1319 will be there once again. We had a blast last year. There is a great group of teams that show up there and we hope to see them all again this year. We have a much larger group of students and mentors this year and hope to do some great things on and off the field. I too can say the FLASH is all in and then some! Can't wait.

MiM will try to defend the title. We're trying twins this year, but the other bot won't be at Peachtree.

Maybe we can defend the title together again. Twins are always interesting to me, who is the other team?

Josh Drake

There's a rookie team down in Columbia (2815). It was a chance for us to work with Don Griffith again:)

We seem to have a poor record at Palmetto (0 wins)

hipsterjr
10-11-2008, 14:56
Drake, do you mind if 342 throws our hat in the ring and help 343 and 1319 defend your title? Maybe you can help us regain our title in Palmetto as well! 342 is defiantly looking forward to attending peachtree for the first time.

P.S. 1319 give us Mike Bryan back and there will be no problems:rolleyes: .

Are we turning this into a border war? All SC alliance.... I'm sure there are teams from other states that would like to win Peachtree!:D

No one is saying they can't win. I'm sure there will be all GA alliances and if they don't like it, they can come to Palmetto for a shot at SC hardware.

OH Gentlemen, this year 1261 and 1746 will once again be striking up a challenge in Palmetto. Better bring the cavalry, cause we're bringing everything we've got.

1771 - You in for Palmetto?

And as far as the all SC alliance is considered, let's be logical for a second. 1. the game hasn't even been announced. 2. if all 3 teams do considerably well, then there is no way that either 343, 342, or 1319 is around for a 3rd pick.

2. if all 3 teams do considerably well, then there is no way that either 343, 342, or 1319 is around for a 3rd pick.

Sadly, this is very true. This is exactly why we weren't together at Palmetto last year:( . We'll just have to see how things turn out.

10-11-2008, 21:48
There is a certain Georgia team Cough*832*Cough that 1319 wouldn't mind crossing party lines and taking home the gold with. But seriously all the Georgia teams are great and we look forward to playing with or against you and hope to see alot of you in Palmetto as well.

sdcantrell56
10-11-2008, 22:13
Unfortunately we are not signed up for Palmetto and I don't believe there are any slots open, plus I don't think we have the funds for that.

It looks like we are just going to have to win Peachtree...sorry everyone else :D

Hmmm...an alliance with 1319, 342 and 832 has a certain "ring" to it:)

We'll just have to wait and see. Anything can happen at these competitions and usually does. Chimera 832 is looking forward to seeing all of you at Peachtree!

Seems that this forum has kinda died down. So, just FYI, any teams who are attending the P'Tree Regional can contact the robolions, or me. We can give you the hook ups on Hotels, Places to eat, things to do, etc. etc.

We take the pride in the fact that we're the closest team to the regional location. Literally a 5 mins drive.

No team Social:(

Due to cost cutting measures issued from FIRST headquarters and given the current economic state affecting fundraising, we regret to inform you that we will be unable to offer a formal team social this year at the Peachtree Regional. However, we are currently in contact with the Gwinnett Department of Tourism to secure discount and free offers from resturants and entertainment venues in the Duluth area. Our goal is to make available to our participants low to no-cost options each day before and after the event. Please check back often as we will post all offers as we receive them. This will help with your team plans during your off-time.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. We look forward to seeing each of you at the Peachtree!

Flash: great job in Ohio, we were here watching and cheering for you.

The only offer so far from the regional planning commitee is the Medieval Times, but that's still $25 a head. We may do the same thing, hang out as a team at a restaurant, and talk scouting. I just wish the students could interact and cut loose (a little).

Last year we were on an open corner facing the practice field. Lots of room:)

Even better:ahh:

What happened in the 63-64 round, did your alliance have a super cell? I seem to remember some scoring controversy. Oh well, as Mike might say: "smile and wave boys, smile and wave." All in all, a very good showing for your team and our state. Oh yeah, this is the Peachtree thread....:yikes:

Actually live scoring had us winning by twenty points, however when the moon rocks stopped flying and the score was tallied we somehow lost by one point. The only super cell scored was by our alliance. The scoring controversy continued (a whole other thread would be needed) and we indeed did do the Smile and Wave routine.

I live literally 5 minutes away from the Peachtree Regional. And I may be able to help. I dont know where everyone is staying, but there are hotels near the Discover Mills mall. That is always an option.

» There is an AMC 18 movie theater in the mall. $8 per person (I think)
» Suwannee Park is pretty close, but is not in walking distance from Peachtree Regional. We could bring soccer balls, frisbies, or whatever. There are also resturants all around the park. Five Guys (Burgers and Fries), Ippilitos(Italian food), Old Town Grill (sandwichs) are some that I know of. North Gwinnett (Team 1771) may know more than me. They are closer to the park.

Here is the website for AMC 18 at Discover Mills Mall:
(For Thursday March 12, Friday and Saturday are not availible yet[as of 3/4/09])

ttldomination
04-03-2009, 16:18
Not sure about the webcast. Not sure if the Suwanee Green will be closer to
Peachtree Park. But either, way, they're both great.

Discover Mills is also amazing simply as a mall. They have movies, Glow in the dark putt-putt, medieval times, movies, and always the famed jillians.

We're planning on going laser tagging though. :D. Assuming we can get it set up, I'm sure we'll give other teams an opportunity to join us.

Basically anything you wanna do, Atlanta's Game. Except for go-karting. :D.

And I wouldn't suggest walking anywhere. :D. These streets be dangerous. Unless your staying at the Holiday Inn or eating at the Loafing Leprechaun, which I have to add is a great restuarant.

Isn't there a safety rule about these things being indoors? I know, parking lot.
I'll try Palmetto instead. I don't have much ammo at this time. There were more things I wanted to do with it, but ran out of time when the build season hit.
If other teams want to shoot shirts out of "Gail Force" maybe we can do that. I'll have to see what I have time for, or can get a student to do at the regionals.

I'm staying at my house. It's a nice cozy place with all of the amenities of home. :D

The Marriott is a nice hotel, but it's a fair distance from the arena. Almost half an hour to forty minute drive. Why didn't you choose to stay at the Holiday Inn, which is literally walking distance, I believe the parking lot of the Holiday Inn and the center are connected, or I believe there are two other hotels about 2 minutes from the center just across the highway.

:D. Need Directions from Hotel to Arena?

Because I didn't have a say in lodging, but I'm sure there was a reason. Google maps says about 22 min. You should have seen our drive from our hotel to the Florida regional, about 40mins:( , that sucked after a long day.

Sorry about the double post, but just as an FYI, one thing I noticed at P'tree yesterday was that teams don't show up.

If anyone here reads this before coming to P'tree today, please remember, SHOW UP TO MATCHES. If your manipulator isn't working, then fine. As long as you can drive, please show up.

Empty trailers hang out to dry, and decent human players go to town on the trailers and there are easily 30 points in one trailer, and then if the other team gets a super cell...well then it's almost impossible to win.

As the game announcer on Sat. it was just to exciting that I had to sacrifice my voice for the teams. If you did not watch the matches you missed some amazing play. 3 of the 4 quarterfinals and 1 semifinal went to 3 matches and the finals featured the #8 vs. #7 with the #8 winning the event.

Congratulations to all the winners, especially Kell High School for Chairman's Award. I came back in town to see the team I have mentored in the past 2415 - the WiredCats), who got off to a rough start. We had a tough time in the qualification matches, but started to improve with time. Team 2655 - the PlatyPi must have seen our improvements, because they picked us as well as team 832 - Chimera for the 8th seeded alliance.

From there, everything was golden for the alliance, as they won over the #1 alliace (1771, 1746, and 547? - excellent robots as well) in 4 rounds (one match was reset mid way through for communications problems and the reset ended in a tie). After winning in 2 matches in the semis, the #8 alliance went on to the finals to face teams 590, 1319, and 342 (the #7 alliance - I can't remember ever seeing the bottom two alliances face off in the finals). After two hard-fought rounds, the 8th seeded alliance of 2415, 2655, and 832 was victorious!

Anyways, I really enjoyed coming home for the Peachtree regional this year, it was a very exciting event! Congratulations again to all the winners and to all my friends at team 2415 for an incredible run! Hope to see everyone at Championships!

We would also like to thank 1746 and Mr. Folea (congratulations on the Outstanding Volunteer Award!) for letting us practice on their practice field so many times, helping us with programming, and just being very helpful in general and inspiring us with GP spirit. As well as 1771 for scrimmaging with us / building an incredible robot.

Also, I'd like to thank all the people (I think I talked to 343, 34, 1771, 2007, 2918, 2362, 1648, and 1758 on Saturday) who patiently answered my questions, thanks!

And of course, to all the announcers and referees and judges (who were always pleasant to talk to) and volunteers that made this event possible, thanks so much.

Hope everyone had an awesome Pi Day!

I guess my shout out will be a little different. Of course thanks all around to everyone who made it happen, and made it great. :)

I didn't get to play the Lockheed Martin simulator, but my younger kids had a blast playing Lunacy and Overdrive on the computers. My 6 year old son placed second in the finals, so I know he had a great time at it. Thanks to team 1002 for putting that event on.

Congratulations to everyone - you are all champions.

Thank you to everyone - you are all dear friends.

Good luck to everyone advancing to Atlanta.

And a million cheers to Rick Folea - volunteer of the year is an understatement - it should be superhero of the year.

Congrats to all - especially the dedicated volunteers that put the event on.

From our perspective, it was exceptionally well run and supported.

Geez, we even got to the point where we were running rounds every 5 minutes!!!! Incredible.

Looking forward to seeing all of our friends at Palmetto (hopefully Otto's wounds will have healed by then! We got him some little smiley face band-aides ...)

Thank you to everyone. It was an extremely well run event as usual. I want to especially give a thanks to 1746 and 547. You guys were both great partners and with a couple slight changes, things would have looked a whole lot different. Thanks 1746 for letting us practice with you guys all season. I wish you guys the best of luck at Palmetto and at the Championship.

There's absolutely no way we could have done this without our amazing alliance, so thanks to them. I would've never dreamed we would win in only our second year of existence. T'was a glorious Pi day!

We never dreamed it also... Thanks so much for selecting us and getting past our record of 2-7 in qualification. It was a great run, and can't wait to see you at championships. And 832, yall were amazing also. Thanks!

REMINDER TO ALL PEACHTREE REGION PARTICIPANTS

DON'T DISASSEMBLE YOUR ROBOTS AT THE END OF THE SEASON!

Your friendly neighborhood GeorgiaFIRST committee is planning at least one (possibly TWO) offseason events this year!

And YOU are invited!

Stay tuned for details ...

And as always, be sure to keep an eye on www.GeorgiaFIRST.org for news about events.

Thanks to all the volunteers, mentors, students, parents and sponsors that made Peachtree a success. I look forward to seeing you all again next year..or sooner.

As Rick mentioned we will be having an offseason event this year so stay tuned. The GeorgiaFIRST website is www.gafirst.org (correction to post above).

Get some sleep and I hope to stop by the event in SC to see some of you in action again.

On behalf of the Peachtree inspection team, I just want to thank everyone for your efforts in making the inspection process run smooth. We had a couple "late bloomers" but all in all things went well. Team 34 travels to the "Lone Star" Regional next and then I'll be returning to Georgia for the Championship as a lead inspector. I hope to see all of you there!

Congrats to all the award winners (especially team #1311).

Just wanna say thanks to all the volunteers and people who helped put this year's Peachtree Regional together. I personally had the best time I've had at a regional and this is my 5th year.

Congratulations Teams 2655, 2415, and 832 for winning. Also to Team 1311 for the Chairman's award.

Hope to be there again next year!

I would ALSO like to say thankx to all. And I mean ALL.

There were a couple calls we wish could have gone our way, but none the less we still had fun, and for our freshmen, and some of our veterans, this was the most fun they've had.

Thankx to 57, and 1311 for agreeing to be with us. :D.

We would also like to thank 1771 and 1746 for their great support this year, and I honestly believe your alliance was the best one out there.

I (and others) from team 2415 said this same thing both before and after the playoff rounds yesterday. Team 1771's robot is incredibly well built, and funnily enough we ended up having very similar robots for two years in a row (last year we were the two teams to utilize suction and this year we both have spirals with turreting shooters). I fully expect to see them dominate at championships if they come. Still shocked that we won, and excited for championships!

Team 2415, the Westminster WiredCats, would like to thank the following teams for helping make Peachtree Regional '09 so much fun!

Many many thanks to 2655 and to 832 for some awesome matches and major upsets! Thanks again for selecting us for the alliance, and we'll be looking for you at Championships in April!

Thanks to 342, for giving us some PWM cables when we desperately needed them.

Thanks to 442, for helping us so much with our coding problems.

More thanks to 832, for lending us a victor.

Thanks to 1002, for being pretty much the first team we asked whenever we needed things, since you were right next to us.

Thanks to 1261, for helping us find the nearest Kinko, and for lending us a battery, even though everything was already packed.

Thanks to 1311, for starting us last year and mentoring us still. Your guidance in 842's project was so helpful. By the way, we still have your 2x4's. Sorry.

Great thanks to 1414, for cheering us on and pumping up all of our team so that we've all more or less lost our voices :)

Thanks to the coach of 1415, for understanding and diverting potentially awkward situations between our teams.

Thanks to 1533, for lending us 2 batteries. Without those two, we would not have been able to compete in the finals at all.

Thanks to 1746, for lending us yet another battery.

Thanks to 1771, 547, 1746, 2119, 587, 1102, 1319, 590, and 342, for an amazing end to Peachtree.

Thanks to 2420, for letting us charge some of our batteries in your pit and eventually giving us the charger.

Congrats to 900, 1771, 343, 1746, 1533, 34, 342, 1319, 1398, 1848, 2967, 3091, 2918, 1002, and 1311 for their awards!

Most importantly, thanks to all the judges, referees, and volunteers who make these events possible. Thanks again to all the amazing teams we've met over the past few days, and we look forward to seeing you next year!

All the best,

Yup thanks to team 2655 for picking us after we were ranked 43 out of 46. It was very interesting because we finally got our robot completely working for the last qualification match but we got DQed haha...

And to 832, since I was a freshman in high school on 1002, I think we might have been alliance like 6 total times including qualification matches and we have never won a match together. This year we won 6 matches together.

First thing I thought when we got picked was crap, we have to play otto and north gwinnett. 1771, you guys might have one of the best robots in the country for this game this year and some of the best drivers.

Thanks to all the teams that helped us with spare parts: team Soup-1848, Tech High and The Robojackets - 2420, The CircuitRunners - 1002, Team 547, The Robo Lions - 1261, and the others I am forgetting

Thanks to 1533 for helping us out with our battery issues because there was no way we could have made it through the playoffs without yalls battery charger and batteries to borrow.
Thanks to team 1414 for helping us out cheering as well as all the other teams including 1002, 1848, and others.

Congrats to Mr. Folea for winning Volunteer of the year.
Congrats to triple strange for winning the Judges award
Congrats to wheeler for winning EI

Congrats to Mr. Barker and team 1311 Kell Robotics for winning chairmans and thanks for all your help throughout the past couple of years with helping us get off of teh ground. You guys really deserved it
And thanks to all the volunteers and judges and refs for helping put on a great regional.

And congrats to all my KIDDIES for not giving up even when we went 2-7. They did a great job of persevering and they just kept trying to make the robot better even when we thought we had no chance of the playoffs.

Take your pick from two scenarios.

1. The 120A circuit breaker was broken and not providing power to the robot.

2. There was an issue with the field that the FTA and others could not figure out and wanted to keep matches moving. (I am not accusing anyone of anything shady, however we were not given any answers other then it was our robot. Which it may have been)

EDIT: Also are alliance partner 590s robot stopped working in the last final match, we assumed it too was a bad 120A cb, however I am not sure if any of 590s members confirmed it.
It worked in the next match and we did not change anything. When 342 broke there wheel we replaced our 120A cb just to be on the safe side. We have not done any testing on the cb to see if it is bad, but we will be. We have never had a problem with one has anyone else?

We had that same circuit breaker problem that one time with us also. The robot was definitely turned on as we got a voltage before the match on the driver station but once the match started our robot was off. When we went to look, the breaker had been slightly sprung open. We taped it closed next match and had no problems, replaced it later. We probably had a similar issue, funny that it was at a similar time.

I can tell you that it had not sprung open, as we had made it very clear for no one to touch the robot until the problem was figured out. Eventually we had to move it not knowing waht the problem was as time was an issue.

IMHO, It was option #1. I know because I was the guy with my face in your robot when this was happening. There were no LED's illuminated on the power distribution block shortly after the match started. I confirmed there was no power on the Bridge or the cRIO and the RSL was off. The exact same thing happened to 590. I saw this 3 times on Saturday. I brought this up in the inspector's post event confrence call and it has happened before at other events and other years. The 120A breaker is not bullet proof apparently.

And yes, he is completely correct. It wouldnt stay closed. We took it off and got a new one that we are putting in right when we get to Palmetto.

They said if the robot was off they would have stopped the match but what had happened we it gave a voltage reading as the match started but like seconds later the breaker failed and the robot turned off. Therefore they couldnt do anything about it and had to let the match run.

It was completely fair. Unfortunate, but completely fair. Plus we won that one.

I am not sure what to tell teams who wantt o check this problem but I believe that Flash said that they had this issue as well. Just beware about this problem. Maybe test your switch before matches to ensure that it doesn't pop out. Or Tape it like us haha

It seems pretty clear that the WiredCats problem was with the main breaker, and Flash's too. But to have so many go out at once seems unlikely; not impossible, but unlikely. We have had main breakers go out before, but on older robots that have retired from competition. Never had one go out during a competition that I can remember. But I plan on bringing a spare to Championships:D

I can't remember an elims round where so many robots didn't work at some point in a round. Our alliance had problems, #1 had problems, seems like others did as well. I wonder if there's an issue with this batch of main breakers? Or maybe just an issue with teams getting excited and forgetting the basics:ahh:

Tom,

In our lab there was an incident where we had a problem with the breaker and I quickly looked at it and thought it was bad. If I remember right it didn't latch on correctly.

We were planning on replacing it and that task got forgotten.

I'm a little nervous about this years batch.

I believe what I'm about to say should be relevant to Peachtree, but this may have occurred elsewhere as well.

In SF 1-2, our robot would drive. More specifically, our pick-up and dumping mechanisms functioned the entire match, but our drive motors never did. There is no way to know whether or not the Jaguars driving the two cims were getting a signal, but I doubt it. The jags were connected properly before and immediately after the match, when I checked. Back at the pit (after we lost), we immediately tethered and drove the robot. It operated flawlessly. Our team has mixed feelings about why this happened, but I believe it was a field issue. However, it was only the drive motors (which plug into to pwms 1 and 2, so maybe the signal for those weren't getting there?!?!).

Did any other teams have issues with their robot mysteriously work only partially? This has really been bugging me...

PlatyPi Gunner
22-03-2009, 19:10
we did actually in qf-2 i think as well as the 2nd match before eliminations. It only occurred when we were on the blue side, blue 3 to be more specific. Also, our shooters were the only thing that worked as well, me managed to score like 3 balls on a robot that got too close. They blamed our drivers station, and gave us a new one

and as for our robot not being turned off, we were essentially stationary for the latter half of the match, and i'm pretty sure the belt didn't leave the inside of the robot until i pulled it off at the end, and if it did we were in the center of a jumble of robots and it would've been hard to notice.:)

.. it confused me to why 1746 didn't call a timeout when their bot was on the fritz

We didn't know we had a problem until it was too late....

For the record, the actual sequence of events was:

1. Broke a chain. Still not sure why.
One group thinks we simply lost a master link
The other group thinks our chains had a lot of slack
in them and a hit at just the right time got one cocked
wrong on a sprocket. That coupled with the fact that
it was really crappy chain -> bye-bye.

2. Threw a chain - The previous mishap really messed things
up so now the chain was loose enough to come off by itself
Quickly added a chain tensioner to take up slack

3. Loose wire. Probably knocked loose during previous repairs.
Broke free right at the start of the match. Ugh.

It's hard to overcome 3 catastrophic failures in a row ...

While we were "Undefeated" through the quals, we really can't
take credit for it. We had an unbelievable amount of good
fortune. Geez .. the first match our guys forgot to plug
the bridge ethernet cable in, but because they had the Team light
wired wrong, no one could tell ... Special thanks to 1533 and 1304
for winning that one - boy was that embarrassing!

The kids were crushed for loosing the finals for such crazy reasons,
not only for us, but also for 1771 who REALLY deserved to be there ...

We also want to thank 547 - they were awesome - did everything
we asked them to do and were very gracious about the whole thing.
If you ever need a partner, check these guys out - they are great!

We learned a lot at Peachtree, rest assured those lessons will be
addressed for Palmetto. We can't wait!

See you in a couple days!

See you in a couple days!

thats not too bad...few years ago santosh and i went on the field and was scratching our heads on why nothing worked...we forgot to reinstall the robot controller....now THATS EMBARRASSING

but...
fortunately for us we had all our problems during the qualifiers.

we were undefeated the first day, but our whole 2nd day of qualifiers was a big disaster, first off our wiring on our compressor was loose, so we could pick up the moon rocks, but not shoot them. 2nd match, we apparently had a driver's station problem so we didn't work then. third match 1746, 1319 and co. just wrecked us. then the second elimination round we didn't work again, but we got a different thingamajig, which seemed to work. after that we didn't have any problems until one of our bands snapped in the finals.

ps. chains are the devil

Does anyone know why the standings page (http://www2.usfirst.org/2009comp/Events/GA/rankings.html) on the usfirst.org page for the Peachtree Regional is empty? Does anyone have this information?

The other pages - match results, awards, etc. - are there. Only that is missing.

I want to parse this data for statistical use. This is the only page I'm missing.

Actually, you have those switched. I remember as our alliance reaped the benefits of the malfunction, scored a supercell on ourselves, and still got the <G14> (but only for doubling not tripling). (http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/team/2655)

The Blue Alliance (http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/event/2009ga/teams) has all of the match scores. If you click on a team, you can see their overall record as well as their record at Peachtree. This is really inefficient, but it is a method of retrieving those stats if you really want them.
