In 15 mins the registration will open for 2009 regionals and most likely FIRST's server will bog down.

Please post how long it takes you to get through.

Where do I go to find the "add event" option? I'm doing this for the first time. Thanks!

EDIT:

Never mind...I had to answer the control system question first.

I'm getting "No Events Found" with no add button. Perhaps this is because I haven't selected the early control system preference?

You have to go into the shipping options and select "no" (or "yes") for early shipping, then the "Add Event" button will appear.

Total time was about 10 minutes, but that was because I forgot my shipping information and not a system problem. Another year starting off smoothly here.

Registration for Michigan Events seemed to go ok, about 10 minutes. We are registered for Detroit (WSU) and Kettering.

In the informational conference call for the Michigan teams, they said we would be able to pick 1st choice and 2nd choice, but the system only gave checkboxes so there was no way for teams to prioritize #1 and #2. Hope that doesn't become a problem when events start to fill.....

Initial event registration was smooth; the new control system option wasn't there yesterday, and needs to be completed prior to registering for an event.

There's a little bit of a glitch in that some teams who should be allowed to register for the 2009 Championship (veteran, didn't attend in 2008) haven't been properly authorized to do so in the TIMS system. (This won't affect everyone—they're looking into who's been missed.) Give FIRST a call at (603) 666-3906 or (800) 871-8326, and they'll set it up for you.

Bug.
Looks like the exact opposite of what Tristan is describing???
Looks like some teams who should be able to register don't have the access, and some teams who shouldn't be able to register do have access?? idk.

The other bug which I called FIRST about is that they are only issuing odd team numbers for rookies. if they don't get it fixed before most of the teams registered the team numbers will be very inflated even more then they already are.

There were two - notice the team count is back down to 34 (although open capacity on the main page is still at 0).

The NZ team was listed as from Manchester, NZ and was sponsored by Wally World. The Canadian team was sponsored by Brenda's School of Smarts. There was also a Manchester YMCA + Manchester West HS (although 501 already registered).

It looks like there are a few "dummy" teams I am seeing throughout the schedule. In pre-testing the TIMS in the past, we've "created" teams, but these teams should not be showing up

Team 980 registered for the Los Angeles (Long Beach) Regional in less that 10 minutes this morning, just after registration opened.

Signing up for early shipping of control system ate up just a few of those precious minutes...

Getting into TIMS was a little slow initially, but not at all painful.

Congrats to the IT wizards for FIRST TIMS for a job well done!

Not that we could afford to go....but how come the New Zealand Regional isn't on the Events site?Bill's Blog (http://frcdirector.blogspot.com/) has the answer to that and another question or two.

As you register you might notice there's no New Zealand Regional listed. It takes a lot to set up a new regional event in a short time and the decision was made a the final hour that New Zealand wouldn't participate as a regional in 2009. I want to thank the volunteers who worked tirelessly to recruit teams and who scrambled to organize a regional event in less than a year. FRC is working with those volunteers to make sure the existing New Zealand teams can participate on some level in 2009 and we hope to have a New Zealand Regional in 2010.

Hi we are a rookie team and we just got our number 2834. Awesome!

I have a question about the Early Control System Shipment. Does anybody know what is in that shipment besides the new controller? Is the LabVIEW software included in that? What can a rookie team without a robot do with it? I hate to spend extra money to have it shipped to us and having it sit there until January.

I have a question about the Early Control System Shipment. Does anybody know what is in that shipment besides the new controller? Is the LabVIEW software included in that?

Here is the list of components that the beta teams recieved, I would assume that the same components would be in the control system kit that gets shipped out:

1 FIRST specific cRIO
2 analog modules
2 analog bumpers
2 digital I/O modules
2 pneumatic bumpers
1 digital output sourcing module
1 digital sidecar
1 power distribution board
1 driver station
1 wireless adapter set
1 camera
2 joysticks
assorted cables and connectors
a DVD of software that will be shipped by NI

Also, as far as what can you do with it, I would say take the opportunity to learn LabView/C++ as it pertains to the controller, and maybe pick up a couple of servos from your local hobby supplier to use instead of speed controllers for basic controls testing...at least with the servos you can see the results of your code, and not just the feedback into labview.

You have no idea how hard it is to start a new team. Our school has no shop. We managed to find a build site outside of school. It is as empty a space as it can get. We have no tools, not even a screwdriver. We have one sponsor (very fortunate for us) that will cover our entry fees. We have rejections after rejections from other companies due to the poor economy in Southeast Michigan. I have never done this before and I am the only engineer on the team. I do have another parent who will help with programming. My only comfort is that so many teams around here are willing to help if you ask. Without these veteran teams' help it would be impossible to do it on our own.

Welcome to FIRST :-)
You are no different than my team two years ago. You are entering during an interesting time. Everything is in flux and you might not be in as bad shape as you think. My advise to you is this: keep your goals and robot simple. Work on your drivetrain and one or two aspects of the game. Figure out those one or two things you want to do well and make sure you can do them consistently. Get decent set of hand tools, sabersaw, and cordless power drill. Also check out this post for a better list of tools:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50903&highlight=FRC+tools

Find a good veteran team and get on their coattails. Ask a lot of questions and make sure you get answers you understand. Good luck to you and if I can help, feel free to contact me via this forum.
