Bill put up this note: http://frcdirector.blogspot.com/2009/11/if-you-already-know-youre-going-to.html

If you're going, hotel reservations open up in about a week.

OK, having never been to CMP before, and I am planning to go this year, why do we have to wait for hotel reservations to open up?

Can't I make a reservation with a hotel in the area anytime I want to? Or are there special hotels to stay in, and special rates?

There's special rates available for FIRST teams, if you book through FIRST.

It's a package deal that includes tickets to the Wrap Party after Finals on Saturday night.

OK, thanks. I'm not going as part of the team, so I am on my own for hotel reservations. What hotels do the teams normally stay in?

Omni, which is right across the street, Marriott Marquis, Westin, and some other downtown ones within walking distance. The other options are out by the airport and use a MARTA pass to get to the event. Downtown hotels typically don't have continental breakfast; the Marquis has a bridge to the Peachtree shopping center, which has several places serving breakfast.

Just to warn you Richard, I've tried before, and you pretty much cannot book a hotel within city limits without being with FIRST. The booking company really makes it a challenge...

Good point. Last season, I paid my own way, but because of my "Starwood Preferred Guest" membership, the Westin was able to put me in a room without any issue. So, if you're a member of [insert your hotel program], make sure you check with them if you can't get a room via FIRST.

We have never booked through FIRST or their surrogate and have had no trouble getting blocks of rooms in downtown hotels.

We booked rooms at the Embassy Suites a month or two ago, since we got tired of having to be lucky enough to be one of the first few callers the second the registration period opens.

Last Year we stayed at the Days Inn as a cost containment measure. I would recommend not making reservations at the Days Inn. The continental breakfast was the highlight of our stay, and only because it was included as part of the reservation. The hotel was much farther than was originally noted, and when trying to cash AMEX Traveler's Checks the hotel would not cash more than $50.00 checks, although I could cash upto $300.00 at a time.

It seemed like those who stayed at the Omni Hotel had a very enjoyable time.

The Days Inn is closer to the Dome than many of the Steele-arranged hotels. Unless you're not talking of the one on Baker St.
