Is that severed hand legal? I think it's a COTS assembly from previous years.

I'm also confused - I see three possible orbit-ball-pick-up methods there.

Looks spiffy!

What about a team 47 teaser? jk

Seriously though, looks awesome. Kind of wonder what's with the anonymity though. Oh well, good job whoever you are.

Hmm. Reminds of the 1126 robot from 2006. I can't wait to learn who this is.

This looks strikingly similar (albeit, upgraded a bit) to the Team 236 'bot from 2002:

I'll throw my guess in the hat here, & say it's Team 236.

This looks really familiar to me.

Well, it can't be a RAGE bot since it's not made out of wood, :p so maybe it's a 195 or 999 bot Jeff? I know you have inside info with them nowadays. ;)

I wish I had inside info from them. Now that you mention it, I should do some grilling to try and get info.

Yeah, but it probably isn't a 330 machine. They don't build in living rooms, not last I checked.

O_o

Living room?? I wish my living room had what looked to be a lathe in it. (right under the hand with the wedding ring on it - looks like the dials from a lathe & a shield over it above that - maybe a CNC lathe with a splash window for the cleaning fluid??).
IMHO, that is too industrial looking to be a living room.

Anyways, all we have to do is find what teams have people who work in room with a tile ceiling, & who have married team members on them...
Shouldn't be too hard.

Or whatever has that window in the back left. All I really know is, 330 hasn't built in that type of shop for years if ever. The one place I can think of that would fit would be a sponsor's shop, but the lathes there aren't by the windows.

I am thinking a school shop setting due to the E-stop circuit in the background on the right side of the picture. Makes it even easier to find the proper team. :P

I am puzzled what difference does it make if we know what team it is if we know what the robot looks like?

I mean unless it is some world class team giving away there world class design, i have a feeling we aren't seeing one of the "classical" powerhouse teams for example 111, but it looks like it may have the makings to be a pretty good bot.

This teaser is probably the best picture of there robot with giving the least amount of information on their strategy. An Enigma, i like that

Not saying it was a 330 robot, and I wouldn't expect 330 using a "bolt together" frame, sheet metal spiral, or cantilevered "west coast drive" set up...

I am not trying to insult the "anonymous teaser" robot, bolt together frames work fine, and i LOVE the "west coast drive" set up, but it just doesn't seem 330 to me.
(and ya, the shop doesn't look like a supermarket... lol)

I agree. This is the basic set-up of our build site (WHS) & same cinder block walls & boring colored paint job going by the clues in the background.
But it's not ours. lol

To Enigma's Puzzle: It doesn't matter who the team is, this is true, but I believe as far as teasers go, this is the first anonymous one that has been posted by Brandon here on CD on behalf of a team, so questions risen from that fact itself, are in fact the enigmas. ;)

Who are they?
Why would they not post it themselves?

Judging by clues from the picture itself, we can all tell who's bot it looks like, but maybe it's none of those teams that have been mentioned at all.
I'm looking forward to the follow up post that says who it is, unless the team is just going to show up at a regional event, & see who identifies them from the picture.

I think of this picture, in a way, no more helpful to anyone than a Game Hint by the GDC, except this picture actually gives others an idea of what types of 'bots to expect to see at competitions, so in that regard it is 10x more helpful than a Game Hint. :p

I just noticed an interesting little thing.
A little period at the end of the description of the uploaded picture post by Brandon.

Is this an indication that it was given to Brandon by the most (in)famous person here who uses a period at the end of their posts??
Mr. Dave Lavery, is this an anonymous teaser from Team 116? :p

Dave Scheck
06-02-2009, 16:32
for example 111Nope, not us...our speed holes don't go in until practice day at Midwest :p

We'll reveal in due time.

We could always do like they do on CSI: Zoom into the thumb in the photograph until we get close enough to take a fingerprint, then send it to the FBI fingerprint database and see how many matches we get! :p

Someone has to ask the Question... how are they going to legally attach their bumpers??

I just didn't want the '148' comment to get lost .. so I added some whitespace below, following in the footsteps of Mr. Lavery.

this is the first anonymous one that has been posted by Brandon here on CD on behalf of a team, so questions risen from that fact itself, are in fact the enigmas. Being the first request to post an anonymous teaser, I was hesitant -- mostly because I didn't want to be bombarded by more requests. But if any other teams want to trust me with their teaser, I'll gladly do any others this year. There's only one guideline: show us the whole robot .. not a little tiny piece of it. Send it to me via e-mail and I'll upload it.

This is probably the most brilliant comment I've seen in the thread so far.

Someone has to ask the Question... how are they going to legally attach their bumpers??

So technically Gary beat you to it... but that is a good question. Maybe they have invisibumpers? Are there rules about how your bumpers are allowed to bend and reflect light?

And I wonder why a team would want to remain anonymous, but still share their robot design, other than to confuse us all... unless that was their motive.

The spiral looks like what the inside of our robot looks like, hmm mabye the builders should see this
-They have the exact same chassie that we have too...

1519? One of their kids posted earlier about how to CAD a spiral, and they build in a basement/living room don't they?

Hey all,

I received this message in the mail from the anonymous team:

"Our anonymous teaser is anonymous for the fun of it. We were trying to do something different to avoid getting lost in the teaser mayhem. Instead of posting a teaser of some small part of our robot and have you guess what it was attached to, we posted the whole robot and thought people could have fun guessing our team!

The robot is obviously not competition ready in this picture. There are supports for the bumpers missing…and we may want to add a control system at some point. However, we are not worried about getting these completed since this has been one of our quickest robot builds ever. This unusual extra week of robot test and break time is leaving us with an optimistic outlook on the season, as it should, since at least one of our other robots has played on Einstein.

We also want to remind people that coming into the last week of build, stress starts ramping up when things go wrong, make sure you HAVE FUN!"

Hrmn... who could it be? They seem pretty well known to me :)

(No, it's still not 148.)

This is team 177, the bobcats from South Windsor, CT. They were at Suffield Shakedown yesterday and made it to the finals.
It's a great robot and will be very good this year. But then again, when's the last time 177 wasn't good?
