I came across an interesting article that I think has relevance here: Playing to win. (http://www.sirlin.net/articles/playing-to-win-part-1.html) It talks about competition and competitive playing. Even if you don't agree with the article, or don't think it applies to FIRST, I still encourage you to think about it and discuss it. :)
Personally I try my hardest to win on the field (within the rules), and off the field I try to be helpful to people who need help.
