A time to get back at ED!!!! I'll be there.

Conflict: Do I wear my full team uniform and cheesehead or a halloween costume?

Anyhow, I'm either doing Vex or volunteering, depends if I find lots of money lying around or not. Sounds like a fun event, and I'll get to meet a good chunk of New York teams before build season. As the extent of my knowledge of NY teams is "1511", this should be cool :)

According to my friends that are already 229 mentors, I'm going 'whether I like it or not.' I guess they don't know me well enough yet- I never pass up an off-season! :)

Also, thanks for FINALLY not having it the same weekend as Brunswick Eruption! That way I can (maybe) make that trip too and visit my old team.

I think that we have another volunteer to take my place at the Ruckus main tradition. Thanks in advance Libby.

Oh Steve, I think you know there's always room for one more....no need to replace anyone :P

Amazing that it is still only $100 for teams to register for an entire day of fun!

We want to see all of you form NY, NJ, OH, PA and anywhere else!

I think that we have another volunteer to take my place at the Ruckus main tradition. Thanks in advance Libby. I think it would be highly unfair to even suggest volunteering Libby for the Ruckus main tradition. She should at least have a first visit honeymoon period. And Steve - I am surprised that you would even suggest that we take that great honor away from you! :)

Whoever gets pied will be consented first. No one worry! :)

However I will be asking.......and taking requests...;)

I've talked to Libby about the Ruckus for years. She told me she wants to get a pie in the eye. She's practically begged for it!

This year Michigan will be represented. 1528 (iPirates) and 2719 (Ketronix Trojan Robotics) are coming. I already informed the students of the trip before school closed. Besides we have been wanting to compete with the Buckeye Regional teams again.

I didn't know 'politely agreeing' was the same as 'begging to get pied in the face', but okay! I'm up for it.

A bump, yes. Sorry.

I'd like to attend this event, but I have no way of getting from Troy to the Ruckus. If anyone's making plans and happens to have a spare seat in a car somewhere, I'd be happy to cover a share of gas (and of course my own room and other stuff).

There are trains and buses from Albany to Rochester. I would imagine neither is especially cheap however.

You could contact your local teams (250 and 20 off the top of my head) and see if they've thought about going as well.

Josh Goodman

Awesome Evan, and I do think you should try very hard to convince 174 to come up and try to extend their reign in Rochester! ;P But I'm glad you're coming up, it's been a while!

And what about 1712.....Can't you pull some strings Phill and Chuck to get your team up here?

PS: Chuck will you be bringing any FTC with ya?

191: The X-Cats

578: Blue Lightning

1507: The Warlocks

1511: Rolling Thunder

1528: iPirates

2340: NazareX

2719: SRT & Monroe High School

I would like to go, but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to bring the rest of the crew. In between VRC, community stuff and some other team related functions, I don't think we have the resources available to go as a team.

It sure will be fun to watch if I can make it, though!

OMGOMGOM!!! I'm starting to get sooooooooo excited about this. Especially to see all the people i haven't seen from last season! People like Phil from Philly (lol i dont remember your last name but i remember you from the Philly regional), Nick from 1503, ppl from 1923, 340, 191, 1126, maybe even 1714 (remember us from newton?), 188 (yay!), and of course 1511. Pit buddies from ATL :). And it would be nice to see some new faces here as well.

I can't say I remember talking to any of you guys (sorry man, a lot of it's kind of a blur), but I'm happy to remeet you guys at RCR, if my transportation works itself out. Loved your guys' driving on Newton.

To clarify, 1714 DEFINITELY won't be there. I will cause I'm in the area and love cool teams like you guys :) (though I don't own my own cheesehead yet).

I don't know. I've got a design nice and set, but I haven't bought any parts other than the basic kit yet, so if I find some more then definitely.

If you don't mind im sure we could find an extra base bot lying around between, me, chuck or RIT FIRST. So sign up come on down and we'll set something up so you can build/play with a bot friday night and compete saturday!

Chris is me
27-09-2009, 00:09
That would be really cool, actually. I've got about most of of the old base kit, and my design would as it stands require tank tread, 4-5 motors, lots of axles (I actually am one short of building the kitbot) and probably some metal on top of that. (the design can be adapted to use intake rollers too)

Time to sharpie all of the vex stuff I own then? :D I've been suffering from competition withdrawal lately. I NEED to compete every few months, methinks.

Trying to determine what's harder, designing a robot or designing bus schedules around whether or not or how many loaner rides I can get from my friends and / or wherever. :P

Calling 1503 / 1507 to either win the event or face off in the finals. :D

Looks like The Rebel(s) 63, my old Vex team that got me here today, is probably making a return (at least that's what I'm calling myself). Hopefully this time I won't take apart the entire robot mid competition based on a really bad strategy idea combined with the worst execution of parallel treads ever. Though last time my disaster led me to an FRC team, maybe this time...?

I don't believe 174 will be going. I haven't been able to get in contact with the lead mentor...and even if I did, well, I'll just stop and avoid a rant.

Also 1511 will be doing a demonstration of the Beta test system at the Ruckus this year. Up for grabs will be information on updates to C++ programming, the new driver station, and (assuming they show up) the new Jaguars!

Lots of cool stuff and a chance to clear up any misinformation on the new equipment that tends to get spread around. Hope to see you there!

carbuff
05-10-2009, 21:05
there should be 24 teams being that 3015 1551 1405 the new pittsford team possibly 1503 and 48 amd 2053 hopefully they all come for a full house:D

As a fund raiser, do you think that people would buy tickets to get a chance to color my hair at lunch time? I would provide the spray color colored wax.

there might be 1450 73 and 1728 if they come well have 28 teams

Josh Goodman
06-10-2009, 10:08
There are plenty of teams in Rochester and surrounding. It all depends on who wants to come. I know of a couple Rochester teams that don't do offseason events. Teams are still registering so the number of teams is still up in the air. If I had to guess I'd say somewhere between 20-24.

carbuff
06-10-2009, 14:51

One thing you learn very quickly in FIRST is that theory and practice are two completely different things.
When all those teams actually sign up I'll say they're coming. Since they haven't I would say for now they aint coming.

IMO, it'll still be a blast with any number of teams. That being said, 24+ teams is always better, and it looks like we're going to make it. Yay!

so 48 you are coming

I figured I'd try to get you to ask one more time. :)

A subset of Team 48 is coming. We are signed up as Team 48. No students will attend (we already went to Kettering Kickoff this year). We're using 48's robot to allow 379 to field a 2nd drive team.

Several Team 48 mentors and alumni may attend to help out in the pits and such. We're all riding up together on 379's bus. 1:30 AM departure time - awesome.

I believe I will also offer up my face as a target in some pie thing I've heard about. But we all know you'd rather toss at Cormier.

If we only have 18, could we do 6 alliances of 3 or something similar? I personally would rather have less alliances of 3 than more alliances of 2. But then again, hopefully more teams will register.

i still think we have a shot though at 24 teams

Josh Goodman
08-10-2009, 16:49
If we need to make a cut somewhere, we typically have cut number of alliances and kept the alliance count to three teams. All this means is less finals time which either means more time for qualifiers or fun events.

Our team has run into some trouble and we're wondering if anyone can help us out.
After running our 09 robot in 3 parades and several demos, replacing wheels, encoders, and code, she's finally broken down on us a lot earlier than we'd predicted. As it stands, she's in no shape to be run in another match without a lot of time and energy spent on repairs.
Team 578 has always loved going to the Ruckus every year, and we registered to do both the Vex and FRC events this year, but we're afraid we might have to pull out of FRC because of our robot woes.
Are there any teams that have a practice robot or spare robot they'd be willing to let our team borrow for the day, so that we could let new members get drive experience and enjoy the fun of an FRC competition? I realize this is kind of sudden, but we just decided last weekend that our robot was beyond repair.
If anybody is able to help us out in the spirit of Gracious Professionalism, our team would be incredibly thankful!

I did hear that the Spencerport team has an extra robot. They were willing to lend it to the Rookie Pittsford team for the ruckus. They probably would do the same for this case. Contact them.

Let's hope everything runs smoothly this year. There's no point loading up teams with bots that barely work if it means they'll be spending more time troubleshooting than competing. Are you going to be having 18 teams running matches so frequently that they can't even get to their pit before being queued? or is it going to be a more relaxed evenly paced event this year?

Chris is me
19-10-2009, 15:44
Just got a financial "boost" from my parents covering bus tickets to Rochester. I'm excited! Once I get all of my tests out of the way, all I have to do is label all of my Vex parts, build what I can in Troy, and finalize designs (figuring out how to mount the "towers" that will hold the gears holding the arms on is probably trickiest... and how to scrap independently actuated tread in favor of a sliding door... with parts I don't have on hand). Oh, and I have to get EasyC working.

Does it make sense for me to sign up as a volunteer also, or should I just see where I can help when I get there?

Good news- thanks to a generous offer from the X-Cats, team 578 will be able to attend the Ruckus and borrow their practice robot to compete in the Lunacy competition. Our team is eternally grateful for all the teams who offered to help us out, and it means a lot to us that we'll still be able to attend our favorite off-season event. :D

What is the happy medium between ensuring lots of playing time and allowing for pit time for repairs and recovery? I think they are prepping match schedules starting tonight (the close of registration is today). I'll make sure they hear this feedback!

NO. The ones that you can count on are Libby and Alex. Most likely Koko Ed, Kim, if she is there, and maybe 1 or 2 more. Bring cash so that you can buy tickets for the draws. If your number is drawn by the "volunteer", you get to give them a Pie-in-the-Eye. This is a yearly tradition that always seems to "mess" up the finals. The BIGGEST attraction is Alex who seems to be able to get 90% of the pie in his mouth. Big target I guess and it is never closed. ::safety::

I'm pretty sure artificial whipped topping makes a great hair conditioner....

Thank you to all of those involved in putting on a great event. Both 379 and 48 had a great time, and we would not hesitate to come back if the event fits our schedule next fall.

Congratulations to all finalists and winners - by the way, I so called that 48-48 tie in the finals, right down to that beautiful score.

Thanks to our good friends and NEOFRA partners on 379 for giving us a ride to the event and supplying a 2nd drive team for our robot - you guys did an outstanding job! I think everyone was also impressed with your own robot modifications you worked so hard on the past few months - you should be proud of your accomplishments! Thank you for selecting us - it was awesome being on the same alliance as you - thanks also to 1405 for rounding out the alliance and tolerating my "energetic" coaching style. :)

Thanks to 1511 for giving us a glimpse of the new Classmate PC driver station/dashboard.

Finally, thanks to those who allowed me to participate in the pie in the eye event, giving one of our mentors the chance to get me back on behalf of all the team for all the crap I put them through each year. A special shout out to the girl who totally blasted Koko Ed (and half the audience and gym floor).

Ruckus was great!!!

I had a fun time as a referee, although I never managed to catch Jason Rees cheating during the mentor matches! :(

Congratulations to the winning alliance of 191, 2340 and 1511 on a tremendous effort! And congratulations to all the teams that competed! It was especially fun knowing that you all were mixing up the drive team members during the qualification rounds - I loved seeing all the new faces involved!

Congrats to 1511's Ruckus VEX drivers, Kristina and Rachel, for winning the VEX competition and for being very good sports about competing! Big big thanks to Clarkson Ninja Turtles for building the extra VEX bot so we could get some hands on experiences, and for being very gracious especially when it seems they gave away the wrong robot!

A huge thank you to the planning committee! All those hours made the event an overwelming success! And thanks to all the team members, mentors and parents who volunteered! And to NASA for the field! And a huge thanks to Jeff Downs for writing the code to make the field work and the display look pretty!

It was great seeing friends from a little further away - Steve, representing Canada (the Canadian National Anthem was sung just for him), Kim and Eric Eckhardt (newly transplanted to Boston, but back for Ruckus), Libby :), and Travis and the whole crew from Ohio!

I hope someone posts all the award winners soon and lots of photos! (And Koko Ed, those awards were fantastic, if I do say so myself! ;) )

Oh Steve can answer that! He gave a great lesson on pieing to ensure maximum damage.
