My first reaction: "Well, at least we're not in Archimedes, I guess." That's always been the farthest from the entrance, making the walk from the stands to the pit even longer. I'm really stretching to find something to make me feel more calm about the TechnoKats being among such teams. :)

yea but we have the furthest pits, it balances out. I just hope all these good teams don't consume a poor little rookie team like us

It balances okay for the drive teams, but anyone else in Archimedes gets the short end of the stick. The walk around to the far corner of the stands -- and back again -- was far and away my least favorite part of my 2004 Championship experience. Having to go all the way past the seats and turn back toward the entrance to go down the steps just added insult to injury.
It's much nicer to be on the field right by the entrance corner, with no extra change in direction required to reach a good place to sit.

You can always find 359 in one of the hardest divisions.
We always seem to be in the same division as 71, 111, and 179 year after year.
Find the pattern in that and you solved this algorithm. :p

Swing by 1646's pit and let's talk!

The one that carry an alliance despite heavy defense and traffic will be far and few in this field of teams.:yikes: :yikes:
I'm looking forward to watching Andy Baker as a coach for 45 on the field. Perhaps we will be together again like in '03 eliminations. We just had a few laughs talking about it. Andy has a great memory and can remember every detail.

Also, We have at least one WA team on each of the four fields. Be sure to check out 1983 (Curie), 488 (Archimedes), and 360 (Newton), IMHO three of the top WA teams.
Shout out to 359, glad to see you again after a fun time in Oregon.

3. 111, 1717, 418

8. 1208, 494, 1742

I would have prefered to not be an alliance captain and selected with the 16th pick (24th team). :D :D
Or be on the 5th alliance team with the middle team.
And another note: We have never been with any of these teams at CMP, only AGAINST most of them. Because Galileo has so many low-numbered teams compared to the other divisions, assuming veteran presence makes a difference, some teams will luck out with scheduling. I'd bet on it with only 7 matches to play in a field of 87.

There's so many good teams in this division that it's going to end up like the MSC with A LOT of good teams going unselected. I'm just hoping we're not one of those in such a deep field.

I think the one thing that can be predicted accurately is that the teams who make it to Einstein will have earned it. I look forward to the competition on Galileo and watching all of the teams compete together. I also look forward to trying to follow what is going on in the other divisions with all of those incredible and intense team efforts in play. Einstein is going to be spectacular, 2009-style.

Who will then?
1. 67, 71, 1646
2. 45, 987, 1902
Hmm, interesting that the #2 seed in the prediction would beat out the #1 seed. I'd agree with you because statistically #2 has a 3.94% advantage OPR and SoS-adjusted CCWM-wise, however ... it's team Hammand and team HOT ... somehow those guys just know how to get a W at the end of the day on Einstein.

No love for the west coast huh? Along with 1717 and 987, 971 and 973 are two devastating dumpers who each have a banner under their belt already. I wouldn't be surprised if two of these four teams seed in the top 8.
Prediction: 67 will not seed in the top 3.
Hmm, that's a possibility. HOT is going to be one of the main "teams to beat" so they're going to face a lot of defense and get a lot of attention to be blocked. This might end up in the opposing alliance ignoring a slightly higher scoring robot to defend against and dooming them, allowing HOT to triumph.

I love West Coast robots. The designs that come from the west coast are some of my favorites of all time. In the past we have worked well with both 330 and 987 (ex. 2005 Champs and 2008 IRI).
I have not seen many of these robots, since we have been competing for the last 4 weeks straight....but I know that 1717 is very similar to 217...and we have had a lot of success with that style of robot watching our backs.
I am very interested to see how well we will do outside of Michigan. It appears the style of play varies throughout the country.
Looking forward to Friday morning!

What would you classify/describe Michigan's style of play as? I only know that the north east is notorious for lots of defensive play although this year lot of teams broke out of that as killer offensive robots. But even still, all us :D northeast teams have that defensive skill inherent in our drivers, hehe.
Well I sponsor a rookie team and we are excited to be part of Galileo. We are a small team, only 6 members. So we are looking for a team that would like some extra help with scouting, since we cant do much alone.

No question that if 67 and 71 team up, they will be hard to beat.
However, lets not forget 71 and 1114 at Midwest this year, beaten by a well-rounded 8 seed. I think what's more important is who they would pick as the 3rd alliance member. 1646 in that scenario would be the key to that alliance.
With a deep field this year, I'm not so sure an 8 seed will be as successful like in the past, 7 vs 2, etc. #1 seed can still create a well-rounded alliance.
I dont think defense will prevail as much as in regional play. There are just too many offensive scoring machines in this division.
During seeding matches, scouters will have to identify those machines that dont really score and adjust their strategy then.
In '08 you only had 2 trackballs for 3 teams and no one really shared the trackball in hurdling.
In '07 you had the deadly bonus rampbots and an 8 seed could pick the best one out there.

Did somebody say defense? I heard someone say defense.
But in all honesty we do have the ability to score & do super cells. We've had better luck in a defensive role vs. an offensive one in most matches.

Oh, nothing to worry about over here on the West Coast....

This is going to be the most exciting division, In my opinion, not just because 1902 is it in. But because to the depth of teams. I will be here in Orlando rooting and cheering my heart out.

I agree. The depth of this division is simply fascinating. I'm not interested in the 2nd picks this year than I am about the 1st picks, simply because there are so many teams to pick from.

Bob used to take team pics for everyone outside in the plaza, but I believe he told me FIRST was doing something else this year. If he attends the Championship (not a given), he isn't sure what he'll be doing.

Do you have a suggestion as to which team it might be?
I'm kinda biased, but I'd really like to see 236 win... so I'm rooting for Curie.
Wouldn't mind seeing someone from our division but I'm pullin for 217. Go Thunder Chickens!

Anyone wanna trade a shirt for a MORT bandana? Ellen I believe you owe me an uberbots shirt from last year;) I gave one of your members the bandana last year to hand to you, don't know if it ever got there.

Yeah, somehow we never ended up crossing paths at all. I never ended up with the bandana either... I'll have to find out who the bandana bandit is! I'm already making people do my t-shirt trading dirty work since I'm not going to be at the Championship this year... maybe I can coerce them into getting you a shirt at long last.

Agreed! In a division like this the level of competition will be fair but with the number of "average" teams the qualifiers won't be extremely difficult (unless you're really unlucky). Eliminations will be drastically different and much harder.

Similar to what I did last year (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=735425&postcount=165), I ran through 200 simulated qualification match schedules (all 102 matches, using the FIRST match generator). I used each team's average opr (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=76618) for their contribution to a match. I calculated the standings for each of the 200 simulated qualification schedules, and then looked at some statistics from the aggregate results.
When I went back and looked at last year's data, a team finished within 1 standard deviation of their average seed 60% of the time, and within 2 standard deviations 95% of the time. Only 3 teams seeded higher/lower then their min/max seed.

I'm hoping to not be seated that far down ;) 1270 is hoping to turn a few heads. We have been working very hard on everything we could, we got the bot working at the end of the Buckeye so our averages are way down from where we are hoping to be. This is a stacked division this year, I haven't been on Galileo since 2003.......... Good luck to everyone!! I know I'm looking forward for some intense matches.

Only 3 teams seeded higher/lower then their min/max seed.
...
Joe, would you be so kind as to do this for Curie also? And I'm sure the other divisions wouldn't mind.

It has already been said but wow this is going to be an amazing field! Can't wait! To be honest I think this division is so deep with quality that making predictions of elimination outcomes is just going to go out the window. I suspect epic matches, and predict amazing plays.

With so many good teams playing during qualifications, you guys think that this year especially, that there's a chance for a mediocre robot who got paired up with great partners each match to be ranked #1? I don't know if its happened before at the Championship, I know it happens at regionals, but how bout at the big show?

I'd say it's possible, however, I've never been to a championship before (I'm a freshman). But I bet it could happen. I doubt it would bring them to #1 but i can imagine the top 8. It's still unlikely.

Naa, top 8 is understandable, but has a team gotten lucky with alliance partners and gotten to 1st seed at Champs?

It has happened before. I know some will say 1732 in 2007 that got lucky and seeded #1 on Curie. One would be crazy to say we were on the same level of 1114 and 330, but I feel we were one of the better tube scorers and with only seven qualfication matches and an easier schedule, a lot can happen. I'm not sure its a good idea to call out various teams and say their achievements were lucky, though. But yeah, it has happened before a couple of times.

Our robot:
Team RICE 870
Power Dumper, conveyor belt to hopper
Holds 12 balls comfortably, 16 or so max
Us and 102 were by far the best robots at Long Island, and we seeded 1 and 3 accordingly, losing in semi finals together to unfortunate circumstances
It's cool to see us (fairly) far up in that rankings sheet! It'd be awesome just to make eliminations.

This year's game is even more prone to a mediocre average definitely creeping up there. And the problem with that is, that the mediocre team generally either
1. messes up the alliances that the other lower seeds might possibly because generally other seeded teams don't want to team up with this seed.
2. or picks a really strong team but the other alliances are stronger and they definitely don't make it to finals, which ultimately kinda dooms the other strong robot that had a chance.
I saw it happen at regionals,
but worlds is a class above regionals and I'm not sure if this is very likely at worlds. Teams bring their best and most times the good robots do end up on top.

I've seen this happen before at regionals and the Championship, but not very often. If they really lucked out by seeding where they did, usually their alliance does not go very far, because often the best they can have on their alliance is one good team total(their first pick), because by the time they go again on the serpentine all the other top-notch bots have already been selected. Here, while the division is deep enough that they could still have two good teams on their alliance, there is also the potential for there be some superalliances of three great robots. So again, it isn't that likely for one "lucky" team to have a huge net effect on the outcome of the field.
On another note, the Galileo thread has the most posts in it out of the four divisions- is this a sign that it will be the most spirited field at the Championship?

(whew) at least we're unlikely to end up dead last, with our max at 86 out of 87.
is this a sign that it will be the most spirited field at the Championship?
Absolutely! EVERYone knows that Galileo is the best division, and that's why they put so many of the very best teams there. Just that, like Wayne said, there's gonna be a lot of blood from all the thrashing....
Sad to say, while 1676 will be there in force, I won't. Work beckons. Sorry to be missing it.

Galileo is easily the best spirited. I wouldn't say that it's because we're talking the most here, I just believe that Galileo got the most avid Chief Delphi users. :D.

I guess the pride in the sucess of your team helps, but then again you're always successful. Or maybe the cheering brought success, that means in order to beat 67 you have to take down their cheering section (graciously of course), a whole new strategy of game play.
Well it's nice to to know that we'll probably finish around 79th. But hey there's a .5% chance at finishing at #11! Who knows though I've seen (and experiaced) wiered things at FIRST competitions.

Yes I have to agree with Megan on this one. Our team has surprised me as well, normally our team is quite reserved because of all the amazing scouting our teams does. I think our repeated success this year has been a catalyst for such a change. I feel the great cheering has greatly impacted our drive team and kept morals up even when it seemed we would lose, which helped us turn around and win :D. We have some new cheers that have helped us compete with the great teams like rush(27), killer bees(33) and the thunderchickens(217). I hope we can keep it all up in Atlanta :D

Alas, the show must go on. You teams better not give any funny business on the field because Paul and I will be your scorekeepers for GALILEO and penalties give us more to do. :p Also, please check all connections on your robots!
Personally, I want to see good play and high energy! Clearly, GALILEO is the best field this year but I want everyone to know it! :D Can't wait to start!

On the Galileo prediction;
Galileo is a feast of famine division, with a very loaded top tier, but the weakest bottom of the field as well. That will result in many top machines having a loss of two due to bad qualification pairings, as well as open the door for a chance at a new high score. Even more than any other division, Galileo will be won during alliance selections.
I actually have to agree with Looking Forward in a sense that pairings are going to be super crucial. I myself put together an excel sheet and noticed that ~25 teams have a higher match loss total than match win total and didn't make it into eliminations in at least one event.
But at the same time, I believe that Galileo won't be won during alliance selections and I won't be surprised if there are upsets in Eliminations. I think its going to be very very intense. I am predicting a lot of dark horses in our division and a lot of break ups in alliance pairing....
ATL in 2 days guys, GET EXCITED!

I completely agree with this, in elimination pairing many teams that rank higher than 67 and 71 and even 111 will be looking to split them up in any way that they can. And no I don't think any of those three will rank first, I think the #1 seed could go to anyone who had a good line of matches, there will be a lot of qualifyers where teams that have been amazing lose due to a no show partner. And because of the upsets that will most likely happen, eliminations are going to be extremely close and almost anyones game. But then again 67, 71 or 111 could seed 1st and make a dream team alliance. But then again, there are so many other alliances that could be formed in this division that could eliminate 67/71 alliance, just look at 1114 and 71 at midwest. And this feild will be just about as deep in eliminations dues to the heavy top tier.
And 744 will begin flying in 20 hours, give or take.
987 is taking off from Las Vegas in 5 hours!!!!
see you guys there:)

If you don't like the way you seeded in the simulation, don't worry, OPR hasn't proven to be much more effective at predicting matches then flipping a coin.

:D Hopefully we can get an NJ alliance going this year haha. Us, 25 and 56 - what awesome pit neighbors! <snif> I guess we just got too many numbers in our team number.
I used the average opr and the actual match schedules to predict each match and determine the seeding.
Very nice Joe, even if it's about as real as a wooden nickel, it is still COOL.

Exploding bacon, we owe you one.
In match 2, we were with exploding bacon and against 971. Immediately two robotics, one on either alliance, had issues and would not work and were scored upon. Our robot scored on the disabled robot and then moved to push it out of the way so that we could pick up an emtpy cell.
1902 did an AMAZING job scrambling from 971 and even scored a few times, and then when we got free, we proceeded to help 1902 take down 971. 971 did catch up to us once but we escaped with minimal damage.
It was among the best match of the day for us.

Maybe so but in this case Wildstang makes the final decision since they're the alliance captain.

WildStang, HOT, and Spartan Robotics, congratulations on those insanely impressive matches both in Galileo and on Einstein. It is the first time I've seen the game played with such stacked alliances. Galileo was so packed with good teams that friggin 25 was second to last pick!! I mean, that never happens! 971 last pick??!!?!?! Crazy division.
We were honored to watch and cheer on our NJ friends 56, 25, and 1923. Just too bad we couldn't join you down on the field in eliminations:( , but we had a good 5-2-0 and had fun playing with the teams we look up to most. See you all next year.

Awesome, awesome time. We couldn't have picked better alliance partners than 1717 and 2775. We gave the dream team a definite run for their money. Don't know how many people saw it, but with a few seconds left in the 2nd match, our human player threw a Super Cell and rolled over at least 4 prongs before dropping out. That would have put us 1 point behind still, but it would have been really cool. :P
We did just as good, if not better, than the Newton and Curie Champions did vs them, and we are extremely proud of that. I feel that in any other division our alliance could have made it to Einstein, but so it goes!
Congratulations 111, 67, and 971!

Ditto to the below-
the #1 alliance WAS the one to beat- 111 and 67 especially really had the right design this year!! Congratulations.
Our team (25) fought hard and we had a great time competing. Galileo was really stacked and every round was a challenge- That's the way it should be.
Now consider this- suppose you played this game on carpet with LAST years track with everyone going counterclockwise at high speed. Hmmmm....

A huge congrats to 111, 67 and 971, you guys performed great all competition long and were truly the best alliance there.
Second, maybe not so cheerful comment.
For teams who competed on Galileo, did you notice that the blue alliance station seemed to lose communication throughout the weekend? At first I thought "oh we must have something loose", but after hearing of it happening to team after team, I raised an eyebrow. Did any of you also notice this?

I just wanted to thank every team on behalf of WildStang for making this division as thrilling and intense as it was. I couldn't have been happier to have seen the teams I did and the opportunities we had to be with several great teams. I hope to see many of you guys in the future. Great Job everyone!
Congrats to 67, 111, and 971. Y'all played really well.
708 & 45, you were great alliance partners. For a team that had never made elims before 2009, being selected at all three of our events this season was a dream come true. Thanks for being a part of that.

I just wanted to say how amazingly competitive and just plain BEASTLY this division was. You know when you have teams like 179, 20, 11, 461, etc. being passed up in the draft that there are just so many quality teams to choose from. I've said it before and I'll say it again - Atlanta is an entirely different game. Everyone should be extremely proud to say they played in the division that won it all in 2009.
I think one of the highlights for us was going out and playing in qualification match 42 against 45, 67, and 111. Just being in that match made our day.
Thanks to all the teams we talked to and played with. If any of you who swung by our pit and saw our sweet t-shirts are interested in purchasing one, head on over to the PG Store at http://pg1646.spreadshirt.com
Again, thanks and congratulations to all the teams from Galileo.

I would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to FRC Team 2775, lead through a terrific competition experience by Greg Needel. There are moments in our personal histories with FIRST that are stand-outs for us. Watching 2775 was a stand-out moment for me, knowing that so many teams have been inspired by these rookies and how some helped them along the road to Championship. Also knowing that there is great opportunity for growth and development of FIRST teams in Tennessee and the impact that this rookie team is having and will continue to have by inspiring the people they meet, encourage, and help in their region. It was really something special to be able to follow you guys through the season. Congratulations on a job well done. :)
I would also like to give a shout out to Gatorzilla out of Dickinson, Texas. You made us proud! I can't wait to see what you do next year. Seriously.
Rookies rocked this year in FRC. That's the truth.

It's true, though the scores were nearly identical--certainly not enough better to definitively claim "second best alliance" status.
1717, 870, 2775 lost by 30 and 16 in Galileo Finals.
217, 98, 247 lost by 32 and 17 in Einstein Finals.
Those were the best performances against the winning alliance. Props to 67, 111, 971 for a very sweet run to the Championship!

If that was on the side closest to the tunnel then yes our robot, had a feild issue in our first qualifier. We had comms, we tested before and after and it worked fine. We concluded a feild issue, but o well, what happened happened.

Haha, when I went over to Greg, 2775 seemed a bit upset about pairings during qualifications, but I think we all knew that they would be in eliminations on Saturday afternoon. ;) I still think team DeWALT is the most impressive rookie of the season. I take into account their partnership with their main sponsor instead of just pure robot accomplishments which by the way include St. Louis Finalists along with being Galileo division Finalists ;)
2775, your future is very bright, and I'm proud to have another yellow and black team in FIRST that can say that.

We, 25, were on the blue alliance exactly three times, each at a different player station. We experienced no issues.

I'll echo Kyle's curiosity on this. Both 1646 & 461 had communication issues when we were in the Blue 1 player station spot. The robot would become unresponsive for about 10 seconds and then would become responsive again and act normally. This happened in our match against 25 and 179 at the start and end of the match seen here. (http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/match/2009gal_qm50)
After checking the robot, everything was fine and we never had the problem again but I seemed to notice other times when it looked like the same thing was happening to other teams.

Congratulations to 111, 67, and 971 for being national champs. Your alliance was incredible to watch.
I also want to give my deepest thanks teams 71 and 987 for choosing us (65) as an alliance partner. Even though we didn't get very far, I felt that it was a high honor to work with the legendary Beast.

For teams who competed on Galileo, did you notice that the blue alliance station seemed to lose communication throughout the weekend? At first I thought "oh we must have something loose", but after hearing of it happening to team after team, I raised an eyebrow. Did any of you also notice this?First let me echo the congrats, not only to our division champions, shortly thereafter world champions, but to all the teams that competed on Galileo. It was an honor to work this field for the week.
Your scorekeeper team kept records of the match turns as well as records of which robots had issues. We did not see a pattern that followed one alliance station or either alliance. We did see that certain teams consistently had trouble with their robots, regardless of which alliance or station position they were assigned. This normally indicates the problem is on the robot side instead of the field side. I was watching the status displays most of the time and often knew there was a problem before the team did. In such instances we alerted the FTA and FTAA to try to see if they could identify and correct the problem. Most often the radio links would drop at the same time as a robot suffered a collision. I did notice that the robots having the most trouble syncing with the field tended to have the radio buried inside the robot. Metal can interfere with radio reception, as can large motors and their magnetic fields. We also had chat open to the NI booth and would alert them to check out robots we thought might need an experienced eye to find a subtle or hidden issue.
In 101 qualification matches we aborted two matches during play, one because an E-stop was hit when it should not have been. One other was replayed when multiple teams showed simultaneous communication issues during the match, leading us to believe that there could have been a field fault. There were many times when I'd see robots stop moving, yet status indicators would show no problems. Sometimes we could see parts of the robot moving (like an intake roller) but no drive capability. Draw your own conclusion as to where the problem resides. Perhaps that seems to some as if there were massive field problems, but having weathered many seasons at FIRST, it seemed everything ran pretty smoothly to me. Overall, we cycled qualification matches every 6 minutes and 16 seconds.
If someone has some evidence of a problem I missed, I'd sure like to pass it back up the chain to improve future competitions.

It also shows our pre-champ configuration.
The upper conveyor belts were removed, resulting in never storing balls in conveyor runs, and a dumping roller that was geared ridiculously fast.
I'll PM you an email, thanks for the pics.
And about that support, we were debating not even putting it in (we were sooooo close on weight).... but later decided to just to take the hit. Well, I can say we're glad we did.

Our rookie team had a blast in the Galileo division. It was great to have them compete against Wildstang in their first qual match, get beaten, and then watch Wildstang and their alliance win the whole thing.
One disappointment was also for us when the robot didn't move at all in a match, even though it had communication with the field. It only happened once the whole season, and we couldn't find any problem with our robot afterward. I talked with 1646 (I think) and it happened to them twice and they couldn't find any cause either.
One of our coaches was talking with a veteran team who apparently knew about a bug where if you turn on the robot before the DS had booted that there's a race condition that can occasionally result in this symptom. If true, it might be what happened to us. Normally we turn on the DS first, but there was time pressure to get the bots going for that match, and someone might have turned the bot on early. It fits better than any other theory I have. It could also explain why the problem occurred more for some teams: They might just be in the habit of turning their robot on early.
I can't find any info or posts about this though. Does anyone know about it? Is it really a problem? Is there a source of info us rookies should learn about?
I know this isn't really a field issue, and the fields did work amazingly well. It would have been nice to know that we have to be careful about this problem, and for the field managers to know as well (if true), so that they don't urge the kids to turn their bots on without being sure the DS is on.
In any case, we'll have a more strict turn-on procedure next year!

I just wanted to say it was great competing in Galileo this year. 67 was happy to represent the division, and we are glad that that we were able to help bring the Championship back to Galileo for a second season.
Thank you to all the teams that we alligned with throught the weekend.
It was great to meet all the new people I talked to. Especially talking with Shawn from 25, Andy Baker, Adam from 973, and Amir from 1717.
1717: I really admired your robot and your team. I was watching you guys work on autonomous modes on the practice field and the intensity and urgency that was displayed was incredible. For such a great robot, you guys were hustling around like crazy. It put a smile on my face to see how hard you were working to continue to improve. It was great to discuss game strategy with you. I wish we had a chance to play with you in a match, just to see how it would have gone. Maybe next year......
To everyone on 111 thank you for picking us and allowing us to have some input on the alliance selection list and strategy. You guys have an amazing team. It was a pleasure to coach with Raul and work with one of the best in FIRST. Your robot is amazing and your game play strategy is incredible.
To 971, you have a great robot. It started out rough for you in your first match, but you kept competing and working hard and we definitely noticed. There was no way that I expected you to be there at the end of the draft. I also had you guys in my pre-championship top 5, and you proved that observation correct in the end. Great job!
I am not sure we have had as smooth of matches this season, as we did this weekend. That is a credit to the great teamwork that we experienced during all of our matches together.
Thank you all for a great weekend!

How could we not pick the most dominant team during the regional season? Your robot lived up to its expectations on Galileo, so it was an easy decision. I'm glad you and your scouting team gave us input on the alliance selection list, it helped a bunch to hear another team's opinions of who they thought was good and why. It was also a huge benefit to have to justify why we wanted team X over team Y, it really made us think. The give & take between the two teams to come up with the final list helped make it better.

This just made me Lol. XD If we were that partner....I don't think that alliance would've made it past QFs lol.
anyone have close up pics of 973's Raptor, that thing was such a beast, I only got distanced fuzzy shots of it in action. Thanks.
Pat Fairbank took a whole bunch of pics, and here's a decent one as we were configured at champs.

I agree with some of the last few posts that:
Something was up with driver station blue 1. Our robot kept losing communication on practice day both times we were in that position on the field, and then occasional resets.
And I was most impressed by 1717. Personally, I thought they had the best robot. Its ability to score was very consistent.
67 and/or 111 would have done equally well had 1717 been their alliance partner instead throughout the weekend. As a team started in 2006? they are a seasoned veteran presence.

Do you have a suggestion as to which team it might be?
I'm kinda biased, but I'd really like to see 236 win... so I'm rooting for Curie.
Excellent Prediction.

Just confirmed with the FIRST site, and they were started in 2006. I agree with you completely with them having that presence. Every year I was able to see their robot at the Los Angeles Regional I was never less than impressed.
In addition, it was really great to see so many teams from California perform so well. Usually many can only name 330, 254, 968 when asked to name "great" teams from CA when there is so much potential elsewhere as well. 971, 1717, 973, & 207 all put up a tough fight in eliminations, hats off to you.

It was coming one of these days. (: I'm really happy for them!

I had a chance to talk with the coach of 1717 after the eliminations and he told me how his team every season is made up primarily of seniors, so every new school year he has an entirely new group of kids that are total rookies. That makes how competitive they have been every year even more impressive.

Yeah, since we allianced with them, we got the rundown (if I remember incorrectly LMK): Each year they take 32 kids from each grade level (32 freshmen, 32 sophomores, 32 juniors, 32 seniors) and only the 32 seniors attend the Championshp, with the others also attending the regionals. Because of this, their drivers every single year are "rookies" but I'm sure they practice quite a bit back home. ;)

Yes,
after talking with Amir from 1717 and his students, I mentioned how they teamed up with our friends 368 in San Diego in 2007 to get to the finals.
The students had no idea what I was talking about, hence, they have new students every year.

Thanks again for all the recognition. Our team really appreciates it, and is extremely proud about getting mentioned by all these great teams! Anyway, a short breakdown on how our team works-- we pretty much have a four year program, with the freshmen to junior classes learning some basic concepts (namely basic compsci, AP Physics, and some hands-on engineering stuff) and then we're pretty much "thrown in the [FIRST] fire" when it comes to senior year. The team usually just takes along a total of 10 or so juniors across two regionals to experience what it's like to be at one, leaving the majority pretty clueless when it comes down to it(including me this year!) It does make for a great year, though. :D
And sorry about not having a clue about past events! I wish we could have experienced some of the comps last year... But it definitely happened to us a couple times this year-- one of our favorite teams was extremely distressed when "our team acted like we had no idea who they were"... we didn't :P
