Are any of you Inventors using Vista64 OS?

I know that their support page (clicky (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?id=8410923&siteID=123112)) doesn't list Vista64 as a supported OS, but I was wondering if there's a "workaround".

When I D/L the big file and begin the installer, I get a simple white message pop up stating that it "doesn't support my OS"

I may have found a "crack" on a Autodesk forum where you can edit an MSI file to skip the step that checks for OS ... but I wanted to see if any of you may have a different solution.

thx.

I have been running Inventor 64bit on Vista 64bit for a couple months without problem. I downloaded the 64bit version (the 8.9G version) and it installed without an OS error.

I want to try the 64-bit version, but it's not one of my selectable choices with the FIRSTbase downloader.

The FIRSTbase account only "authorizes" the 32-bit version ... at least that's what it offers as a download selection.

So I wonder if I d/l the 64-bit version on my own, if the FIRSTbase license will work for it ... hmmm ...

On the inventor first download page there is this

64-bit Users/ AutoCAD Mechanical Users: If you are running Vista 64-bit or XP 64-bit or would like access to AutoCAD Mechanical you will need to download this file. Please note, the 64-bit version will not work with the standard 32-bit Vista or XP operating systems. Due to the size of the file (8.67 GB), only Firefox users will be able to download this file. This will not download using Internet Explorer or other browsers. Please use your serial number provided above during installation. Click here to download.

The "here" is a link on the download page, click to download.

I read that note, but when it said AutoCAD Mechanical Users and not Inventor users, I didn't click on it.

Thanks. That's something else to try when I get home from work.

OK. After getting Firefox ('cuz MS-IE can't handle it), I'm currently downloading the 8.7GB 64-bit stuff. By the way, isn't it funny that to go from 32-bit to 64-bit it grows from 3.4 gig to 8.7? It's probably the entire package and not just Inventor ... stay tuned, I'll know in 11 hours and 10 minutes ... [twiddles thumbs]

Hi folks,

Please see the helpful thread in the CAD forum:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71241 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71241)

I recognize 8 Gb is a large file; we'll see if we can break it up in the future.

Thanks for the cross-post ... it's good to know that more folks are sucessfully installing Inventor on a Vista64 system

... here's a copy of what I put over there ...

I'm on a cable modem and I've had a HECK of a time keeping my cable modem healthy during this MASSIVE download.

During the day, I get around 200 KB/sec, but at night it grows to 1 MB/sec. Problem is, my cable modem would die. I'd monitor my network traffic and when it fell to zero, I'd power-cycle my cable modem and it'd start back up.

If it stayed at zero for too long, it'd cancel the download, so I'd have to keep an eye on it. After 3 failed attempts (with 2 of them reaching over 75% complete), it finally successfully completed last night!

Now I'm extracting it. ... and after 95% I got a "path too long" error for one of the files ... I had to skip it.

It's good to hear that some of you have had smooth installations after what has been (for me at least) a very time consuming download/extraction process.

I have an Alienware m17x running 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate. I run inventor 2008 with no issues. I haven't installed 09 yet.

I've had a few successful starts of the inventor program, and was even able to check out a handfull of the examples. ... but now, every time I try and start it, I get an error message saying that it stopped responding and WinVista gives me a chance to "send an error report"

I used the uninstaller's repair option, I un-installed and re-installed ... I installed SP1 ... still the same response. It won't even start up.

I'm worried that my download wasn't perfect and I'll have to get it again.

I'm also worried that I didn't use the "Run as Administrator" option enough. For my next attempt, next week, I'll right click each "setup.exe" and Run as Admin.

I'm gonna' have to give up for a week while I'm on work travel. I doubt that the Free WiFi at the Embassy Suites will allow me to d/l an 8.7 GB file.

Bummer. I was hoping to work on the modelling tutorials while I was on work travel this week. Oh well ... I'll focus on my Labview skillz.
