Design World (http://www.designworldonline.com/) just posted an informative video from US Digital, showing how to remove the encoder disc of an E4P encoder (http://store.andymark.biz/am-0174.html) without damaging the disc or the circuit board.

Here is the video. (http://video.designworldonline.com/video/5327bacdbad2488eaf2fb406522db1ae)

Thanks Design World (http://www.designworldonline.com/) and US Digital (http://usdigital.com/)!

Thanks for the link Andy. I wish I has seen this a month or so ago before I scratched one of our encoder disks with a screwdriver trying "option B" in the video. Is is possible to buy just a replacement disk or are the encoders only available as a complete set?

I ordered the disks as a standalone piece directly from US Digital using part number HUBDISK-E4P-250-250.
They were $7.15 each. That included the plastic overlay and the aluminum disk. I wish that they would sell the plastic overly only - should only cost a few cents and could be sent letter.
