Got a question for everyone here... Has anyone else had problems with their Jaguar fans? I did a quick search and didn't see anything specifically about this...

Our practice bot went over the bump pretty hard today, and from what i've been told, one of the fans started making a loud grinding sound. Unfortunately, they didn't tell me until the meeting was over, the Jaguars were cool, and I didn't have time to run it until the fans were going again. Apparently the buzz would go away after tapping the top of the Jag (somewhat hard), but come back again the next time the robot bounces.

Anyways, we suspect the fan blades got knocked off their bearings. We'll be opening it up and taking a look at it at our Monday meeting, but I figured i'd post and see if anyone else has seen this.

Madison from 488 reported similar results from a bump test early in the season here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80999&highlight=488)

I'm a fan of jaguars. Oh wait, that's not what you meant. :)

This test is exactly why I'm not comfortable with Jaguars this year.

The fans in some jaguars have been known to crack. We received one which had broken in shipping. Other notable mentors have also reported on their findings in other posts.

While it is very unlikely for the fan to come off its bearings, it is not that difficult for it to have come loose from its mounting. Hard to describe, but once you see it you will understand - just pop it back in and make sure it is secure. Normally it will hold pretty well.

Is this fan issue reported here in regards to a Grey Jaguar or a Black Jaguar? (or both)

What about brown ones?

Our issue is with one gray Jaguar on our practice robot. We have yet to use a black Jaguar while actually driving - our programming team will be working on updating firmware and such tonight so we can use the CAN bus, at which point a black Jaguar will be used on both the practice and competition robots (along with 3 gray Jaguars to complete the drive train).

Stay tuned... I'll be taking the offending Jaguar apart tonight and taking pictures of whatever went wrong.
