turning a turntable

we're going to attach a toothed band to the outer rim of the turntable and have a sprocket (and motor) mesh directly with that.

the only problem is how to actually attach the band to the turntable, because the band is taller than the turntable

any ideas/suggestions?

oh and the belt will be permanently attached around half of the turntable to allow for 180° of movement

Depends what your turn table is made from but you could use screws or you could use pop rivets.

If it is wood i would use screws, if it is aluminum i would drill holes and use pop rivets.

what your suggesting is exactly what we did.
We used a 3/8" plate attached to the lazy susan in the KOP, cut a notch on the edge and screwed the ends of the chain on. To keep it from coming off, we used a 1/8" plate on the top and wedged the chain in.
We then used a FP motor with a 25 chain sprocket to run the turret.
