2008
Time: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Place: Pascack Hills High School, 225 W. Grand Ave., Montvale, NJ, 07645
Team Capacity: 32 Teams
Cost: $200 per team (If you bring a pre-rookie team, you pay $100 and the pre-rookie team gets in free!)
Game: FIRST Overdrive!
Other information:
We plan on using four-team alliances for the eliminations, provided we have enough teams.
As mentioned above- we've got an easy way to spread FIRST! If you bring a pre-rookie team, you will pay $100 for admission, and the pre-rookies will get in for free!
Special events: Door prizes and raffles!
We're giving away a brand-new LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT kit! Teams should note that Mindstorms uses a version of LabView to program- *hint* *hint* *nudge* *nudge*! :D
You can also check the CD-Events page (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/event/detail/4617) or the event site (http://pandemonium.team1676.com).
Teams should sign up here (http://pandemonium.team1676.com/pandamonium/register.html), and volunteers can register here (http://pandemonium.team1676.com/pandamonium/volunteers.html).
I know everyone will come out to support us and make the inaugural Pascack Panda-monium a great event!

Teams should note that Mindstorms uses a version of LabView to program- *hint* *hint* *nudge* *nudge*! :DA Mindstorms kit would be a useful help for any team (or team member) wanting to bring themselves up to speed on LabView, in preparation for the 2009 season. Just like Vex experience with EasyC was directly transferable, so it this. The kit is worth more than the registration fee, and someone's leaving with it on the 18th.

Making repairs this week and testing a new hybrid that we may or may not get to use depending on if we even have enough people in order to have a RoboCoach. See you all there.

Me, I am partial to Blueberry, so if anyone who's buying the pies reads this...
I just hope it's not - ugh - Rhubarb.
I think Apple is boring. Pecan is good, but OMG I'll probably gain another 20 pounds just thinking about it. Ditto shoofly - but this IS New Jersey...

All attending teams will receive "raffle" tickets at the start of the event and at a later point throughout the day the ticket number will be read and displayed and then that team will be able to recieve their prize.
Unfortunately, 1923 won't be able to make it. With so many of our students taking the PSAT the trip just isn't workable.
I'm sorry to miss out, I'm sure it'll be a great event.

Libby, some of 1089's students want to go to the Inventor workshop that day.

PASCACK Pre-Rookies please note:
Make sure your Robot Radio Modem is 2007 or 2008 vintage.
You must set a unique team number and tether up OI/RC.
This will make sure there will be no field communiation issues on Sat.

So after reading the email sent out with the 411 for the competition, it is bound to be on interesting competition for sure. I know I'm excited for this weekend... I'm looking for my NASCAR... errrr racing items ;) to bring with me (like a checkered flag... sadly I could not get a driver haha).
ANYWAYS... I am very excited!!! I have been planning out my homework schedule for the weekend (Saturdays are normally homework days for me) but it will be well worth it to do some more Friday night... Hopefully everyone is getting their well needed rest for the festivitives awaiting everyone in just a few short days!!!! Don't forget to bring your spirit and energy

Hmm...playoffs will be fun to watch. Why was the division style chosen as apose to a regular tourny? See you guys in 2 days:]
The division style was chosen to allow more teams to play in eliminations, and allow more matches for each team in elims. With a regular tourney, we would have had at most 16 teams playing, with 4 4-team alliances. Now, 18 teams will play a minimum of four matches in elims, and many will play more.
Just remember to bring batteries... because it's gonna be

On behalf of Team 1676, I'd like to thank all the teams and fans that came out to the first *hopefully* annual Pascack Panda-monium. We thank you for working with us while we worked out the kinks that came up, and hope you had a blast! We certainly did!
P.S. The Bergen Record, the major newspaper for Bergen County, has posted an article on Pascack Panda-monium. Read it here (http://www.northjersey.com/education/Pi-oneers_host_robotics_competition.html).

So I heard all the good news last night and wanted to convey the messages that the team members who attended had to say since nobody comes on CD. :P
By far this was one of our (ppl who attended) favorite off seasons to date. The people were friendly and the competition was great. We are definitely making this one of our annual off season competitions! Thank you so much to team 25 for choosing us as alliance partners and to the pre-rookies of 2791 as well. Also congratulations to our sister team 1302 for being finalists along with 271 and 369. The Pi-oneers really know how to put on a competition!
See you all at Brunswick Eruption 7!:D
EDIT: anyone have pictures or videos of the #1 alliance that they could email me? Please PM me if you do. Thanks.
It was an awesome competition, and I'm very surprised with the results. Thanks to 25 for picking us for the alliance, and thanks to 11 as well. Hopefully we'll be there next year (hopefully they'll change the date) with our own bot. Borrowing one just isn't the same. (Especially when you're given minutes to learn how to drive it) And Forbes, he had a blast. Here's some proof:
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e78/StrongwindZyph/P1100562.jpg
And for anyone who noticed we only had 3 people there, the rest of our team is Juniors and brand new freshman.. I think we still did well for having one mechanic and two programmers.. Most of it was luck, though. Next time we'll bring a driver.

Also would like to thank "Pauly Robots," John Park, and Sara (Last name escapes me, sorry) for being amazing FTAs/Scheduling people, and also to all the other volunteers for doing everything that you guys do, because without you this event would not have been possible!

PANDAMONIUM was one fun off-season event. honestly i cant say i had much more fun at others (and i been to quite a few)The wizards were -by a large margin - the team with the best image. You couldn't miss those purple robes everywhere...
Major congrats to the champions 25 (thanks for letting me coach!), 11, and prerookies 2791. You guys were all awesome.
Thanks to Killian and the Pi-oneers for letting me be announcer! It was my second time announcing an event and I had a blast!
Those pre-rookies from Latham were pretty amazing, eh? Watch out for them!
Also, excellent announcing. When's your chance at a regional?

I can't believe we survived. It all worked though. Also a huge thanks to the others who helped - Big Mike, the NASA guys, and a dozen others whose faces I know but not their names...

Poll question: If you went to Pandamonium, do you think Team 1676 should host it again next year (hopefully with more teams)?

Yea, I found it to be accessible from to different routes... Maybe next year we can try doing a better job advertising. Panda-monium turned out great for only running it's 1st. season. Once teams start to see it returning again then more should turn up. Maybe we can do some advertising in the NYC Regional as well as the NJ & SBPLI Regionals to get the other boroughs to come in as well (BX, QN and MA). Food was awesome which was a big plus, staff was friendly and the teams were very understanding on how we were doing things. That being said all we need is MORE teams to signup for next year and we'll be good to go :D.
P.S. THERE MUST BE ANOTHER PIE EATING CONTEST so jax1488 aka Jack Ferente can defend his title :D. Ahh how the memories of Jack getting down and dirty year after year :P.

Actually, I'm pretty sure he meant the other Sarah, Sarah Neid, the Scoring Queen.

How did the round robin finals go? Any thoughts?

From my team members on the topic of another PP:
Absolute YES. Fantastic event that can only get better with more publicity in the future and more teams. It gives our drivers more time to practice for other off seasons as well after a long summer of nothing to do.

Confusing but nevertheless we managed :D, That was the first time I dealt w/ Round Robin Elimination Matches so it confused me for the first 2 or 3 matches :)
I think the best part was having volunteers go back and forth from the score table to the pits to queue up teams manually since schedules were kinda difficult to produce.

We can definitely try to advertise again, but we did try really hard last year to get teams interested. We had flyers and buttons to hand out at both the NJ Regional (where we competed), and the NYC Regional (where we volunteered). We also handed these out to any NY/NJ/DE/PA teams in our division at the Championships, and we tried CD to spread the word. I think we got most of our teams to sign up by word of mouth though. But maybe now that we've hosted it once people will be more receptive to flyers/buttons :D

I know, teams will always be leary about attending a new off-season event thats being hosted for the first time. But once the event has been broken in then word should spread a bit quicker. I mean after all it's one of the more accessible ones in the Tri-State area w/ excellent food :D....

Mmmmm food =D I loved having breakfast and lunch there... made my dad get me food :p haha. But it was excellent =D I agree with Mike... there should definately be at least 24 teams next year... we'll spread the word around, and come on, who doesn't want to attend offseasons? Especially ones with cute lil pandas :] Maybe... we need more pandas  lol... and then have the lil pandas perform the game... people love pandas haha. But seriously, there will definately be more teams wanting to attend and I surely can't wait :D

I bet that little panda will never forget that day ever lol...
I think he's the youngest FIRST off-season mascot I've seen so far.
Hmm... now where can we adopt additional pandas *ponders*
