I was impressed with the event last year when I attended for the first time. I suppose that is why our team returns to the event year after year. Gorgeous school too by the way. Glad to see so many local teams going... as big as some regionals this year.

Hey guys,
This year's game seems to be very hard to maintain with the new control system and the 120 moon rocks flying everywhere. So we were wondering if there is anyone who has scored before or volunteered with the field that would help us out by coming over to Monty. The benefits of volunteering, you HAVE FUN, and you get a FREE Polo (Thanks to Van Heusen).
http://montymadness.org/Contact%20Us.html - Just fill out the form, and be there at Monty Madness.
Thanks,

Sara, graduation is overrated :p lol. I'm graduating the 13th and I know Rutgers has things around the same time as RVCC lol. That's how I kept track of what my brother was doing :p lol
looks like 694 is gonna be able to make the trip this year. its going to be our first ever off season event and it looks like its going to be a good one.

I'll talk to my mentors this week to see if we can make the adventure up there. I'd love to get the bot back on the Regolith one more time before I graduate.
Then again, I'll be there anyway - I haven't missed a Monty yet.

your site says that all 42 slots are filled though
Monty Madness is filled, you are correct. I will be posting information about the waitlisting as soon as I get it.
We still could use volunteers, especially those who helped run the field during this year's game. Please sign up: http://montymadness.org/Contact%20Us.html
As far as the FTC game is considered, here's what I got from Vincent Frascella:
Yes, we will be playing the Face-Off Game (as defined by FIRST) during the early part of the day to comprise the Qualification Rounds. There will also be a number of small “Skills Competition” mini-fields at which the teams can check and practice their skills. Yes, once again, some of the skills that are practiced in the morning will be needed to compete well in the secret “Extreme Version” of “Face-Off” that we will reveal just prior to lunch. FTC teams can strategize over lunch …then they will need to play the Extreme Game with their selected Alliance partners during the Elimination Rounds.
Hope that this information helps.

Rising Star Award

Most Gracious Team
Judge's Award
Woodie Flowers Jr. Award
Cougar Robotics Volunteer of the Year
On that note, we're actually trying to spice things up and are looking into introducing some more awards that would get the teams excited. If anyone has suggestions feel free to PM me.
Our team is putting a fresh crew out on the field for Monty, maybe even a couple of drivers.

How about a fan/spectator favorite? Each team votes for the "koolest" robot (just cannot be their own). You can have each team vote, have spectators vote, volunteers, just one of those or any combination.

TEAM UPDATES
April 23, 2009
DON’T FORGET WE’RE STARTING EARLY! Remember we told you that we are starting the competition matches early? Well we are - with our FRC participants needing to be ready by 8:15AM! Unfortunately, if you’re not ready – we can’t hold up everyone else and we’ll be playing the match without you. It’s not fair for us to hold everyone up for late teams. So here are two things to keep in mind: don’t get lost, and drop off your robot early.
Don’t Get Lost Getting to the Montgomery Township High School! So one thing we’ve found is that people have gotten lost coming to the Montgomery Township High School in Skillman, NJ. One reason is that our high school is only three years old, and some maps are not yet updated!
Google and Mapquest appear to be updated and appropriately bring you to our address when you use our correct address as destination: 1016 Route 601; Skillman, NJ 08558-1799. However, some GPS units are not quite updated and don’t seem to know where we are. So here’s another way, enter our longitude and lattitude into your GPS:
• N 40 degrees 25.116’
• W 74 degrees 42.316’
Drop Off Your Robot EarlyIf you are close enough to the Montgomery Township High School, you should consider dropping off your robot on Friday, May 15th, the day before the event. This will reduce your stress and number of things you need to do Saturday morning. You must let us know by sending us an email at registration@montymadness.org or call us at (908) 533-4765with a good estimate as to your time of arrival. Do not show up without alerting us please! You may drop off your robot and pit items between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM and team members must be accompanied by an adult. We will be doing practice matches on Friday evening from 7PM to 9PM. A map showing the robot unloading location is found on page 2 of this update.
FIRST TECH CHALLENGE RETURNS TO MONTY MADNESS Once again this year. FTC teams will hold a set of matches at Monty Madness. Teams will compete this year’s Face-off FTC Game, along with an Extreme Version of Face-off later in the day. FTC will be located this year right outside the FRC pits. If you know an FTC team that is interested in participating, have them email Vince Frascella at vincent.frascella@montymadness.org. Teams slots are limited.
DEDICATIONS IN OUR EVENT PROGRAM
In our event program, we will have pages where parents and students may make dedications (e.g. congratulations grads, thank you to the robotics program, etc). You may decide to dedicate from one to three lines text. If you, team parents, or team members would be interested, go to the form at http://montymadness.org/downloads/Dedications_09.pdf. If organizations wish to advertise within our Event Program, we offer very inexpensive options. Go to http://montymadness.org/downloads/ProgramAds_09.pdf for more information.

COLLEGE FAIR AT MONTY MADNESS We will be presenting our 2nd Annual College Fair from 10AM to 2:00PM this year. If you know of colleges that might be interested in participating, please ask them to visit our website or email us at collegefair@montymadness.org
MONTY MADNESS VOLUNTEERS We're still looking for volunteers for Monty Madness. We have employed well over 100 volunteers in each of our prior years to run the event and we're still looking to fill our ranks for May 16, 2009. Anyone interested in volunteering, please let them know to fill out our volunteer form at our website or by emailing us at volunteers@montymadness.org. We do not accept drop-in volunteers on the day of the event.
AWARDS AT MONTY MADNESS Each year, Monty Madness celebrates awards to its participants. Apart from the Champions and Finalists awards, there are five other honors regularly awarded. We may have additional awards on May 16th, but these are
our core list:
• Rising Star - Awarded to newer teams that show unusual promise
• Spirit – Awarded to the team that shows event day spirit
• Most Gracious – Awarded to the team that regularly displays FIRST
values
• Judge’s Award – Special award completely at the judges’ discretion
• Woody Flowers Jr – Awarded to an individual or group of individuals
who inspire students and who communicates effectively
(we will def. have more awards then this)
Please note that all awards are determined by our independent judges, without review or influence of the organizers of Monty Madness.
NOMINATIONS FOR WOODY FLOWERS “JR” Student team members are encouraged to submit nominations for the Monty Madness 2009 Woody Flowers “Jr” award. Send your nominations with brief narrative, no longer than two paragraphs, to awards@montymadness.org. These nominations will be reviewed by our independent judging staff

Will Monty Madness be allowing live video feedback from the robot to the driver's station during matches this year (a larger back channel)?
Can't wait, good luck to everyone!
If its allowed in the FIRST rule book then we will allow it at MONTY, we are going by the FIRST rules.

No. There is no change to rules (as stated above) or the hardware/software running the field at the event

Wont be there due to my brother's graduation but thought I'd waste some time having fun making some of my own predictions. It should be a phenomenal event. I know my team is very pumped to be attending this year.
Disclaimer: These predictions are my own that I've made out of my own boredom. :P
1) 2753 1923 136
2) 103 25 2590
3) 224 11 1089
4) 1807 223 1370
5) 341 56 834
6) 102 694 271
7) 1626 1403 1640
8) 293 75 1279
1/8. 2/7. 6/3. 4/5. 4/2. 1/6. 1/4
It's not that I don't have hope for my own team. I surely do but I personally don't believe that should be reflected in predictions.

just a note it wouldn't be 6 vs 1 and 4 v 2. it would be 1 vs 4 and then 2 vs 6

Oh Thank you! I wasn't sure so I just kind of guessed. My mistake. So in that case I would replace it with 1/4 6/2 1/6
Sorry about that.

So will picking within the top 8 be allowed? I know in previous years Monty has had different rulings on this.

I didn't quote the original post because I need to use italics. Alliance selection is over, here's the comparison. I hope I got it right!
Bold = right alliance, right place
Underlines = right alliance, wrong place
Italics = in the eliminations
1) 2753 1923 136
2) 103 25 2590
3) 224 11 1089
4) 1807 223 1370
5) 341 56 834
6) 102 694 271 (the alliance is right, but 694 and 102 are switched and it's actually the 5th alliance)
7) 1626 1403 1640
8) 293 75 1279
Still nice work on pegging 102/694/271, though.

Team 75 had so much fun this year it was an amazing event. 1403 you put on one of the best off season events around.
223, and 293 you were one of the best alliance partners that I ever had the privilege to work with. It was a allot of fun playing with you.
223 your coach is one of the most clear thinking coaches i have had the opportunity compete with. The way you talk to other teams is a perfect example of GP.

Our team had an awesome time at Monty this year!
First off, thanks to teams 1403 and 75, and all of the volunteers for putting on the event. One of our students called it the "NJ Regional of the off-season."
Next, thank you to Dave Blackburr (of Team 75) for helping us re-image our cRio after our robot mysteriously fell victim to an unfortunate FPGA Checksum error. Without your assistance our robot would have been lifeless for remainder of the day. We truly appreciate it.
Third, thanks to Team 1279 for picking us and to Team 1302 for joining our alliance. Our scout could not believe that you had lasted so long in the draft! The cooperation, strategy, and teamwork of this alliance was amazing, and we look forward to working you again in the future. Also, kudos to 1279's Payload Specialist - you were unbelievable.
To teams 2753 and 1923 - We knew that playing against you in the finals for the second time this year was going to be even more challenging than before. The match scores of 86-101, 86-78, and 92-101 proved just how talented both of our alliances truly were.
DanDon posted the correct alliances - the eliminations results were:
1) 2753 - 1923 - 219
2) 56 - 103 - 1403
3) 1279 - 25 - 1302
4) 223 - 75 - 293
5) 694 - 102 - 271
6) 1370 - 11 - 1089
7) 834 - 1807 -341
8) 896 - 2590 - 1366
1 beats 8
7 beats 2
3 beats 6
4 beats 5
1 over 4
3 over 7
3 over 1 in three close matches.
See you at Bridgewater-Raritan Battle Royale (BR^2)!

Team 223 would like to thank Team 75 and Team 293 for a thrilling time in the elimination rounds of Monty Madness.
Also a big thanks to Team 224 for all of your help and tools as always, and to Teams 56 and 11 for being an extended part of our team at a wonderful event.

Great job 1403. i was really excited (you know how there was the random kid that was constantly screaming about every alliance when the music stopped...that was me :)) and you, once again, threw an awesome event. I never really realized i liked Lunacy until...now. :) some really awesome HP's (oops...payload specialists).
There were some great people that made it possible too, and it was well worth everyone's work on that. It was EPIC. :)
Thank you to our wonderful alliance partners -- you made us so excited to be part of the elimination tournament.
Good job, Wayne Penn and Mr. Gregory (aka Egg[-ory]) (my team's coach :)) for MC-ing and game announcing (respectively)
I had fun. Can't wait till next year. :)

Everyone did an awesome job today... it was even more epic to watch 25's new challenger 2753 go at it in the finals =). I suddenly notice that WHEREVER 25 is 2753 will not be too far behind =).
Congrads. to all who participated and volunteered =). You all were awesome

So another successful Monty Madness in the books. Even with control system / field system communication issues, they managed to get everything going. I ended up doing my first lunacy game announcing at this event -- sorry I talk too darn much.
Had a lot of fun and I still managed to keep some semblance of a voice. I was sucking on halls for most of the day though, so I guess that helped.
Now I get to sleep for like 2 days. Hope to see you all next year!!!

As a ref today I want to say thank you to everyone for being such good sports! You all acted with an amazing amount of GP through all the hassle with the field, and whenever you were dealt the short stick.
Congratulations to 1279, 25, and 1302, and of course everyone else that competed!
Congrats to Ed for winning the WFA Jr. award, you certainly deserve it!
And yes, Gregory, you DO talk to much. XD
I'm so glad that I got to go to Monty Madness again. It's such an amazing event!
No matter what happens, you can't not have fun while your there (double negative); as anyone on 1089 would tell you. Between driving and coaching, DRP-ing and cheering for other teams, there wasn't a dull moment the whole day.
It's just an all-around great experience and all the effort the members of 1403 and the various other voulnteers have put in is 100% worth it. I'm already excited for next year!

Hehe we had a fun time too man, the new drivers are getting into their grove. We go to train, not to win.
A small plus side for me was having 1089 on our alliance with my good friend Dustin coaching. Our alliance knew going into eliminations who we were choosing. Going into Monty we knew we would be choosing either 1089 or 1403 for our alliance. I wish we had time to play more matches so the top 8 would have been reflected better. Are awards posted anywhere?

This was team 694's first ever offseason event, and we had a GREAT time. 1403, you ran an amazing event. I really loved the atmosphere, nobody was stressed out and it was fun to compete without worrying about qualifying for anything. I think my favorite part must have been coaching team 2753 for a match. It's a great opportunity to coach a team that was on Einstein. Also congratulations to teams 1279,25 and 1302 for a hard fought win. Hopefully team 694 will be back next year.

Congratulations to Team 1279, 25, and 1302, and of course everyone else that competed!!!!!
i was girl who was taking care of FAN FAVORITE board with stamp all over my body and smily face on my forehead :) haha
once again yay to all the volunteers, mentors, team members, everyone!!!
On behalf of Team 341, I just wanted to say thanks to Tim Leicht, Team 1403, and the many teams and volunteers that made this event such a success.
Congratulations to the Champs 1279, 25, and 1302. You truly performed as a team and made it impossible to key on one or two robots.
We also wanted to thank our partners teams 834 and 1807. We made a great run in the playoffs and worked so well together.
We had a great time at our first ever Monty Madness and hope to see everyone at Ramp Riot this fall.
Best of luck to everyone in the off-season.

Thanks very much to 1403 and all the folks at Montgomery Township High School. You once again made it a fun and exciting event.
Thanks to the announcers, refs, and field crew, who got us through the minor glitches with the new wireless, with quick work and tireless good humor.
Thanks to our alliance partners, 25 and 1302, without whom we couldn't have done it; you played awesomely and had our backs when we needed it.
And thanks to every other team. We got everything, from smiles and words of encouragement, to tool loans and parts, everywhere we turned. The gracious professionalism displayed was a tribute to yourselves and your schools.
Can't wait for next year! :)

Awesome event, thank you 1403 and 75 for putting it on once again, light shows and all. :D Also, thank you to all the volunteers that made the event move along smoothly.
Also, congrats to 1279, 25, and 1302. Awesome alliance right there, 1279 human player was killer (2 half court supercells! (?)), 1302 new and improved bot was a crazy scorer, and 25 gave us some of the hardest defense of the year.
Once again I like to thank 1923 for playing with us again, great team, can't wait to play together again at IRI. Also, thank you 219 for providing crucial defense and scoring.
Overall, epic madness!
