Hey guys were can i buy replacement accelerometers/ gyros?

Also should the analog breakout chip thinggy were the accelerometers plug in be hot after use?
Today i burned my self on it, same with the accelerometer...

Any ideas?

Hmmm Hot... well SOME electronics run hot.... but I don't think Accelerometers or gyros should ever run hot. If you're coming directly out of the analog breakout from the NI9201 and using a pwm connector, you can only get 5V so that shouldn't heat up.
If the accelerometer has a short in it, that COULD cause your analog breakout to get hot. I usually like to see sparks shooting .. that always helps pinpoint the problem.

yea :P but umm those boards at sparkfun are they FRC legal? or can i just get any boards, possibly ones from digikey...?

8.3.8 of The Robot IMPLIES that you can use any other sensor... the difference is that you have to include them in your costs while the FRC provided ones are no cost to your robot.


" The 2009 Kit Of Parts includes a new control system that has been designed to provide advanced capabilities for the ROBOTS. The system has been designed around an open architecture that will allow teams to easily develop custom software to control the ROBOT and add electronics and custom circuits to expand the functionality of the ROBOT. Custom circuits may be used to indirectly affect the robot outputs by providing enhanced sensor feedback to the Mobile Device Controller to allow it to more effectively control the ROBOT."

I think if you look under custom circuits you'll find some reference to this... still, I'll look again, but I believe that as long as it's not a bolt on solution.. like a processor based device designed to solve all traction problems with rover wheels... ( let me know if you find one of these...) Then it's a sensor you're integrating to the cRIO under the additional materials and sensors under custom circuits.

They should not be getting that hot. Perhaps you have miswired the connection to the accelerometer board and it's drawing too much current. It's worth double-checking the polarity of the power supplied to the analog breakout as well.

ok our mentor is now helping me so hopefully we figure it out...

Probably will end up ordering some stuff including a better soldering stand n gun from digi key and maybe some ultrasonics and possibly a replacement accelerometor if we burned it out.
