Good morning teams!
The Tigertrons team 222 and the PARC committee sat down and had our first official meeting last night. We have some exciting new plans for PARC this year to make it more than just a competition.
First the business end:
Where: Tunkhannock Area High School
120 West Tioga Street
Tunkhannock, PA 18657
When: May 9, 2009 doors open 7:00AM competition ends 5:00PM
Team limit: 30 teams
Registration (Note this has changed): http://asp.shinraikon.com/parcxii/registration.aspx
Volunteer Registration (This has also changed): http://asp.shinraikon.com/parcxii/Volunteer.aspx
New Cost: $175.00
Please let us know if you have any problems with the registration pages. I will try to keep the team list up to date on here. If you know you definitely are having trouble registering you can send me a PM on here with all the information and I will pass it along.
The registration pages have changed due to a conflict of software between the team's webpage host and the software our webpage team used to redesign our site. The normal PARC registration page will be up some time in the future, but we are unsure exactly when.
Now the fun stuff:
OK we realize that PARC has been lacking in other non-robot activities for teams to have fun at. This year we are changing things up a bit hoping to not only attract more team members, but also people from our community.
List of activities so far:
chicken BBQ with pre-sale tickets will be available once our plans are finalized
Technology fair including local colleges - we are currently building a list of local colleges and technology based businesses for demonstrations and recruiting. If you would like to be involved in a technology booth please shoot me a PM.
free miniature golf - students of the TASD CADD classes are designing and building a miniature golf course that will be on display for everyone to use
We may have some competition related games to be announced.
We are still in the planning stages. If you or your team has any suggestions on what you would like to see at PARC we would like to hear them. Feel free to post any ideas in the thread or send me a PM.
Disclaimer: none of these activities are officially set in stone. I will be sure to keep all teams up to date on any changes.
Finally, I know it's been a long post. I'm personally looking for a list of awards teams would like to see given out. Afterall this competition is about the teams that attend.
We hope to see everyone at the PARC!

I haven't been to PARC in a few years.
Maybe I'll have to make a return in 2009!
Once I know for sure, I'd be glad to volunteer as well if needed.
Team 316, The LuNaTeCs, look forward to participating again in 2009.
Always a great event.
I already volunteered for que.

Thank you very much Ed! I was just getting ready to reply to your registration.
We have been to PARC quite a few times. I have to say I have always liked the invitational because it is a straight forward competition. Personnaly I like just competiting without any distractions but hey thats me. You guys have always done a great job. The only issue that has stopped us from coming at times is the distance.
This year 1071 will make the trip down to PA and compete once again.

YAY Tigertronics! Welcome to our TIGER HOUSE! :)
They're a clever bunch. Check out Fingerlakes quarterfinal 1-1 to see how they and a pair of slick rookies baited and trapped a very good 188 bot and changed a defeat to a stunning victory in the last 20 seconds. They are to be feared.

I'm glad to hear that we impressed some people up at Fingerlakes. I wish I could say the same about our last regional in Annapolis.

I'm going to talk to my advisors in the coming weeks to see if we can make it to PARC as a Team. I'd love to get the bot on the Regolith one more time after Atlanta and Also I need to train next year's Driver.
If my team can't make it, I might make a solo adventure out of it. :D

I finally got to watch that match, and I must say, very good strategy from the Tigertronics. This will be the first time I see them in action. Most likely I'll be reffing PARC so I'll be getting close and personal.;)

To keep everyone informed....The chicken BBQ will be run by the TAHS business club. We're still waiting on prices. We're not settled on how many holes the mini golf course will be. It all depends on if the CAD class students all finish their project. Also new for us will be customizable PARC shirts. We are still trying to collect colleges and businesses for our technology fair. Also the school planetarium will be open with presentation times throughout the day. There's tons of work going into PARC this year. We're hoping to get enough teams to make it worth while. Hope to see you all at the PARC!
A couple of things have caused me to have to change my plans and back out of my obligation to work PARC.
One is it's mothers day weekend and mom lives in Boston. So I will be going to Battlecry instead (and bringing mom gifts from Wegmans) and because I am staying at mom's I won't have to pay for a hotel room which is suddenly very important after a very unfortunate incident last weekend has incurred a large bill for me from Canada with my internet use.
I apologize wholehearted for this.

Speaking of the chicken BBQ stand...everything is finalized. The BBQ includes 1/2 chicken, mac salad, desrt, and drink for $8.
Unfortunately the Tech & College Fair is not going to get done for this year. We had a tough time getting responses from colleges. We will work harder on the tech fair for next year.
The planetarium will be open for 15 minute presentations about the moon.
Students from the CAD class are working on their mini golf course as I type.
PARC is approaching fast please encourage other teams to sign up

Speaking of the chicken BBQ stand...everything is finalized. The BBQ includes 1/2 chicken, mac salad, desert, and drink for $8.Sounds tasty, but half a chicken seems like a lot. How many people is one supposed to feed? (Sorry I'm so concerned with food, just trying to keep my team fed. I do really like robots though!)

Updates.......we will be using the most up to date software first is supplying us. Right now it is FMS lite which is very Lite. We will have a running field, but there will be no real time scoring and we are working on the ranking system and such. With that said we will not be following G14. There will be no penalty for doubling or tripling your opponents' score.
Also since there are only 15 teams we are going to run with the pits inside our gym because there will only ever be 3 robots in the pits at once.
Another thing we were kicking around is a twist on the game.....of randomly placing a supercell on the field before the start of auto mode. The super cell would be there for anyone's taking. Let me know what you all think on this one....this is not final until we get some input from the teams attending.
We start setting up and testing tonight. The CAD room is currently full of cardboard miniature golf pieces.
Thanks to the teams who have registered. We understand this is a tough time of the year. We are looking for suggestions for a better time of year to host PARC. We are almost certain that PARC will not be the Saturday before Mother's Day next year based solely on attendance. Help us out, make suggestions to make PARC better all around.

We like the idea of putting a supercell (or two) on the field. As a matter of fact that is what we are doing at our invitational. I would understand if you do not do this but our team would be in favor of the idea. The only concern is when it gets announced. Being a team that is coming from CT to PA we would not be able to adjust our autonomous for this if the position of the supercell is known. I do not want to sound like a whiner but I just want to make sure everyone can compete on equal grounds.

To all attending PARC. Above I had mentioned we would like to place a supercell on the field before autonomous begins. We have talked this idea over and decided the supercell would be placed in the center of the field. We will have teams vote on this option when they sign in. Teams be prepared to possibly pick up a supercell from the center field in autonomous period. An email will also sent out to team contacts adressing this idea. The field is up and just needs to be wired.

We had great fun at PARC yesterday. Thanks for 222 for running it and congratulations to the winning alliances.

To the teams that missed it- you missed lots of fun. See you next year.

Thanks, 222! 1640 loved PARC XII. We'd also like to thank 222 and 2753 for having us on a great champion alliance! A fun time was had by all. See you next year!
We did enjoy the center-field super cell rule. We certainly recommend it for other off-seasons.
P.S. How many states were represented at PARC this year? (We like to include that information in our media releases/announcements.) Thanks!

I definitely liked the supercell in the middle. Watching teams ram into the center as fast as possible was great. One complaint though: I don't know how the center mark was drawn or who did it, but from the driver stations' point of view, it was definitely closer to the left of the field from the blue alliances' standpoint about half the time. I just think that a lot of the time, the ball wasn't in the center of the field, and was slightly unfair to the team that was further away.
Thanks to Teams 1218 and 145 for being such amazing partners. It was a pleasure working with you.
Congratulations to Teams 222, 2753, and 1640 for "schooling" us in the finals. You definitely deserved to win and it was great playing against you.
Deep appreciation to Scott Howell, Cliff Mock and the entire Tigertrons Crew for putting together another amazing PARC! We have not missed a single PARC since 2001 and you always put on a great show.
You are gracious hosts and fierce competitiors.
Thank you from the entire 341 crew!

I do believe that after the drivers meeting, the ruling was established and the mark was placed approximately in the center of the field. We apologize for the inconvenience for it was six inches off. Although not perfect, it made the matches that much more interesting. Thanks to all who made it out we hope to see you next year, bigger and better!
