does anyone on here think that we would be able to get with the people that make the anti-drug commercials and possibly get FIRST to be on an anti-drug commercial. i just thought of this and was curious if it would even be possible.

In my opinon FIRST should be promoted for what it actually does, which is promoting science and technology through building cool robots. Although FIRST may keep some kids off drugs, I don't think there is sufficient statistical proof measuring students' involvement in FIRST correlating with a decrease in first time, or even continued drug use.

Anti-drug commercials work just fine off anecdotes.

Considering:
-the diversity of the FIRST community
-a primary goal of promoting science and engineering skills and interest
-also goals of building self-confidence, leadership, and life skills

You weren't very clear what you were referring to with an "anti-drug" commercial. Could you be a little more specific?

If you were referring to the politics of the war on drugs, personally, I do not think it is prudent for FIRST to take political stands outside of science and engineering.

If you were concerned with potential harmful effects of illegal and non-regulated drugs on the human body, I do not think it is prudent for FIRST to give medical advice without consultation.

Irresponsible use of mind-altering substances can have horrible impacts on science and engineering. I'm certain the FIRST community would never suggest a drunk wielding power tools among high-school students as anything other than a horrible violation of G<42>. However, if this community is going to start extending ideologies outside of the program that FIRST has designed, I think we need to have a substantial discussion on the subject.

i was thinking like how there is those commercials where its like sports are my anti-drug. or friends are my anti-drug. that type of thing. not like actually saying that FIRST is all about that.
