Since I just posted this:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=71477
I figure it's a good time for the yearly reminder. ;)

Thursday, January 22, 2009 is national “Thank Your Mentor Day.”

This is a wonderful opportunity for teams to give their mentors special thanks and to publicize the work their mentors do.
Remember your technical mentors such as the engineers and machinists, and your non-engineering mentors, such as your teachers, parents, college students and other adults who help your team. Tell your community how important your mentors are to your team.

There are over 53,000 mentors involved in FIRST this year.
We have a lot to be thankful for.

Some ideas:
• contact your local newspaper for a story about your mentors and your team
• contact your local TV station for a story about your mentors and your team
• PA announcements at your school.
• post your thanks on www.whomentoredyou.org
• have an open house
• write a thank you note

as a mentor all i ask for is for someone to keep me updated on stuff i may have missed, keep the tools clean/orginized and maybe a cupcake on Mentors Day.

i will be getting my mentor something since this year is his 10th year, which makes it 9 for me!!! :yikes:

since i know my kids have a hard time being on Cheif Delphi, i know they wont read this and i wont get my cupcake!!!

Every mentor deserves a cupcake! (Or a Krispy Kreme if we're talking about Dave.)

January is National Mentoring Month.
Many states and local areas have targeted and free events for organizations with mentoring. I just distributed an announcement to the teams in Maryland about free admission to a museum in Baltimore. You could ask one of your NEM's or students to google for your state.

Michael, my post above was taken from a flyer sent out to all the teams here and student contacts. Feel free to cut and paste it and give to the student leader. ;)

One of the teams here used to have "Tea with the Robot" on Thank-Your-Mentor-Day. Lots of cupcakes there!

Haha one of our mentors LOVES cookies, so chances are there will be TONS of cookies for him in our workshop that day. We've learned that if you make him mad or if you just screwed up in general, you make him cookies. And the question is not what kind of cookies does Mr. Hinde like, it's what did you do to make him mad? Haha:)

haha sorry to get off topic, but Magnolia Bakery has the best cupcakes EVER!!!! I went to the one on the Avenue of America's near the rockefeller center... and they were featured in Reader's Digest's 100 best issue in '07...

the line was coming out the door, and people were waiting in like 32 degree F. weather. I did too, but it was totally worth it... Mmmmm... i wish i live in NYC so i could have those everyday... lol... i <3 MAgnolia Bakery, and its cupcakes...

January is National Mentoring month, and today is Thank Your Mentor Day. The Baxter Bomb Squad would like to thank all FIRST mentors.

Thank you for all of the work you do. Without mentors FIRST teams would not be able to succeed or really even exist.

The students on our team are organizing their first annual Golden Gear Awards to honor the mentors for National Mentoring month. Some of the categories are "Outstanding Dedication", "Best Dance Moves", and "Most Spirited".

Does any other teams have an "awards" night?
