View Full Version : 2009 Colorado Regional
Who else is going?
Looking forward to seeing you guys there...
Team 1777 from Overland Park Kansas will be there. We went to the Colorado regional in 2006 before they had the KC regional. This year we are going to the greater KC Regional and Colorado.

Team 159 Alpine Robotics from Fort Collins will be there. It is our only regional. I also found this list (https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index.lasso?page=teamlist&menu=false&event=CO&year=2009&event_type=FRC) under events on the US FIRST Website, along with the other events. We were a little surprised to see some of the teams listed, and we think this will be a very interesting year. It looks like the Pink Team will be visiting Denver.
Kevin
The PINK team can't wait to come to Denver. We were there several years ago, met up with one of the local teams and climbed a mountain/hill and had a snowball fight. Last time there, the Floridians used the tops of rubber maid containers for makeshift snowboards outside the arena! We're all hoping for some snow once again, to see the teams we met last time, meet some new teams and, of course, have a great competition.

Just as a note to you guy's, Don't expect snow. It's been unreasonably dry here. It's only snowed about 7 times this entire year... But colorado might prove me wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

Also! I think at least 4 teams are staying at the same hotel as us! I know PINK, 207, 1515, and us are in the same hotel. If anyone else is there, we totally should hang out thursday night or wednesday if you all will be there. Would be sweet! =)

Team 1339 from Denver will be there!
We're hoping to actually be somewhat of a factor this year, rather than having something major break every round like last year.
See you all there, only 6 days!

We're pretty excited, coming from a desert in California.
We all packed some pretty warm clothes, and todays weather was pretty nice (disappointing for us)! It's nice to be in Denver though, today we rocked out Dave and Busters, and tomorrow we're going on a Mint Tour, and then some of us are going to a hockey game or another tour...
Then thursday the fun begins!

The current prediction is that 1-2 ft of snow in denver on thursday & friday. This system is going to the spot that makes it so that the front range get's a blizzard.(low over amarillo + upslope winds = Blizzard)
And yes, I gladfuly eat my words from earlier.

how many teams DIDN'T go because of the snow?
Our team meet up early in the morning on spring break with just a small ammount of snow on the ground. we were all thinking that we were going since the roads were not bad. by the time the bus arrived, there was several inches and we decided not to go... :(
have no worries, team 1245 plans to be there tomorrow! ;)

thank you for saying this.
Snow is great, but only at the right times.... This is not one of those times.....
but hey, you know your in colorado when the majority of the snow come during spring break, and not in winter... Can't say this is weird.

This is what the FIRST site has said:
"To ensure the safety of our teams, mentors, volunteers, and Denver University staff and contractors, FIRST will delay the Colorado Regional event until weather conditions improve. It is our intention to continue with the competition under a new schedule which will be posted here early tomorrow morning (Friday, March 27)."
If i am reading this correctly the regional will be postponed untill the weather clears up.
I guess this could turn out to be a very interesting regional if the teams end up having not time to practice on the field.

Well good luck getting to compete this year teams. 1986 isn't attending, but a sister school, 1987, is and we have been communicating back and forth.
Anyway, apparently the governor has issued a disaster declaration, activating the National Guard. Flight canceled, schools closed, and highways shut down. Have fun staying in your hotel rooms! Maybe this will give you guys a chance to do some swimming if you have an indoor pool lol.

Congratulations to our San Diego partners Team 1332 and our old friends from the Philly 06 regional Team 399.
Best wishes to both of you in Atlanta!
Glad to see someone remembers! I was talking to a few of your members in San Diego, and it seems I couldn't find any seniors - or something. Philly was I think my -favorite- regional, no joke. It was awesome, even though we lost due to a broken banebots gearbox =( that sucked! But I loved the energy, and if you can remember, we're a pretty energetic team =)
And Barry, we'll be hosting a RoboProm now that we qualified.. More details will be posted soon..ish! =)
Oh! One more thing. HUGE congrats to team 2996 considering you guys had what, 8 trophies sitting on your table at the end of the day? it was a regional to remember! your team is awesome. Compliments to your student coach, I really like him. I'm not sure I ever got to compliment him after we were done, but... yeah. Your drive team was great to work with! =p Your team will go far, I can't wait to see you guys in a few years. Keep up the good work.

Thanks a lot for the comment! We were really happy about our performance and particularly our alliance. BIG thanks to our alliance partners 1332 and 2996, we couldn't have done it without you. The communication between the coaches throughout the matches was amazing and we were definitely in-sync.
As for Roboprom... it is definitely in the works and we should have a post up in a week or so regarding tickets.
On behalf of all of the organizers and volunteers of the 2009 Colorado Regional, I want to thank all of the teams that attended our Regional. We were all impressed with how well the teams dealt with the weather and scheduling issues. There was an abundance of gracious professionalism throughout the Regional and we had a great competition! Thanks again and we hope to see you again next year. Let's have fewer snow wishes next year though ;)

I'll pass on the message to our coach.
But HUGE thanks to Team 399 and Team 1332. We couldn't have won if we weren't chosen in the alliance, and considering our bad luck and low standing at the end of the qualifying rounds, I didn't think we would be chosen. But we ended up being chosen by the #1 seeded alliance! We could not have done it without you! You made our rookie year that much more amazing!
Hey, thanks Bob and Brad! It was a really great experience being there, and, in my opinion, possibly the best way to start off a rookie year :). It was AMAZING competing with 399 and 1332. Both were excellent teams, and it was an honor competing with you. My only complaints about the entire experience are that I'm STILL subconsciously afraid of meeting new people and that I somehow managed to get sick just in time for Thursday.
Oh, quick question. What in the world is this RoboProm I keep hearing about?
EDIT: Interesting tidbit I just remembered about the snow this last weekend. My dad's on El Paso county search and rescue, and early Thursday morning, EPCSAR sent out an email saying that if you were going into Denver that day, don't plan on coming back out that day. And it would seem they were quite right.
Congratulations to the BroncoBots on there winning of the Chairmans's award and to Kevin for the Woodie Flowers Award.

Dawn,
I just want to say what an outstanding job the organizers and volunteers did during a somewhat rough start on the first day. It was a little white out there. The regional was very well done and our team had a great time. Very few delays and we all managed to get quite a few matches in during our shortened time. Derek and the field crew did a great job, I was really please not to have so many problems that plagued other regionals. Thank you all for the "warm" welcome. IT was great!
