I just posted this question to Q&A, but I wanted to poll the audience from past experience....

Rules say crate footprint MUST have a footprint no greater than 4' x 4'. I know it says no greater than, but that requires that we rip cut the length of the 4' plywood otherwise we'll exceed the dimensions by the thickness of the plywood. Has everyone done this in the past?

The footprint and height restrictions are required by the shipper so the crates can be easily handled and loaded into a shipping trailer. Do not exceed these dimensions with your crate, or the shipper can refuse to take your crate. This could be disastrous to your team on Tuesday. You don't have to make it 4 x 4 - it can be smaller. :)

Beach Cities Robotics' (294's) crate meets the requirement.

The answer came back in Q&A-it has to be under 4x4.

Turned out not to be a big deal; I just had the guy at Lowe's rip cut all the lumber to size for us.
