View Full Version : Autodesk upload issues?

Anyone else having issues getting their animation to upload to autodesk? I'm getting very frustrated. It just sat their uploading for the past hour and then just logged me out.
I'm so ready for this part to be over.

You are not the only one!!! Uploading this year is a pain. It took forever for us to find where to upload and then once we finally filled everything out, and uploaded it, we recieved and email saying what we submitted was wrong. It changed our program to AutoCad and we selected Autodesk 3Ds Max, I do not know what is going on!!!!!!!

We got ours uploaded, but the interface was sort of difficult - finding your team in a dropdown list of thousands.
I never understand the question about does your anim contain audio.
Yes, I answered (narration) It then insists I have a pdf with authorization (even though it was us).
I ended up choosing no audio - I hope that doesn't confuse them.

When all is finally uploaded, you don't get a screen that says completed or thank you, etc. The screen simply goes blank (with "Done" in the browser taskbar).

I thought it had broke... but it did in fact upload. Had I checked my email, I would have known that before I uploaded again!

How long did it take for you to get an email said it was uploaded? Would like to not submit it again if I don't need to.

I got it within 5 minutes..

We've been having issues with uploading the animation as well, we've tried submitting a few times, but up until now it had just been "loading" or saving our gallery for extended periods of time ending up with the page timing out,(internet explorer gave us the message that it couldn't display "this" page as if it had lost connection) this last time we just tried we were logged out instead.

I got ours uploaded but came across a new dilemma. There are notices plastered all over the website saying the animation is due today. But in the email I received confirming successful upload it says we have until the 25th (1 week from tomorrow). We already uploaded ours but is this legit? And if so, can we re-upload the animation with changes?

Sunshine
17-02-2010, 17:02
I believe the 25th due date is for CAD only. I believe that is a misprint for the animations.

We got the confirmation email. But how do you know it was really successful without seeing it. I'm surprised that you can not go somewhere to look.

I also thought the security was week. What would prevent a misguided student from loading a YouTube video for another team? It looked too easy.

carpenma
17-02-2010, 17:06
As far as security. I think you have to be confirmed as a member of the team on the Autodesk FIRST site to upload for that team right? And I could have sworn the page that comes up after uploading completes has a link to see submissions.

Two questions (never done this before):

1) Can we start submitting the animation and follow up with the jpg. and storeyboard?

2) We read that detailed submission information is on the Education Community section of www.autodesk/FIRST, but we could find no such instructions on that website. Do we just press Submit, find our team, and that's it?

Thanks,
tw

Its all in one go I believe. I doubt they'd let you do it in multiple uploads but I did ours altogether just in case.

Is anyone else having issues with having this message at the bottom of their screen: "Saving gallery, please wait...". We've had that message at the bottom of our page for a while and the loading bar is making no headway(stuck at 0%), I suppose it's probably from all the stress being put on the server due to submissions but if anyone has any help it would be appreciated.

carpenma
17-02-2010, 17:40
It just does that as it uploads. Mine said that and "Waiting for student.autodesk.com" in the information bar through the entire process

Sorry, I believe that you have to do it all at once.

My team is having an issue because we have no idea if it uploaded correctly. We tried it once, then it gave us a page could not be displayed error and sent no e-mail, and now it says that "we cannot submit at this time". Could one of you teams that has already submitted try to go back to the submission page to see if it says that for you? If it does, then we may be able to assume that it does that when you have already submitted, instead of just locking US out.

My team is trying to submit but we are getting the same message so I believe this is happening for everyone.

Edit: The form appears to be working again.

Ours is working again too, we're trying to resubmit now.

rastermon
17-02-2010, 19:19
I was able re-submit ours. (due to not knowing if it succeeded)
If past years are any guidance, you were able to update or re-upload your submissions until the deadline.

The minimal feedback I got was.. (only in the status bar)
Waiting for student....
Saving Gallery...
Done.

Ecohen694
17-02-2010, 19:19
I think it may have worked, but we are not recieving a confirmation e-mail so we have no way of knowing. Is this happening to you guys? Also, is there any other way to tell?

rastermon
17-02-2010, 19:24
Are you checking the correct email?
It should be sending to the email account of the person logged in to firstbase.autdesk.com when it was submitted.

I'm completely sure. My e-mail is also my user ID.

We've been trying to submit for about half an hour now. Still won't submit; it times out each time. We're not sure how to fix it, so we'll keep submitting. We took a video showing it trying to submit about half an hour ago, and so we have proof if they have any problems that we were indeed trying to submit.

Anyone else having problems tonight?

Ecohen694
17-02-2010, 20:18
We're having the same exact problem, we've notified our area's FIRST representatives with timestamped e-mails, uploaded to our own servers so that we have time information as proof that we've finished and are trying to submit. We've also contacted Autodesk itself, but they will get back to us in "one business day" which is hardly useful.

We are having the same exact problem. We've been trying to upload our animation since 2:30 HST(4:30pm PST) but the Autodesk website wouldn't let us. And now, submission entry is closed... :(

Is there anyway for us to submit our animation?

I would just keep trying to submit; also email frcteams@usfirst.org and explain the problem.

Good luck.

No point in emailing Autodesk... I think they provide the software. Not sure they have anything to do with animation; at least not at regionals.

Robotics ends in about an hour; hope it submits by then.

Alrighty; it's now saying we're not allowed to submit.

Not sure what to do except wait for an email from FIRST, I hope.

Autodesk controls the submission process though. Even if it doesnt help its worth a shot haha. ill do anything now to get this to work...

I just hit the back button whenever it says "this webpage is unavailable" but i doubt that even if it did go through it would be accepted because it would have gone through after deadline.. still no reply from FIRST. If you get anything keep us posted :)

rjbman
17-02-2010, 21:37
I had been doing that. But now we lost the page; I'll let you know. I probably will go home... nothing else I can do right now. Hopefully they're going to email me back. I will keep you updated.

Anyone else having the problem of it not submitting?

wsansewjs

It died on me. This has been so frustrating to get this submission squared away for my Animatos. Hopefully, I will contact my FIRST representative and get to the bottom of this.

Again, same issues as before. Now that we're locked out there is very little we can do, but I'm hopeful that FIRST will extend or fix the upload system because they did push the deadline back 2 days because of another Chief Delphi thread already. I'm sure they'll give us some sort of assistance. Also, has anyone else noticed the general bad design of the firstbase website? It's been frustrating me all season.

Yea i recall server problems last year but it wasnt this bad where it didnt get uploaded. I agree, the website was so strange this year. If anyone from FIRST ever reads this I AM BEGGING YOU please extend the deadline. I started my upload at 4:50 PST (before deadline) and have been trying to submit ever since (it is now 7:32 PST).

Good luck to everyone else in your efforts to submit and good luck to all the teams that got it submitted :)

Yep, my team started trying to upload at around 2:50 PST. We essentially tried OVER and OVER for 3 hours to get it in, and after it hit 100% uploaded the site would give a "can not be displayed" error and then a refresh put us back to the login screen. We may have it uploaded already, but we haven't recieved any confirmation.

I am having the EXACT same problem. It says "uploading (100%)" then "waiting for students.autodesk.com" then "this page is unavailable". I can hit back and re-submit but i get the same problem. I am pretty scared that my sub-team did all of that work for nothing. I guess theres nothing left to do now except pray, send some emails, and go eat dinner :/

I know this is worth nothing right now, but for next year, anticipate the server strain and upload a day or two early. Every year the server gets hammered, and people have problems. I know there's never enough time to perfect everything in your animation, but give yourself a deadline ahead of the real one. You can always upload a better version the next day if you have time.

We were planning on doing this on Saturday but did it Sunday. Combustion was adding one white frame to the end of our animation - even though everything was black. Drove us crazy! We finally fixed in Quicktime Pro. Anyway, if we ran into that problem in the last hour before the deadline, we would have been hosed.

Just so everyone knows, Autodesk runs the animation/inventor competitions, and they are in charge of both the submission and judging processes. FIRST is not directly involved with either part of the process, other than in an oversight/coordination role. So any communications should be directed toward Autodesk. Your FIRST regional director may be able to provide you with appropriate points of contact, or may be able to forward your notes on to the right person. But FIRST will be the pass-through for the communications, and not the ones that make any decisions about submissions.

See, we were nearly ready to submit Sunday (after MANY program crashes) and then we realized we needed .mov... so we spent two days trying to convince 3ds max to render properly in .mov. And so we finally fixed it Wednesday at about 4:30 PST (6:30 CST) and we tried to submit it.

Still haven't gotten a reply from FIRST.

I just received this reply from Autodesk. I really regret not checking my emails earlier today now. I wish it was PST instead of CST. stinking time zones :( I am still going to try to upload mine because its better than nothing. Good luck everyone i really hope this helps :D

"Hello,

We are aware of the issues some teams experienced and we are sorry your team has run into trouble. We are finding that the time it took to upload was very long and teams either did not realize it was still uploading and started clicking around terminating the upload, or there were internet/network issues or restrictions that caused them to see the page not found timeout page. We are working to accommodate teams to ensure they still have a way to submit.

If you would like to still submit for inclusion in the competition ....you may

1)Place the answers to the below questions onto a word document

Team:
Email:
Regional Event:
School Name:
Address:
City, State:
Postal Code:
Contact and School Phone:
Team Bio:
Is there audio?
Is the audio Original?
Name of the song?
Do you have a consent form to use the audio?
Name of your design:
Design Gallery description of the design/team:

2) Zip up your files and the answers to the questions on a word document in one zip file....please be sure to name the file with Your team name and number
3)Submit the Zip file at http://files.dcheetah.com attention FIRST Support.
4) Submit by 5 PM CST today February 18th ...

We will submit your entry for you.

We hate to see teams spend so much time on their work to be penalized due to network issues or upload problems :) Good luck !!!
