It's that time of year again. Fill in the blanks if you know who is webcasting the event. NASA has yet to publish their 2010 regional webcasts page.

Week 1

Washington, DC - NASA again?

Week 4

Buckeye - Team 48 - link TBD

Week 3 - Silicon Valley - NASA

Week 5 (Mid-Week) - Sacramento - NASA

I remember part of the Connect a Million Minds Project was to broadcast some of these events. It might be useful to call up your local TWC Customer Service Center and see if they will indeed be broadcasting any events that we may not be aware of.

As a FIRST community over the next few years, I'd love to see us get EVERY FRC event (at least the regular season) webcast, and posted on TBA.

For the last few years Discovery Channel has webcast GTR (but only to Canadian IPs), but nobody recorded the stream, including Discovery themselves, so it never made it to TBA.

So is it traditional for a team to take up the "webcasting mantel" for their home regional?

I was just wondering on behalf of a second year team (Team 3006) going to a first year regional (Utah Regional).

Sort of. If you're interested, http://robotics.arc.nasa.gov/events/webcasting.php is a good link to go to.

If you can't webcast, see if you can get some form of recording device to the event and record matches that way, then get them to The Blue Alliance.

As of now , GTR will only be webcast for Elims on Discovery.

I have the equipment and probably enough students to help me webcast it and record it. I'll see what I can pull together for a GTR webcast.

I won't be at Waterloo until possibly Saturday, so I likely won't set one up.

For people interested in setting up a webcast look at these old threads about it: from 2008 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63884) and 2009 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70600)

I think someone was messing with the bit rate, I saw it jump as high as 4k, and even 2k, now it's back down to a reasonable 200 something. As I was typing this they upped it again, to 755kb/s, but it is stable here now. I think they are still trying to get everything set up and finalized.

A cool thing I found last night for those of you with dual-screen systems:
http://lifehacker.com/5419028/keep-flash-videos-in-full-screen-on-dual-monitors

If you are watching a Flash feed (Ustream, etc.), this allows you to put the fullscreen flash mode on one screen, and keep working on the other screen without interrupting full-screen mode.

This is tested and working right now, as I watch the Duluth regional on Ustream.

For KC, Windows Media Player simply refuses to open .asf files. The MORE.net guy was in the pit area, I might ask him about it tomorrow.
Anyone know where I might get a codec (or another media player) for .asf files? A quick search didn't turn up much. This problem happened to me last year, too.

EDIT: VLC Media Player opens them just fine (even has a Firefox add-in!), but only the streamed (which is over now) feed works, not the stored qualification matches.

On a quick side note. Does anyone have a rough guess as to how long until TBA gets videos online?

This is typically dependent on how quickly a team archiving the footage (assuming there is one) gets the video cut and uploaded to the TBA FTP. After it is on the TBA FTP those guys are usually great about getting it posted.

If the video is being parsed in real-time during archiving, it could be uploaded and posted within a day or two. Most likely it will take longer, usually at least a few days to a week.

1114 might just be back to their 2008 level of dominance.

In the match I saw them in this morning (Practice) they scored 14 balls and then attempted to lift but didn't grab the bar correctly...

Also, they shoot three balls from the far zone and then climb the bump into the mid zone... In Auto.

I havent even SEEN it yet and I'm scared. Anybody know when they'll be on the field next?

I can't tell... I was woken up by a text telling me about their 12-7 match. (The one where they scored 14 points on their own.) I immediately got the web-cast going. Sadly... It apears they may be on lunch break... I'm just seeing the powerpoint...

They sort of scored most of the other 7 points for the other alliance aswell.

I'm trying to watch Wisconsin in VLC, but I keep on getting this error:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'mms://sargasso-3.arc.nasa.gov/wisconsin'. Check the log for details.

So, then I go to the log (Tools >> Messages) and this is what was in it:

access_mms error: failed to open a connection (tcp)
access_mms error: failed to open a connection (tcp)
access_mms error: cannot connect to server
access_mms error: cannot connect to sargasso-3.arc.nasa.gov:80
main error: open of `mms://sargasso-3.arc.nasa.gov/wisconsin' failed: could not create access

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Edit: Never mind. I reinstalled it (I somehow had 0.9.9 still), and it got whatever exception to the firewall it needed done right this time. The video seems to be glitchy during the matches, but it shows the sponsors very smoothly and clearly. :p

That's what I heard! :D I heard they scored something like 9 for their own team and 5 for the other! :D 14 points scored by one team... Well, I would say I'm surprised, but it is Simbotics. Okay, I'm surprised. :yikes:

The webcast for GTR on Saturday afternoon is the following link. It is provided by Discovery Channel.

All DSL feeds for GTR are provided by Bell Canada and Team 188.

I don't think it's being webcasted, and if so the link isn't up on the NASA website.

I don't know what they're doing on the west coast to send back such beautiful feeds, but it sure would be nice if the rest of the country could match it! :)

Very great pleasure watching the western regionals!

On the UStream page for MSC, it asks for a password. Does anyone know the password?

Thanks! We've been working with NASA to get the stream out to everyone. Hopefully next year we'll be able cover more events than just SVR and Sac Reg [:

Sorry, we had some troubles with our original plan for archiving and streaming in different resolutions/bitrates.

The feeds should have been up for the last few hours of practice and should be shortly after the building opens tomorrow morning (8:00-8:15 or so), showing sponsors or the Breakaway logo until opening ceremonies.

If either event is not up by 8:45 or if either event cuts out during the day please PM me, I will try to remember to check my phone throughout the day for emails. If you know you will be watching the feed frequently you can PM me tonight or tomorrow for my cell # and you can send me a text if things go down.

EDIT: I will try to get a post up in this thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83675), if we have a known issue with either stream that we are working on.
