since the game is Lunacy this year and the event is on Halloween I guess the Evil Sundaes need to have an Evil Halloween Alien Nature to them.
The question is- is Jane going to be there to make them? What kind of meat goes in them? Is this combination toxic......

id love to see a change to the uber strict rules agains sticking your hands through the hole at the outpost, and not picking up balls with tongs...
i know they are for the general safety of the shooters, but they are a nuisance... i spoke with a shooter from another team at the wrap party and he said that picking balls with the tongs was a pain in the neck... also, the hand through the whole rule was kinda annoying too because the amount of matches altered by it...
just my two cents...

Haha, any combo with Jane could be toxic, that's for sure.
I just saw this post. :)
Thank you for thinking of me in regard to the Evil Sundaes, they are truly an experience and so much fun for everyone!
I'm looking at the calendar for October 2009 and it's looking a mite busy for robotics, even down here in Texas, so I'll probably have to pass on helping make the Halloween Evil Sundaes creepy crawly spooky awesomeness. But, I will be thinking of all the great teams that will participate and the well-run event that is Brunswick Eruption. It is an excellent competition with knuckle-biting moments and great experience for the pre-rookies.
All the best with BE8!

Brunswick Eruption 8 Update
October 31, 2009
In NJ we are just 2 weeks away from the start of the school year and I am taking these last few days of summer to work on the organization of BE8 operations.
This season team 25 is in rebuild mode since we graduated 15 seniors last June and many of our workers and their families have moved on. Wait until you see the new drive team. Our drive team coach is also getting married to another team parent the week before the event!! So we are pretty busy here...
Volunteers- Folks who want to come out and be involved should sign up through our event site (below)
Teams- we have 18 signed up so far. We will take up to another 18. Please sing up ASAP. I will be invoicing teams on about Sept 15th. All teams are welcome and we expect to have lots of fun.
Side events- FTC will have a scrimmage at the event. We will have the Evil Sundae contest at lunch time. The kids talked about another Guitar Hero tournament but that is not a confirmed activity yet.
Rules changes- we will kill the penalty for high scoring rule. Other than that it will be business as usual.
all event info and signups- http://www.raiderrobotix.org/be
We look forward to another fun event. I hope all teams consider coming out!!

Side Events at BE8 and a few changes
with 6 weeks to go here are a few of the things in the works
a. FTC side tourney- I am not sure if it will be this or last season's game. Either is possible and that is up to the FTC moguls in our region. Vince will tell us.
b. Beta Test Team Workshops- I've spoken to both 103 (Labview) and 1089 (Java) about hosting control system workshops. It looks very likely for both but they are awaiting their control systems.
c. Evil Sundae Contest- as before- 1 rep per team can gobble for the trophy. Bring your Pepto . Any (SAFE) suggestions what would make them especially Evil?
d. Guitar hero Tournament- individuals register in the morning for a time slot. Players duel it out for a trophy and portion of the registration pot. Finals play on the giant screen in mid -Commons
e- Awards ceremony split up- we will have some of the trophies awarded right after lunch. The tournament winners will award in the end. Should help teams eliminated and traveling far.
f. Rules changes- we wont penalize you for high scoring.
27 teams as of today. I am invoicing tonight. We can take a few more... The event is coming together
You dont want to miss it.

1.5" cubes of butter - texturally gross when wet/cold
Caramels - takes time to chew when cold, can't easily swallow whole - but admittedly could be a choking hazard.
Potted meat (http://www.pk.org/pottedmeat.html) - or maybe those pork brains in milk gravy (definitely not kosher)
Mealworms or insects? (http://www.teachersource.com/BiologyLifeScience/InsectCandy.aspx?Utm_source=Google&utm_medium=CPC&utm_term=default&utm_campaign=BiologyLIfeSci&utm_content=Insect&gclid=CJjKiJiF_pwCFQxM5QodD1INcA) Would PETA complain if they were alive? (Maybe removing those real scorpions from their lollipop shell and putting them on top?)
That's enough for now, I think.:yikes:

Don-
the pork brains in gravy look like a good possibility- thanks. I need to get mint ice cream to go with it.
BTW- Insect products and recipes are available from Fluker Farms in La.
I actually have a poster from them over my desk saying "We Sell Flukers Feeder Insects". They wouldn't let me hang it in the cafeteria for some reason.....

As we get closer to BE8 I have some news for all involved and the FIRST community
1. as of today we are up to 29 teams. We max out at 36. Act now if you plan to attend. All teams have been invoiced by e-mail and many have paid their registrations.
2. Food Drive- this past year our team has "adopted" the North Brunswick Food Bank . This summer the team renovated the facility and painted it. Over the past few weekends we collected hundreds of canned goods at the entrances of the local markets. And the team has put in hundreds of man hours working for the bank.
Now we call on our BE8 teams. We will offer a special tiki to the team that brings the greatest number of non- perishable food items to BE8. Teams attending the workshops and not playing can participate too. Consider canned goods your ticket to the workshops.
(cans of coffee get a triple count score!!!!!- they are the hardest donation to get and much sought by the families)
Nearly 400 families in our town rely on the food bank. And the holidays are coming!!
3. Workshops- aside from the two Beta Test expo workshops, we will offer a range of workshops in both FTC and FRC areas, these being offered by a diverse group of teams and adult leadership. Topics will be sent to the teams as we crystallize them but our event will mimic the FRC events that precede the Championships.
Thats all for now. We are working hard to make sure that this event is a lot of fun. Dont miss it!!
WC

Update-
with 29 days til BE8 here is the latest-
1. we are up to 31 teams. The max we will take is 36 but it would be nice to get at least 33 so we have 11 equal alliance groups and no matches are played with "bye" teams
2. Our food drive to date has collected nearly 900 items. The collection at BE8 hopefully will bring this up to 2500 (a goal). Remember- ground coffee counts for 3.
3, we will be using the NASA field. The regolith is a patchwork arrangement. Teams at Duel will see what I am talking about. Again- we will not penalize high scores by removing empty cells or supercells.
That's it for now. If you are thinking- "gee we should go" then you probably should and better get registered now through the event site below in this thread.

Teams who bring a Pre-Rookie team and allow them to compete using an older robot refitted to play Lunacy will only pay a $100 registration fee while the Pre-Rookie is given free admission. A team who brings two Pre-Rookies along will receive free admission!

Well that was fun. I missed the evil sundae though... I heard something about stuffed olives...?
Our alliance managed to get all the way to the finals,
Alliance 7 (1989, 56, 1807) vs. Alliance 1 (2753, 1923, 1302)
Our alliance had a bit of problems, as 1807's ball collector literally started smoking mid-game, and our orbit ball basket somehow got all bent up and wouldn't dispense properly, so we had to resort to using defensive maneuvers and super cells as there wasn't enough time for repairs.
Congrats to everyone who participated!

1989 is a team that came out of nowhere to almost take it! Nothing to diminish their alliance partners, who were all that they needed to be.
Taking the initiative to redesign the robot as practice for the upcoming season appears to have paid off in more than one way: The idea worked in competition (OK, it kinda went kablooey near the end, but until then it was far better...) AND all the newer kids got to understand what it takes to build something - that'll serve you well come January 9.
Plus, 1989 got to see first-hand just what it will take to go all the way to the finals. I saw a LOT of panic on the team - starting with alliance selection - so you will want to control that at Javits, but you did pull together for the most part.
I also saw some team members who weren't doing anything, while others were frantic. You need to utilize all of your team members in those situations, and preparation and training of every member in every job is the key. OK, not everyone will be an expert, but anyone should be able to shout to anyone else "Go get a #35 master link" and be completely understood. Work on that between now and January, since you have the possibility of being an awesome team this year - but only if you use the whole team...
Good job altogether!
Don
Our alliance had a bit of problems, as 1807's ball collector literally started smoking mid-game
Hmm..so we're not the only team who's had a smoking robot on the field...

Hey- we have our event in a public school and there is NO SMOKING anywhere on the premesis
Does anyone have a video of the last-second double Super Cell score we made into 768's trailer? I know some other people were recording the matches. I think it was in QF 2-1.
I was in the middle of recording it but my camera's memory card ran out of space 2 seconds before we scored...
Some past members of our team don't believe we actually did it...

Wish we would've stayed for elims. :o
Yeah, I was sad to hear that team 11 had left! There were a lot of teams including us who were ready to pick you guys!! Oh well...
But in regards to the overall competition, I for one can say I had the best halloween I've ever had! A big thank you to all the volunteers and those working on the field all day during the competition.
I'd also like to thank our alliance partners 1923 and 1302. It was a blast to play and strategize with you guys! Also thanks to Alliance #7 (1989, 1807, & 56) for 3 well-fought finals matches that made the competition so exciting!
And a final big thanks to Team 25 for hosting this great off-season event!
