It's battle of the teams.
____________________________________
Rules:
Your team is determined by the first letter of your username.
If your username starts with the letter A C E G I K M O Q S U V W (or numbers) you belong to Team A
If your username starts with the letter B D F H J L N P R T X Y Z (or symbols) you belong to Team B
Each time a Team A member posts, they will add 5 to our count and each time a Team B member posts, they will subtract 5 from our count.
If the count reaches 1000 Team A wins
If the count reaches 0 Team B wins
Each time a team scores, the game restarts at 500
If/when a team scores, send me a PM! that way I can update the scores

I think the CD Games/Trivia forum time limit (however long it is) is quite long enough. That and a proposed 2-person limit in between your own posts should do the trick between them.
Oh, and read the first post before playing. You do want to know what team you're on, don't you?

Maybe you can install an accelerated increment/decrement table with the values ratcheting up as you get closer to the score?
+/- 5: 400-600
+/- 10: 300-390, 610-700
+/- 20: 100-280, 720-900
+/- 50: 0-50, 950-1000
Or better yet, invert this table to get closer to the "scoring danger zone" faster, where the battles would be more "exciting".
Read the 1st post, or else.....
490
This is a cool idea. I just think it is going to take 5 years for anyone to score. At that point most of the people who were here to start the game, won't be here. Perhaps thats the point... Not sure, I just think it should be feasible for a team to score every month or two.

I'm thinking maybe in the off season the scale should go 400-600. Its like a tug of war on a football field right now.
Of course, I only say this because my team is winning. As soon as it hits 500, we should keep it 0-1000!;)

I already have to count the posts on a page and check the name of the person before me. I really don't care to have to do any more research for this thread. Besides, I think it should go back and forth a few times before anyone wins. It isn't interesting if first score always wins.

because e is before j, but i believe the rules meant directly before as in i is before j. 455 would be 5 fore both me and jeff subtracting 5 each from eric.
can the rules get specified so that its only the letter DIRECTLY behind yours?
also, i was thinking that since team B is trying to go down, have team B get double if the letter goes say E[team a] posts, D[team b] posts, because the letter progression is downwards and the opposite for team A, they'd get double if the letter goes D[team b] posts E[team a] posts for upward progression. And What about when the same letter posts?
obviously it could get way difficult but random points rules would also be funny =)

Top post! Go B!
Since I can't post anew.....
http://jameskiefer.com/img/avsb.php
Note the reference to "*THE* letter that comes before yours", meaning only one letter, meaning the most relevant one out of all that came before it, inferring the one that comes directly before yours.
I think the rule is clear if people take the time to read and comprehend.
425
The real confusion is the fact that for me, L is before M. But A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J, and K are all before M too. So, as the rule is written, if the person before me has a name starting with any of these, I should use 10 points. I know this isn't how it is intended. That is why we request the rules be modified to say the letter that comes 'directly' before. This would limit me to just people starting with L.
Please change the way the rule is written, or change the rule intention. I honestly don't care which, just one or the other but not both. Thanks.

Ummm... James, what's that about reading the rules before hand? I don't see anything about getting 105 points out of the blue, and you didn't give a correction...
Most people (I think) view at 15 posts per page. So posts 16, 31, 46, ... are the tops of the page. So a post that divides evenly by 15 with a remainder of 1 is a "top of the page" post.
Taking the "on error, goto" part of the rules as follows:If anyone makes a mistake, go back to the post previous to the mistake,...
we go to rsisk's post, and team A sets the score to 370.
