Any one care to guess what we could be getting in the 10x10x10 KOP box that weighs 30lbs?

sounds like the batteries, 2 of them in the box.

MK ES 17-12

Weight 13.82lb
Length 7.13 in
Width 2.99 in
Height 6.57 in

With packaging, it sounds about right.

not 10X10X10.
batteries would be 10X10X7, and even that would be a lot of space unused.
My guess is game piece/s.

Traditionally there is a thick card board divider between the batteries and nothing said it was exactly 10x10x10.

well...in that case it sounds right.... when i think about it 30 lbs of game pieces is way too much.

...nah, just kidding. They only weigh at most 16 lbs. I bet that box contains the batteries.

The true question is what are the two small boxes @ 5lb. I believe these are the game pieces. If so then we know that the pieces probably have more then one piece that we have to object with.

2 plastic totes: (27" x 17" x 12" each) 34 lbs each
1 Long box (6" x 6" x 36") 22 lbs
1 Square box (10 x 10 x 10) 30 lbs
1 Control System Box (24 1/4" x 15 1/2" x 12") 26 lbs (if not received early)
2 small boxes less than 5lbs. each

The conspiracy theorist in me finds it strange they don't list units for the 10 x 10 x 10 box as opposed to all the other box/bin sizes listed. ;)

So, is it 10 Millimeters? Centimeters? Inches? Feet?!?!? :ahh:
What could it be??

Well I'm pretty sure we can rule out feet, meters or yards.
If it were that big, teams would have to bring a vehicle capable of carrying a 10x10x10 foot box...
That only ways 30 lbs... so unless teams are required to bring a semi-truck... I am pretty sure its inches... :p

I however am excited about the 5 lbs boxes.
If they contain the game pieces then we have a basic idea of the size of object we will be working with.
So close and yet still so far! :(

OK, so what has a density of 0.48 ounces per cubic inch? Or, in metric units, 0.83 grams per cubic centimeter? That is lighter than water.

Is ice lighter than water? :yikes:

I would say the 6"x6"x36" @ 22lbs box would be raw material. Maybe some metals, plastics and wood.

The 10x10x10 @ 30lbs box, I would venture to guess to be a kitbot or battery box.

The long box has traditionally been the framing box. The 10x10x10 at 30 LBs. sounds like the batteries to me. Each of those batteries weighs close to 14 lbs each if I remember correctly. 5 days and counting.. then my life becomes nonexistant for 6 weeks!!

AdamHeard
29-12-2008, 22:07
I'd guess batteries as well.

Taking into account there must be packing material on whatever it is, I can't really think of anything else that dense.

And if it's the gamepieces, even deflated if that's the case, god help us....

10 pin bowling balls are 16 lbs max, and 8.5" in diameter, so two can't fit in 10" cube with packaging I imagine.

While looking that up, I did see 5 pin balls, which are apparently 4.75"-5" in diamter, and 3.25-3.625 lbs. Very interesting....

It's not anything to do with bowling balls. Or balls of any sort for that matter. Balls in any form only occur in a game every other year (don't believe me? Look it up i'm right). ex: 2008's track balls, 2006's nerf balls, 2004's kickballs, 2002's soccer balls, 2000's plastic balls, 1998's rubber balls, 1996's rubber balls, 1994's soccer balls, 1992's tennis balls, and i couldn't find 1990's game. But i don't know i may be wrong.

It's hilarious to watch this conversation about a box which probably has a 95% chance of being robot batteries turn into all kinds of bowling ball conspiracies.

There was no game in 1990. While FIRST (actually US FIRST) was founded in 1989, the 1992 game "Maize Craze" was the first competition.

Also, there were balls in the 1993, 1995, and 2001 games too.

Maybe it's a mandatory burden each robot must bear? Dave, are you there?

A 1000 cubic inch, 30 pound burden might make a very interesting design constraint. :] Especially if it had to be used on the robot without any modification, exactly as received in the KoP.

I think the 10x10x10 box must be in millimeters. It contains a small amount of Governmentium, the densest material known to man. It is also the most useless material known to man. Being useless, its presence on your robot is required.

Usually, yes; however, aren't the dimensions for the totes a little smaller than in the past? (I don't have a tote handy, but 12" seems a tad short.) If so, maybe they had to pack the batteries independently.

Tom I
02-01-2009, 15:50
I'm pretty much 99% sure the 10^3 box is batteries... Yes last year the batteries were in the totes. (Course, they were inside a cardboard box as well, which was about the dimensions of 10x10x10... hmmm)

But look at it this way for proof... the batteries weigh about 14 lbs a piece... lets say they ARE in the totes, and the other box is something else... so we have 28 lbs of batteries in a 34 lb tote... does that mean there’s only 6 lbs of stuff left in the entire tote? I would tend to think/hope not!! So I would say the batteries are in the other box.

Course, I look at it as, if the batteries WERE in the totes last year but aren't now, what took their place? Yay for more toys!!! haha!

And yes... It will blend!

actuallty after they remove the acid(or metal core) they do blend them, and then melt them
