Well, i'm almost afraid to ask but here goes. Will there be more seating this year?

Yes there will be more seating this year at Kettering. Taller bleachers have been ordered to increase the seating capacity.

That's good news. Now if they could just have a shuttle bus from that far parking lot. Last year it was rain, this year could be snow and ice.

West Michigan and Traverse City have very good seating. I wish FiM would move either of those buildings closer to Waterford so that I wouldn't have so far to drive.

Code Red will be at Traverse City. Maybe they liked the seating better there:D

That's great to see that there is better seating this year!

Also, will they be opening up the upper track for spectators/scouters? I feel that it would be helpful for the scouters to be up there to free up the stands.

And who is excited?!? Only 6 more days :)

I'm EXCITED!! i'll continue the countdown, Only 5 more days ;)

p.s.

it would be nice to set up the track. Having an high view of the field is much better for observing other robots.

This aea was reserved for scouts per team last year. I think they allowed.

The plan right now is to allow 4 scouts per team and 1 photo pass. Bleachers up there is just not an option, they would damage the track. I'll be able to give you a better idea of the seating around Wednesday.

Would it be possible to get any more scouting passes for our team? We have 6 scouts per match, and only allowing 4 up there at once would lead to a disadvantage for some.

I still enjoy the fact that we get more than one student up there at a time! If I remember correctly from last year only press passes could go up there on the track.

Then you are going to HATE what I have to update to that statement. Due to traffic flow concerns this number has been cut to 3 scout passes per team. This is completely out of our control. Now, I would suggest perhaps working with another team and seeing if they might be willing to give you scouting passes in exchange for scouting information. Perhaps ask around 397, I am sure they would be willing.

Also, since someone is bound to ask, wireless will be available. The check in station should know the password if not come see me at the Kettering Information booth and I will be more than willing to give you the login info.

I have no additional information about seating at the time. As I said they have promised more seating and I am sure they will do their best.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there. Come see me at the booth if you are interested in KU or just wanna talk.

It would disadvantage three of your scouts to scout from the bleachers?

I would think allowing your team extra passes, or teams swapping passes, would disadvantage the teams who adhered to the procedure.

The procedure says that 3 scouting passes are given to each team. Swapping passes is in no way not adhering to the procedure, it is making good use of the resources of your team.

Now, if your team feels that it is "not adhering to the procedure" feel free to not do it. No one is going to stop you.

Can anybody post an update on the tournament? The FIRST website is returning a bunch of "page not found" errors when I try to view the standings.

Also, anybody hearing any sound from the webcast?

Kettering was great. Congratulations to all teams. They were all winners. We were finally able to try our six wheel drive suspension and all went better than expected, we were pushing like a tank.

In that case, let me lend you my stickers and badge so you can get into USA-TARDEC and we'll see fast we end up talking to men in dark glasses.

I have no problem with tradng passes, but I was upset with teams going up on the trak and droping passes down to other team mates. This is no in the spirit of F.I.R.S.T.

Anyone have the WF nominee list? Be nice to have their names up some place.

John,

For Michigan or for all of the Regional Events?

The only names I can post are the Michigan Districts that have already been played. Gail and Pam have the entire list of WFFA nominees for Michigan.

Just districts. Is there a page on the FiM site? If not, it would be nice if there was.

We don't post before an event just in case the team wants it to be a surprise for the mentor (like ours does). I have no problem if Gail or Pam want to post the names on FiM after the events.

Minor difference, one is a public event that just wants to make sure there are not too many people in a place to avoid it being a safety hazard. The other is a company.

Or the dropping of ANYTHING from the track... or the throwing of anything more than 2 feet... or the running. Some teams need to reign in their kids.

Posting the WFFA Nominees on the FiM web site is a great idea and it could go on the results page from the events.

Let me just say from everyone at Team 910 that Kettering was a blast! Sure there were field problems with the counter, and twice we had shakey control/radio issues, but that's somewhat to be expected at the first event. Overall, the queuers were very friendly, the volunteers nice, the judges and refs VERY easy to work with and talk to, and the competition quite good for week one! Hey, teams there set and broke records for country-wide high scores more than once!

Thanks to 67 for picking us. If we had traded #1 and #2 spots, you were our first pick too! We made a fantastic team and we set a new world-wide high-score with 15 points - all balls too!

Team 70 - What a super pick! Both Hot and we had you on our list and kept praying nobody would pick you and it was a LONG wait as the serpentine made its way all the way down and back. We were thrilled to see you available to be our partners and you did everything we KNEW you would. Stellar defense and great zone control!

To our opponents, 33, 894 and 2619 you were a great #2 alliance! That long shot of 2619 was deadly and 33, you were just a mad scoring machine! Way to go and what a great clean match. Like Jim always says to me, "Is this FUN or WHAT?"

One last thing I'd like to point out is how FIRST is so different than any other competition out there. Here's an example... Team 33 - our opponents in the finals loaned us a 3 turn pot to put on our robot. We loaned our lead programmer to team 894 to help them get their robot working because they had no working code. So, both of us helped each other out. Is that coopertition and gracious professionalism or what? What a super example to set for out students... Yeah, it's great to win, but even greater to help others!

For thoes of you who think this game is boring you should of been at kettering, because the level of play in the elims. were way above what a week one competition usually is . Great job to the #2 alliance 2619,33,894 for a hard fought battle for the title as it went to a rubber match. Thanks to 67 THE HOT TEAM for picking us ,you guys are allways fun to play with! Thanks to 70 for playing great D and stopping there scoring plus clearing there zone. Great job to all teams and the whole crew for a great event!!!!!!!
