This summer Team 1114 had the opportunity to form a new and exciting sponsorship with the popular teen drama "Degrassi: The Next Generation (http://www.the-n.com/ntv/shows/index.php?id=67)". Degrassi is the most popular Canadian show among teenagers, with literally millions of people tuning in each week around the world.

The latest season of Degrassi premiered Sunday night in Canada, and if you watched the opening credits carefully, you would have seen Team 1114's 2006-2007 World Champion VEX robot prominently featured. (The 0:21 mark, if you're that lazy.)

This episode can be seen this upcoming Friday night in the US, on "the N" network.

There'll be more of Team 1114 on Degrassi's upcoming episodes. I can't say too much, but in February expect to see a lot of Team 1114 (FRC and VEX, as well as students) featured prominently in an ongoing storyline. It should be an awesome way to expose robotics and FIRST to millions of teens across the world!

As the major episodes get closer, I'll post more details and air times. Until then, tune in to Degrassi each week and who knows what you might see.

Congrats 1114! As I've told you before this is a huge accomplishment. To my knowledge this will be the most publicity a single FIRST team has ever received. I look forward to seeing how your robots are incorporated into the episodes.

Amazing what a simple high school robotics team can accomplish when they work hard for something.

Keep it up 1114 and don't ever stop doing what you do. This is a huge deal for FIRST. Congratulations.

I had such an addiction to Degrassi, and I was so ready to give it up this season (since all the original cast is now "college students"). But I think I will give it another shot just to see 1114!

Congratulations on such an awesome accomplishment!

How did you manage to get involved with this anyway?

I've always been the one to cringe when my sisters flip on the channel to watch degrassi, but now I think I may just join them.
I like how robotics can get me to do things from machining to watching cheesy teen shows....
I'm sure 1114 had tons of fun filiming, and I can't wait to see more!

Is that what Degrassi is about? I've never really watched this show before.

And good job on landing the airtime! This is definately a huge step in publicizing FIRST to the world.

Is that what Degrassi is about? I've never really watched this show before.

Degrassi: The Next Generation is a Canadian teen drama television series, set in the Degrassi fictional universe created by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood in 1980...

Degrassi: The Next Generation follows a group of students attending Degrassi Community School who face challenges common to teen life, such as self image, peer pressure, child abuse, sexual identity, self-injury, school shootings, teenage pregnancy and drug abuse.

Fantastic job. This is a terrific way to get the word out. Looking forward to a little Simbot- Degrassi action! I know the show is very popular and deals with a number of real life teen issues.

This week on Degrassi...

In episode 805, which premiered on the-n on Friday, and re-airs this Sunday at 9:30 pm, as well as on CTV in Canada at 7:30pm on Sunday, Team 1114 had a few cameos, including:
- Two scenes with the students working on the 2005/6 1114 VEX Robot
- CAD images of the 2008 1114 FRC robot displayed on monitors in the background
- The FIRST: Behind The Design book being used as text book.

Here's a picture of one of the scenes from the Degrassi Website

http://www.the-n.com/media/flipbook/ntv/degrassi/805/deg_805_01.jpg

It's pretty neat, the scene where they were working on their VEX robot at home was no longer than a minute, but involved three of us being on set for an entire afternoon. (The robot is actually being driven off camera by Simbotics' FRC driver, Brandon Pruniak)

Anyways, check it out if you're interested! (And be sure to watch the credits!)

I've seen that documentary its well done, but I doubt it reached the hundreds of thousand (probably millions) of young people that Degrassi does.

"Clare gets invited to the dance by K.C. AND Connor. When it looks like their struggle for her attention will jeopardize Robot Wars, she decides to go with neither. "

This will be the first half of a two part episode featuring Team 1114's 2008 robot Simbot SS, as well as a plethora of 1114 students. This episode will be airing in Canada on CTV at 7:30 pm on Sunday. This same episode will be airing in the US sometime in February on The N.

Unfortunately, CTV has to geo-lock their content due to international copyright laws. This episode is scheduled to air as a one hour Degrassi movie special in February on the-N network in the US.

Thanks for the CTV link. I didn't get a chance to tune in yesterday. Great episode! Has anyone tried some IP spoofing software? I had used a copy to access a US only website but now I can't seem to find it on my computer(s). It was software for public wireless access users to hide their machine from being scanned.

the geo-lock software CTV is using is the same as the one that Discovery Canada used for GTR and the archive there after

im going to start at season one and work my way up, since i used to watch this show when i was younger.

Not sure if this is a false alarm, but according to zap2it.com and muchmusic.com, episode 809 of Degrassi, "Lost in Love" part 2 is scheduled to air on MuchMusic at 7:00 pm. This episode will show the culminating Robotics competition, including appearances by Team 1114's 2006-2008 robots as well as 10 1114 students acting as extras.

This comes as a surprise to me, as this episode was scheduled to air in Canada in January. It may just be a listing mistake, so we'll have to tune in to find out. The episode is also scheduled to air at 10:30 pm on Wednesday. (Immediately after a showing of last week's episode, which also featured Team 1114)

Today I was watching TV and flipped channels to MTV to watch America's Best Dance Crew (my secret favorite show). Lo and behold I didn't see ABDC but instead Degrassi was on and within 5 minutes I saw 1114's robot. It was a crazy experience. I for one did not know that Degrassi was even on MTV. Now 1114 is getting even more buzz and publicity for their team on one of the biggest networks in the USA, way to go.
