Don't let the IRI committee fool you they know the rule changes they are making for the 2010 game, they just obviously can't tell us at this point :yikes: .

It's a fruit game this year.

It's another Havabanana production!

Why are the IRI dates so early?

Chris Fultz
21-11-2009, 05:46
We set them based on when the gym is available and on the availability of some of the key volunteers and leaders.

LNHS gyms are very busy in the summer with several camps and other activities, so we have to fit into their other programs.

Also, this year some key leaders are not available at the end of July, and it would have made for a difficult event without them!

The leadership team could grow a few... leaders that is.

Do you know if those dates are confirmed yet?

Chris,

Seconded. Team 3266 is eager to attend this invitational.

Team 980 will apply.

Is July 16-17 confirmed yet? (My lead software student is "negotiating" travel plans with his parents' regarding their annual family trip to Russia!)

We've been invited before and never attended due to conflicts.
It looks like the year we will be able to attend, IF we get an invite.

I need to find out about the dates soon, hopefully, since there's a Modest Mouse concert that day...

2791 is definitely considering applying. I'm not sure on 1714, but I'll be there...

You've won three regionals this year. I think it's pretty safe to assume they'll let you in. ;)

Uh oh Glenn! Sean's affirmation is kinda like George Costanza's instincts. The opposite is usually true. In spite of the handicap, good luck to 359 with the invite process!

I guess in the meantime, we'll talk to 368 and get the logistics and cost to do such an event, just in case. I believe they did well as an alliance captain in 2008 (the only year they attended).
I love the timing as its right after I get back from a tech conference in Denver.

And about the whole talent show thing, oh god, I got absolutely NO skills. I cant even do the Hula Dance right and I'm not wearing a grass skirt. ;)

YES. These dates are confirmed.

We are planning some changes to make the event better in 2010.
More details soon!

I'm already more than likely going to be singing...I can't sing (yet). I don't think that anyone really cares ;)

Actually, if you sing as well as Karthik, you will be excused from singing at the talent show.

I was tempted to post the YouTube of his last IRI performance, but I realized how cruel that would be to everyone.

I'm now glad I didn't buy Modest Mouse tickets.

I'll be there. 1714 or 2791? Guess you'll have to wait and see. (Assuming either get in, of course.)

There was more than one? (2006, IIRC, "Tomorrow" with a bunch of crazy Canuks :p)

After seeing and (trying not to) hear(ing) that one, I'm surprised that a reprise was allowed, if one was. I understand that one was removed from YouTube by the person who uploaded it; I'm guessing that it was to protect eardrums around the world.

Hopefully I can make my way up there this year. I missed IRI last year and that was the first one since 2004. IRI is by far one of the most well organized event.

... oh and it's also packed with the best teams/robots in FIRST.

Darn, another conflict just popped up last night. Guess I'll have to miss it again. Well, at least I don't have to have the temptation of going to IRI vs studying for final exams.

July 15 - LADY GAGA

I was just wondering if anyone would be attending the Lady Gaga Concert the day BEFORE IRI? Maybe we could all meet up for some food before the show :)

I'm totally up for food, depending on when I get down there (my travel plans are still a WIP). This has the potential to be really awesome if more people are going.

With the date firm, I think it's time to start planning out my next use of vacation days...can someone just diagnose Robo-itis as a legitimate disease so I can use sick days instead? ;)

Moderation note: I changed the thread title since the dates have been confirmed.

I am looking forward to attending (as a volunteer or with 2791), either way, I'll be there.

BTW...is there a place for me to park my 5th wheel at the school? Or possibly at someone's house that is fairly close to the school?

J SMITH
15-04-2010, 12:39
That shouldn't be a problem--if so we can have you park over at McKenzie. The administration will probably say it is ok, but are not liable for any damages that occur. I will verify and post closer to July.

Applications usually open up around May 1st, on the IRI site (http://indianaroboticsinvitational.org/2010_IRI/).

Fultz may correct me if I am wrong here.

My team's thinking the same thing. These Shaker kids see these Michigan and Indiana teams and they say "bring it on". With three months of continuous improvement, who knows?.

I'll likely be there, even if my team isn't.

But, I'd love to compete.

Hey, does 28 feet/second sound cool on a 6WD chassis?

Looking for a fun event on your way to the IRI?
http://www.winamacpowershow.com/
http://www.winamacpowershow.com/map.htm

This is an antique tractor show and antique farm machinery show in one of the smallest towns in Inidiana. It is exactly 1/2 way between Chicago and Indianapolis (2 hours north of Indy). If you are into mechanical controls, steam engines, and saw mills... You will have a good time.

This year's feature is Minneapolis Moline (yellow tractors).

If you need a guide, ask anyone in a bright blue shirt for Isaac Rife. I will more than likely be working the buzz-saw or off-loading boards at the saw-mill.

Shoot me a PM if you plan on stopping by.
