The discussion comes up annually: Who are the best teams* and robots that will be staying home this week?

*Other than your own; we know you're awesome.

I would say 968, 100, 103, and 330.

I gotta mention that 694 is prolly the best robot that isnt going to Atlanta

In addition to those already mentioned I'll add 2199 and 1816 (Northstar upgrade)

Team 2068! By far one of the best scoring robots at both the DC and VCU regionals.

Team 834, how the ended up as the third pick in New Jersey is beyond me but they were quick dumper with the ability to hold a massive amount of moonrocks.

Team 422, eaisly had the quickest pick up than any other robot at VCU. Their all or nothing dumper could put up some big scores but if it weren't for some timely misses 422 would be in Atlanta.

I would have to say 694 is by far the best team not going. They were absolutely dominant during qualifications in NYC and again in CT. If it were not for some bad luck they would be poised to make a run in ATL

610.

and 968, 330.

You had to be at GTR to understand how close 188 and 610 came to taking down 2056 and 1114.

330 & 968 obviously top my list. But there are two teams I saw up close in both Rochester and Toronto who definitely belong on this list.

1126 - It's going to be very weird to not have this two time Einstein team in attendance. Their robot was very competent this year and was coupled with some great strategy. They could have been a major player in Atlanta.

610 - One of the most underrated robots in FIRST this season. A power dumper with a huge capacity and great driving. Much like their 2007 season, it's a shame this great team won't be attending the Championship.

Other teams I didn't see in person, but definitely are up there include, 103, 69, 100, 910 and 694.

I would probably say 103 and 694 are the best teams that are not going.

Definitely, 1241, 610, 330, and 968 are on my list. They were great teams, played excellent, and will be sad not to have them join us at Atlanta :(

They played great at GTR, FLR, and i really think they should be up with us at Atlanta. And there are many other teams i forgot to mention. See you guys next year!

From Michigan, one of the top teams that qualified was 910 and unfortunetly they are not able to go, I believe it's financial reasons. They are quite an excellent team and robot year after year. And I am said to see their season end early this year.

Hopefully I will see 910 at the summer competitions (especially IRI)

I think Wobot was good, but they didn't have enough funding to go to the Michigan State Competition.

Definitely 968, 100 and 1280. Saw these personally, except well a blue version of the first one. ;) I'm surprised 100 isnt going, as I thought they were already attending in some other division.
Ironic since last season 100 almost made Einstein and 968 did.

103, They would have rocked Atlanta!

Rick TYler
12-04-2009, 16:46
1280.

Cory
12-04-2009, 16:48
definitely 1280, 330, and 968. 1280 is the best team to get the least recognition on Chief, as far as I have seen.

610 for sure. They had an amazing power dumper that could also play amazing defense. They had me shaking in my seat all throughout the elimination matches.

330 is the best bot not going to Atlanta. I wish we had the chance to compete again with them this year. Maybe if we can both make it to IRI we could pair up again there.

A championship without 330, 968 or 103 just doesn't seem right...
1241 would have been heard from if for nothing else their dynamic Payload Specialist. 610 and 910 were serious bots to deal with and would have been picked.
Hopefully they will all find a place to give the bots one more go around in the off seasons.

I agree with all the teams above, but there's one team that isn't going that should. That's 1388. They seeded 2nd in San Diego and barely lost with us in the finals. They seeded 1st in Los Angeles and had some bad luck and good defense played against them.

While they were not an elite 'bot, they were more than capable of carrying their alliance. Plus they have one of the best and most consistent human players this year. She was consistently scoring moon rocks from half court and scored pivotal super cells at the last minute.

12-04-2009, 18:40
what about 1100, very good bot

ErikEdhlund
12-04-2009, 18:46
I would like to add 2041 to the list, they were semifinalists at Midwest Regional and they were the team captain of the alliance that shut out 71 and 1114, which is no small feat.

I was really impressed by 425, was sad to see they didn't get to go. They were a powerhouse scorer with some excellent drivers.

12-04-2009, 19:05
743 put on what was in my opinion the best defensive performance of any bot this year. they shut us down in the semi finals in ny. in hartford in two qualification matches they hounded us and in one match they handled the fan powered 121 very well.

Unfortually for the second straight year I am saying 910. After playing aganist them a couple of times this year their robot is as always awesome. They made alot of headway with the target system they were using, and I watch them put countless hours on the pratice field, to make there robot perfect. I would watch out for them at all the off-season events IRI, MARC and Kettering(asuming those are the ones they will partice in).

I can't believe after facing them on Curie last year in the Quarter-Finals, that tteam 100 isn't gonig be gonig to the chapionship. They bulid great robots year after year and its a shame to see this happen to a very sucessful team.

The goes for team 330. Never would I except to metion that team in this thread, it breaks my heart. But somebody has to sit out. I say that because we are a team that is sitting out for the first team in 6 years. :( This is another team to watch out for come IRI time.

Frankly I say all the teams that are sitting out are good robots and teams. Everyone put six hard weeks of work in to the program, and all set out to solve a problem. Good Job to all teams!

A rookie team DARC out of alabama is a really good team the were seeded no.1 going into the qualification matches, but they didn't win rookie all star, and lost their final matches. They are really good it's team 3025.

I would have to say team 610. After watching them in GTR I saw they were a force to be reckoned with.

definitely 1280, 330, and 968. 1280 is the best team to get the least recognition on Chief, as far as I have seen.

I agree with this statement. they made the finals at two different regionals. pushing one of them to three matches in a very exciting Finals round at MSR

330, 1280, 100, 968 and 3006 is a great rookie team who is gonna be awesome in the years to come.

12-04-2009, 23:35
I would definitely say that 330, 968, 610, 910, and 103 are some good robots that will not be attending.

Although I am excited that team 40 made it off of the wait list and attending. They have a very good robot and a scary autonomous.

Ditto on 330 and 3006.

Most know about 330 already - solid hybrid robot, solid drive team, pretty good human player. This'll be their first time watching at home in quite a while, and it's a shame.

3006 has a solid Z- (or 7)-bot. Save for their team number, you couldn't even tell that they were a rookie team. I'm willing to bet that they'll make it to Atlanta next year.

1388 and 968 are also great teams that barely missed the 'ship... what a pity :/

12-04-2009, 23:52
Two teams that i closely watched were teams 1126 and 610.
1126 - An amazing robot and were on Einstein a couple of years ago, 1126 would have been a huge force in Atlanta
610 - Unfortunately missed Rochester eliminations and would have played a huge factor in elims. 610 has a powerful scoring machine coupled w/ a really good driver.
Other teams that didn't make it this year did do amazing and deserved to go to Atlanta:
103
694
968
69
1939
670
1823
3006
2200

Along with the teams mentioned already I'd add 1251 to that list. They really seemed to be a force in Florida as usual....

My top 5 robots not going to Atlanta are:
1. 968
2. 2199
3. 3070
4. 1100
5. 694

I don't think this does them justice. They're the best defensive team I've seen all year, and they have the ability to score with some of the best robots out there. They would have been a force in Atlanta.

I didn't watch much of any of the webcasts, but there were a handful of teams between the BAE Granite State Regional, Boston Regional, and Connecticut Regional that I will miss watching in Atlanta.

694, StuyPulse, was an incredible offensive force in CT, and would definitely go far at the Championship event. It's a shame we won't be seeing them there!

1276, Kaizen Blitz, was surely in the top few scorers at BAE. They seemed to be overlooked this year, but they had an amazing machine.

1100, The T-Hawks, were outstanding at both Boston and CT. You can't complain about seeding 1st at one and 2nd in the other...and making it to the finals in both! Another great design from our friends from MA.

58, Riot Crew, was also a top-bot at BAE. I remember a few times their hopper getting jammed, but when they were working correctly, they could carry just about any alliance. Very unique and effective design.

Hopefully you guys will all make it to some off-season events! If it means anything, you caught my attention!

Echoing the statements above, 1280 can score with the best up there. I also agree on the 694 point, although I only saw them in the fateful CT eliminations, when they worked, they were deadly.

You beat me to it...but 2041 is an amazing team...we faced them in the finals at STL...and it was pretty scary.

Agreed on 2041. They have a fabulous robot this year, and play really smart. We had the pleasure of playing with them at Midwest in 2008, and the honour playing against them at Midwest in 2009. The good news is, they will be in attendance with their FTC robot.

Beachbots Drivetrain was by far one of the coolest and I will really miss Team 100. They have the sickest way of "Skinning Up" their bots.

Mr. Lim
13-04-2009, 01:46
They've been mentioned several times in this thread, but I have to mention them yet again. This year has arguably been the most successful on-field season for our team, yet I can honestly say there was one overwhelmingly disappointing moment:

When we failed to help punch 610's ticket to Atlanta at GTR.

We were so close indeed! :o

And no doubt they would've been an incredible addition to Canada's strongest FRC contingent ever at champs.

The Crescent Coyotes are back, and stronger than ever...

330 for sure. Their bot was so beautiful. Im glad i got to watch it in action at 2 regionals.

and 968 definitly should be going.

13-04-2009, 13:03
I have to admit... after competing against 968 last year and seeing their robot... it would be nice to see them again...

694 as mentioned earlier is by far one of the best robots I have seen from the mid NJ/NY region and would have been nice to see them in Atlanta, definitely capable of doing some damage...

I am so disappointing that 330 will not be attending. I was really looking forward to seeing there sudo-crab drive in person. I guess now i'll have to find a way to IRI, if they go..

1280's machine is fantastic and beautifully simple. They've been underrated everywhere.

That said, the MSR finals only went for two matches, but just barely. The second match was very, very close. :)

Team 2062 (CORE) wasn't able to qualify for Atlanta this year, and while their robot didn't quite work like they hoped, they're really a quality team and I'd be willing to say the safest team in all of FIRST. They have a 5-regional streak going of UL Industrial Safety Awards (including Atlanta 2008!), and they're a very solid team all around.

Going to add another vote for 910 but I really hope to see them at Kettering and WMRI again this year. Maybe play WITH them instead of against them at both events again.

I think alot of the great teams have been mentioned but 1280 and 103 are some of the best teams not in Atlanta. Losing to 1280 (in 4 matches in the Seattle semi-finals) and 103 (Florida quarterfinals) and witnessing first-hand how these robots can tear it up makes me believe they are among the best robots in all of FIRST this year.

103 went through two regional qualifying's undefeated, was a semi-finalist twice and finalist. They could pick up balls with ease and dump with great accuracy.

1280 was a monster in that it could hold so many balls and score all of them so quickly. The elevator design was purely genious.

When I was looking at 330's TBA page and saw they were not going to Atlanta I had to go double check to make sure everything was working right...

A big surprise indeed.

1939- Another of the spiral loaded shooters with an amazing fire rate.
1158- a very solid dumping robot with a twist
525- Not nesscarly the best robot, but one of my favorite teams
269- solid dumping robot with an outstanding human player

1279 had a solid scoring machine this year and it was well driven they were solid at dc and philly. its a shame that cold fusion wont be going they are a strong team.

1280 i didn't know what their robot was but after all the great reviews on this thread i took a look. their design is excellent and its a shame it wont be shown in atlanta.

From Michigan, one of the top teams that qualified was 910 and unfortunately they are not able to go, I believe it's financial reasons. They are quite an excellent team and robot year after year. And I am sad to see their season end early this year.

Or try to make it out to CA for the Fall Classic or Battle at the Border (if they go to BatB).

I'm disappointed too, but oh well. We've been every year since 1998, when regional attendance was optional and there wasn't one closer than about the Midwest anyway...

I'm going to second 1388 as a good robot that isn't making it. They were dangerous (that's a nice way to put it).

Thanks for all the votes everybody!!!! We wish we could go , we had qualifyed to go, but not the money to go. As someone stated we have no seniors on the team this year, so next year will be a must attend, let the fund raising begin. Andrew we do plan on going to IRI ( if were accepted ) ,MARC ,Kettering ,WMRI ,and ARC if the Ford First teams put it on. We would look forward to competing WITH team 397 at any of these events and hopefully on the same side of the field!!!!
