Ok, this is probably really unrelated to the topics usually going around here, but this is really important.
I'm doing this project for school, and I have to find a famous persons' address. So I picked Dean Kamen. Now here's my question. What is Dean Kamen's address?!?!?!! I NEED this answered in less then a hour. If you have the anwser, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

It's publically available. Trying searching Wikipedia to see what town he lives in, then look him up at whitepages.address.com

Welcome to Chief Delphi!

According to a quick Wikipedia search: Dean Kamen lives in Bedford, New Hampshire, although he also takes residence at North Dumpling Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Dumpling_Island). As for a specific address that may be difficult to find.

Also, you may want to note where you place threads. For future reference this is the CD Forum Support forum, for problems with the Chief Delphi website. This would probably be better placed in the Chit-Chat forum or the General Forum.

First, welcome to Chief Delphi. Second, even if I had that address I would not give it out. An address is a personal thing and should not be distributed. If he wanted it known it would be available. Since it is not he obviously does not want that information distributed. Now, if you wanted information on Dean Kamen I am sure that people here could help you with that.

Also, could we have a mod move this to the appropriate forum and have Alex come up with a more descriptive name for it? Thanks

Thank you so much for your replies. Thanks for the advice on where to place certain posts, I am new here, so I might make some mistakes at first.

Hi Alex.
We all have made mistakes learning to navigate Chief Delphi. When you have a little bit of time - like maybe over the weekend - look through the different sections and spend some time reading through the stickies in each area. Those can be very helpful.

It's an amazing thought that CD can be used to research a famous person who is living and who is of interest to you. I would have loved to have been able to research Benjamin Franklin like that. Wow, now that's a thought!

I'm doing this project for school, and I have to find a famous persons' address.

This is probably the creepiest homework assignment I've heard of in a few years. What class is this for?

I'm glad I'm not famous.

First of all, I'm sure either of Branden's answers is probably close enough for the assignment; North Dumpling Island will at least be humorous. The man does value his privacy I'm sure. Besides, isn't Dean a  man of the world? Wherever he is, that's his home. Okay, his house is probably where he picks up his mail.

Second of all, having other people do your homework assignments, even as panic strikes and the hour is approaching midnight, is not very nice. Why didn't you think of doing this before sundown? Honestly, I'm going to suggest to the school committee that high school should be from 7pm to 3am. That's when all you kids are up anyway. :yikes:

Besides, I had found his address here at ChiefDelphi -- well, not exactly here, but following an unrelated thread offsite and a couple of links came up with his address, right there in tiny print. I don't think it was purposeful (I'm sure the person doing the links wouldn't want the info known) but with some work I managed to find his house on one of those aerial map websites. Come to think of it, is it where he really lives, or is it where he wants people think he lives at?

To do the same you just have to go to .... Well, you didn't really think I'd do your work for you, did you? :P

Very creepy indeed. This must be one of those assignments trying to prove that you can find anything on the net.
I had a friend that was able to find pictures of random famous people's signatures. Pretty weird.

If the assignment is to find an address of a (living) famous person, it could just be a prequel to actually sending a letter to them for a writing class.

I did that in 6th grade, & sent one to the White House.
(Easiest address to find - minus the zip code which I had to look up.) lol

I don't see the harm in finding an address, but just hearing the request to find an address of someone famous is kinda sketchy without knowing why.

I wonder how we did on Alex's homework assignment? :)

I was guessing too that it was a letter writing assignment, in which case writing in care of FIRST or his other companies would probably get to Dean.

It was a little late for Halloween for Alex to try trick or treating at his house. With the loooooong walk up his driveway, I'd settle for no less than a huge chocolate bar. Two, if I had to row to his island.

I NEED this answered in less then a hour. Wow, teachers are getting tough! An assignment due in less than an hour.
Couldn't be Alex sat on this for a while before completing?

<address removed>

Before anyone jumps on me, realize this is common knowledge. It's on many of his patent filings, and can be found with a quick google search.

I think the point is, why did he wait so late to finish/start his homework assignment?

Well, the point of the thread was stated in the initial post. It could probably have been clarified a bit in order to help the OP avoid so many suggestions and opinions regarding the post made, seemingly in haste and last minute.

Which reminds me that we are approaching that time of year when many new members of CD will join. It is always helpful to read the FAQ and rules pertaining to CD and there are also some threads that have been created to make helpful suggestions to these new members. This (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50532) is one of them.

I would also encourage veteran members and members who aren't quite as new to the CD community to exercise patience and offer guidance rather than criticism and judgment. Many of the new posters are new members to FIRST and to their teams. Great opportunities abound for mentoring and role modeling in all of these areas to help them as they experience the 2009 season and have fun doing so.

Sorry if my post wasn't worded so well.

My post was in reply to Tom Line's post. He said:
Before anyone jumps on meI was trying to say that most of the people who were "jumping" on the OP was because of the time frame he needed the answer. So Tom probably wouldn't get "jumped on" because he gave the address.

I hope that makes sense....

EDIT: I do agree that generally the tone of the replies, including mine, could have been better...

Addresses are personal things.
The information IS public on patent filings with a little research, but posting someone's personal address on ChiefDelphi without their permission is just not right. I wouldn't want anyone to post mine, and I'm not even important!

It could have been found quickly with a little research- probably in under an hour, considering the CD community had already pointed him in the right direction.

Maybe this is just me, but I feel that re-posting his address without his consent is inappropriate.
