Well Jon 1388 will be there again this year. We have our sites on an even better performance this year. Look forward to working with you again in March or even sooner.

Are you kidding? Wild horses couldn't keep team 2493 - Robokong away!

Originally 4, but now 3 Hawaii teams. 359, 2090 and 2437. 368 is going to Portland instead.
Because Hawaii teams can only realistically do regionals during week 1 and/or 2 (Hawaii being week 4), this was a logical choice for a mainland regional. Week 2 has no West Coast regionals. :(

Here I thought I was the only from 1332 on this site! Looks like I need to get on here more often. But we shall rock San Diego. Win or Fail.

Sadly Team 341 won't be able to make it this year :( But we WILL be back in the future - the 2009 San Diego Regional was probably the most fun I have ever had at a regional.

SWIFT and TitanBot - defend our title!

Hopefully we will see each other in ATL.

Have a great regional.

It should certainly be a change from the ~20 degrees and snow were used to at that time of year.

BRING IT! :yikes:

After recognizing ALL of the above team nos. here, looks more like an SVR invasion. Especially 192 who we saw at all 3 regionals last season, and our #1 seed partner in Hawaii. Still cant believe it happened as a result of gradually hanging out. That's what being next to a team 3 out of 4 weeks does!

That's too bad, your team is looking really good during the practice rounds yesterday

Lots of late inspections, not a lot of teams on the field for practice rounds. The competition should be interesting this year.
We finally got our robot through inspection at 5PM, hangar went on afterwards and we will go back for a quick weigh and height inspection this morning.

Good Luck San Diego!

that is true. We beat the #1 and #2 teams after day 1, but ranked below them at #4. Having two matches with 5 penalty points from alliance members will kill your ranking.

I have to say that penalties are having a big impact on teams in San Diego and as a result their rankings. Congrats on your robust and well-designed robot, I really like it a lot and look forward to Arizona next week.

The San Diego Regional was, as usual a great regional!

I would like to thank our alliance partners 1388 and 668. This is one of the best alliances I have ever played on in my 6 years in FIRST. 668's shutdown defense allowed only 1 point in the quarter finals and always gave the opposing alliance's headaches when trying to score. 1388 was a robot that I thought complimented ours very well. In QF2-2, when we broke one of our center drive axles, effectively disabling us for the rest of the match - 668's ability to prevent the other alliance from scoring and 1388's hanging helped us move on to the semi-finals.

I'm also very proud of our pit crew. The fact that they were able to replace a broken drive axle in our transmission, with an axle from elsewhere on the robot in under 20 minutes (in the elimination rounds) was spectacular. After the repair, the robot worked just fine.

Congratulations to teams 100, 294, and 359 for the very competitive semi-final matches! It was very close, but ultimetely your alliance came out with the victory in the 3rd match. I wish one of our alliance partners hadn't been disabled :( maybe the outcome would have been in our favor :). It was our 3rd straight semi-final appearance, so close yet so far once again! We still had a wonderful time and you guys were definetely well deserving of winning the title of San Diego Regional Champions! We hope to make it to Atlanta and compete with you guys again!

Thank you rsisk. Our administration team works hard every year to win that award. We were worried that we won't win that award this year because of competitive business plans from other teams.

Devil Duckies! It was great being your alliance partner! We were thrilled to be in the same alliance. We believed that having you guys complimented the strengths of our robots. It's so unfortunate that we didn't have a competitive 3rd round. Having a disabled defender for 2 rounds seriously placed our team in a losing battle.
Hopefully we see each other in another regional or better yet, in Atlanta. =D

This was my first time out to the west coast for a competition. It might have been colder than usual but we still enjoyed the 60 degree weather.

Thanks to all the teams for making the competition fun - the final matches made me believe that this game can be exciting and will improve as the weeks go on.

The alliance of 359, 100 and 294 was perfect and, in my opinion, is exactly what you need to win the whole event hands down every time. Kudos to you.

Thanks again to everyone who made 357 feel welcome!

Thank you 1266 for the praise. From the Duckies, it means a lot. You have an awesome team.

Thanks to 359 for picking us for the winning alliance, and thanks to 100 (and 359) for a great performance on the field. It was fantastic.

The TorBots (1197) have a great robot and drive team. I am surprised nobody picked them! Might have been a bit of trouble for us. Good luck at the LA regional.

Team 359 would like to thank everyone who participated in the competition and the many friends we saw and new friends made.
We've been to many finals over the years and finally got over the hump with the great partners of 100 and 294. I waited 8 years since our last regional win.
We felt that picking 294 was a steal considering how late they went.

Thanks to 668, 1388, 1538, and 1717 for a fun weekend during week 1.

**sorry for the delayed post. We just got back from the AZ regional this afternoon.** I need to sleep for a couple of days.:D

Thanks Team 359 for bringing the Aloha spirit to San Diego - always great to see the team!

Regarding the business plan, it is - and always has been - the responsibility of the team to highlight their business plan and provide it to the judges if they are interested in competing for the Entrepreneurship award. When the judges interview the teams they are looking at the various attributes for 15 different awards; they don't just come interview for Entrepreneurship only. And the judges did interview your team multiple times on both Friday and Saturday, but apparently no from the team brought up the business plan until Saturday.

So to be effectively considered for that award, the team should proactively address the biz plan with the judges and make sure they have a copy. That's part of being an entrepreneur as well - making sure your message gets out!

Jeff,
Thanks for the word of advice.
Actually, the issue came about when our Business Plan student team asked the judges about presenting it, and being repeatedly told they were here for the robot and someone else was going to come around.
Another issue was that when the stadium and pits opened at 8:00am, it took so long for everyone to get in, since the stadium personnel were checking bags for outside food and drinks. By the time our team got to the pit, 2 judges already left at 8:10am. I saw them leave since I got in quite early.

Redemption came when we won it the following week in AZ.;)
