before I click on the provided link, I'd like to check the validity of a PM I just received ... it says its from "ForumModerators" and its asking me to click a link
Dear, Soibhain287;Janet_R_1517;Atlas;Ziaholic;Michelle69 2!
A virus alert was noticed on your computer.
We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately:
I removed the link from the quote in case it's bogus.
If a real moderator wants a copy of this PM, send me a message I'll forward it.

I hope that the other folks in the TO field are aware of the risk before they click.
there was also a read-receipt on the message, so it might be traceable if it's malicious
Totally bogus:

It's pretty obviously not legitimate. VBulletin moderators don't need to make duplicate accounts to PM people, and they have no way of knowing if you have a virus.

Read receipts are tied to the user that sent them, so all that would tell the mods is that user ForumModerators didn't uncheck the little box that said to say if the message was received. Don't worry, they can check the IP of the user, though that won't do much good.
...I know too much about VB. I should take a break from the Internet.
Got one as well. To be honest I'm suprised that the admins didn't just forbid useage of "moderator"/"Admin" in usernames through the adminCP.
FORUMMODERATORS has been banned. If more crop up please let us know the username so that we can deal with it.
