According to Rule <G45> Robots may not control ball direction with active mechanisms above the bumper zone.

My team was tossing around the idea to have a plate that was raised with a pneumatic cylinder to block incoming shots but still allow us to move through the tunnels. My question is even if the plate was currently static would that violate this rule?

Certainly this is a question for the GDC. My opinion here is completely worthless at competition.

An active plate that blocks shots would be illegal if it was above the bumper zone. A passive plate ("static") probably wouldn't. Key word is "Active".

<G45> Active BALL control - ROBOTS may not control BALL direction with active MECHANISMS above the BUMPER ZONE. Violation: PENALTY.
