What is the purpose of the 2 wheels in the rear of the robot on either side of the trailer hitch?

There's a mini 4wd perpendicular drive chassis in there that pops down to go side to side. Driven by 2 banbots. It's like Buzz 175 the last 2 years. very sweet...
