Has anyone heard about judging this year's animation? I know the teams are supposed to go online to vote for others in their regional, but I can't find where we can do this. I have tried searching the Autodesk site but must not be looking in the right place. Some team members are leaving Wed. afternoon, which doesn't leave much time for voting for this week's regional. Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

In the past, they open it up for voting the first day of the regional... Thursday. I don't know specifics for this year.

The judging is open as of tonight but when we log in it only shows our animation - it doesn't show anyone else's submission. Does anyone know how to get to those submitted to your particular regional competition?
Thanks - and good luck!

By the way - Hi Carrie! I'm with the Oregon RoboHawks! We appreciate you guys quite a bit!:)

When I searched for the regional that we had signed up for, our animation wasn't listed. When I looked at the regional we had gone to in the past, 2 of our previous animations were listed. Could be interesting....

Robohawks -- we are so glad that you guys are doing great! Can't wait to see you in Chicago!

where is this site?

Look at design showcase.
When I click on 2010 animations, it only brings up ours. If I click on all designs, and then search for the regionals, I get the above results.

Have you guy received an email that voting is open? I have not yet...

I received the following email yesterday afternoon:

Peer Judging is now open for the 2010 Animation Entries!

As the individual who submitted your team's animation entry you are now eligible to view the other entries for the Regional, and cast your team’s vote for the one you think deserves to win. As you consider your vote, be sure to refer to the scoring criteria so that you are using the same guide that our volunteer professional judges will use when they judge. Click here to review the criteria.

Each team that has submitted an animation for the Regional has one vote. We encourage you to review all the Regional entries and discuss them with others on your team before you vote. You have plenty of time to do that because you can view them all now in the Design Showcase . You may login, view the entries, and cast your team’s vote anytime before the cut-off of 12:00 Midnight Pacific Standard Time on the Thusday of the week of your event. See the list of judging cut-off dates by event below for your even'ts cut-off.

<table with all the regionals listed here - couldn't cut & paste nicely>

Voting is easy! Click here to access the voting page for your event and follow the steps below.

Right Click on the name of the entry and select Open in New window, to see the Design Showcase detail page for that design. (For Mac users just open the link in a new browser window)
Review the images and click on the MOV file to view the animation in Quicktime.
Close that window and view the next entry the same way.
After you have viewed all entries, click the "Vote" button next to the entry your team has agreed to vote for.
Note: You may change your vote anytime before the cut-off of the voting for your event. Remember, the cut-off is 12:00 Midnight, Pacific Standard Time on Thursday of the week of your event.

Once voting closes for your event the votes will be tallied and the Regional winner will be announced at the event. Please note that only the person who submitted the entry for your team can access this page and vote. We invite you to look at all the great animations submitted this year in the Design Showcase .

If you have any questions or concerns please contact us directly at firstsupport@dcheetah.com .

Remember, prior to voting check the Award Criteria .

Good Luck Teams!

-Autodesk FIRST Support Team

However when I click on the link after "Voting is Easy ... Click here" - the page just says "Peer voting is not available at this time."

I've sent an email to the support address listed there ... but no reply as of 10am pacific today.

When I log in all I can get to is our own submission - thank heavens that appears ok - but I can't see anything else except a bunch of submissions that are just design showcase photos - not having anything to do with the competition. Strange.....:ahh:

There is a lack of distinction between FRC content, and general Autodesk content, which has confused me all season.
I see the same thing - only our team's animation, or everything under the sun. As a mentor, and submitter, I have not received the email. Our regional is in 2 days!

I am seeing the same thing. I recieved an email from autodesk, but when i click the link all i see is our animation. And when i go to the design section, i see a mix of things from last year, 2008, and a lot of other non-related-to-FRC things. hmmm...

Edit: It said in my e-mail that You may login, view the entries, and cast your team’s vote anytime before the cut-off of 12:00 Midnight Pacific Standard Time on the Thusday of the week of your event. See the list of judging cut-off dates by event below for your even'ts cut-off.

So, this thursday for all first week events the votes are due at midnight pacific time.

Here's what I got from AutoDesk just now:

"When accessing the Design Showcase you should see several tabs at the top. Select the tab for either the Animation Competition or the 3D Design Competition to see the designs in that category. Then simply use the number buttons at the bottom of the page to see the various pages of entries.

If you wish to open an entry to view it click on the name of the entry and you will be directed to the Design detail page of that entry.

Thanks so much and good luck!"

It didn't help very much.

I just got an email that had a link to the regional where we could vote, but there are only 2 teams and you aren't to vote for yourself !?! Then when I tried to look at the other team's animation, it said it was blank or deleted.
Still not sure how it works yet... Sent another email :)

I just experienced the same. The support team sent me a different link that took me to the regional in which we were entered ... only two teams (us and another) and when I went to view the other team info, it claimed the entry had been deleted. Sent reply inquiries as well. This site is beginning to try my patience. :(

Yay!
I received the email notice, and the page actually displays all 3 competing animations. (too bad only 3 entered in our regional)
They must have fixed something....

I think they have been working very hard to get things to work the way they are supposed to! Our links are working now also.

I also received an updated email with a "working" link - however like the previous post talking about the lack of participants, I too am concerned that there is only one other team (aside from ours) in the voting pool. This is the Los Angeles regional where traditionally there have been a good number of teams competing. So ...

I've asked tech support to clarify the lack of participants this year ... did teams that did not follow all the rules/requirements to a tee get bumped from the voting pool? Is there still a glitch that's not getting teams entries assigned to the proper regional? If only two teams compete, and you can't vote for yourself, is it a tie (w/ Autodesk tie-break)??

I'll continue posting as the support team answers my flury of questions.

Cheers!

UPDATE - After trading a couple of emails with the support team, here's what I've found out:

1. The system is 100% up and running, and what you see is what you get.

2. In the Los Angeles regional, there are in fact only two entries, ours and team 1515 ... my concern is that I have seen at least three other team entries showcased here on CD and on YouTube ... but support team has confirmed that if they didn't upload or check in with them, they're out!

3. No teams were turned away unless their rendered video was unviewable (only one team had this issue) - all other teams that contacted them were allowed in, manual uploads were accepted, and the deadline was relaxed even beyond the 17th extension to let technical challenges get resolved.

4. We were also told that in any cases where there are only small number of teams (two in our case) competing - that Autodesk would be the final judge in awarding the Regional winner.

5. So according to the support team, what's up there now is final. Hope this doesn't create too much anger out there with teams that didn't make it in for whatever reasons. :(

The other teams may have submitted to another regional. Last year at Midwest there were only 2 submissions, so this year we thought we might try the Kansas City regional. Turns out there were only 2 (including us) again :D

The same thing happened with our team at last year's Arizona Regional. It was so awkward having to essentially pick who will win at the regional :ahh: Hoping to avoid this we decided to enter at the Las Vegas Regional, but unfortunately it appears that we are the only team entered there.

It's disappointing seeing fewer and fewer animations being submitted every year, and I fear if this continues the Animation Award may eventually be judged only at a national level or even fade away entirely. Best of luck to all teams this year, and I hope everyone had a blast creating their animations!

Carrie - where did you guys submit to? I am now able to see ours and Wildstang for the Chicago regional, but that's it. Thought I'd see yours in there....

Question. How is it going to be figured out if the votes end up being tied?

I have no idea. I think they are going to be posted on the Autodesk website.

Usually they wait until after the last regional has announced their winner, then announce the top 5.
