Bumper Zone?

Bumper Zone allows us to put our bumpers in an 6" gap (between 10" and 16" above the floor) and bumpers are almost 5". Are we allowed to put a little bit of our bumper in the bumper zone or do we have to put the whole bumper in the bumper zone. Because if we are allowed put the bumpers 1" out the bumper zone we will be put the bumpers 1" higher or lower?

A. BUMPERS must provide complete protection of the entire FRAME PERIMETER of the ROBOT (i.e. BUMPERS must wrap entirely around the ROBOT). The BUMPERS must be located entirely within the BUMPER ZONE when the ROBOT is standing normally on a flat floor, and must remain there (i.e. the BUMPERS must not be articulated or designed to move outside of the BUMPER ZONE).

If you make it to spec, you will not be able to. Bumpers are 5" tall; the bumper zone is 6" tall.

No, because the bumpers are less than 5" tall, it would be impossible to fill the entire area of 10" to 16" off the ground.

So for example if you have a kicker in the front of your robot that has a high loft angle, you may attach the bumpers so that way the top of the bumper is right at the 16" mark, making the bottom of your bumpers somewhere around the 11" mark. The 10" to 16" bumper zone is exactly what it is, it is a zone to put the entirety of the bumpers within.

D. Each BUMPER segment must be backed by a piece of ¾-inch thick by 5-inch tall piece of
plywood. Each piece of BUMPER backing must be a minimum of 6 inches long. Small
clearance pockets and/or access holes in the BUMPER backing are permitted, as long as
they do not significantly affect the structural integrity of the BUMPER.
