View Full Version : 2010 Alliance Selection Results
Hello all,
As you may or may not know, since 2004 Team 1114 has been publishing an extensive scouting database for the FIRST Community to use in preparation and during the FIRST World Championship. Past (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76599) databases (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66776) can (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56550) be (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46564) found (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37101) here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37101). All the data found in these databases is mined from the results posted by FIRST on www.usfirst.org (http://www.usfirst.org). Unfortunately, FIRST has a habit of not tracking the proper order of alliances. The system for the past few years has made no distinction between the Alliance Captain, 1st Pick and 2nd Pick. This information makes up a pretty important portion of the database. In the past we've been able to get this information by scouring CD and by some reverse engineering of the standings. Unfortunately with 48 regional/district events, this task is becoming much more difficult leading to more gaps in the database. As such, we're asking for your help.
What I ask is that for every regional this year, one person posts the full results from alliance selection in this thread. Here's an example form Waterloo 2006.
Event: Waterloo 2006
1.) 1114 1503 1281 W
2.) 1219 1596 912 SF
3.) 188 610 771 F
4.) 1680* 1901 931 QF
5.) 68* 1305 1558 SF
6.) 854 830 1189 QF
7.) 1846 772 859 QF
8.) 1084 781 1605 QF
* Declined Team 1219
All that's necessary is that you post the alliances in the order that they were selected. Keeping track of declines is a nice bonus. If you really want to go the extra mile you can add in the overall finish of the alliance as shown in the example, but it's not critical.
Most scouts already write this stuff down during alliance selection, so it's just a matter of one person from each regional remembering to keep that scrap of paper until they get home and posting it here. Or, if you're watching on a webcast jots things down as you watch and then post away.
As added incentive, I'll give out some form of Team 1114 gear to every person who posts at least three correct, non duplicated, regional results.
Thanks from all of us who put together this database, especially Roberto.

I'll post everything / the first three events I see on the webcasts as it happens. I was already planning on helping out at my own events and stuff, but then I read the second to last line of your post. :)

3 regionals! Darn!;)
Sounds like an interesting system. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

I will hopefully get this info for you at the Traverse City District this weekend.
Also do you guys need any past results, or are you just looking for this years results?

I can do NJ regional and Virginia (Former VCU) regional. I will rank the alliances from winners to QF eliminated alliances. I'll also state alliance numbers, who played who, and the teams within each alliance. May I use my version of recording?
Ex:
A1- (#, #, #)
A2- (#, #, #)
...
A8- (#, #, #)
A1- W
A2- F (lost to A1)
A3- SF (lost to A2)
A4- SF (lost to A1)
A5- QF (lost to A4)
A6- QF (lost to A3)
A7- QF (lost to A2)
A8- QF (lost to A1)

Hey Eric,
Thanks for offering to help! I'd prefer it if you used the format that I described (it displays all the info that you'd post, since FIRST uses a consistent bracket, e.g. 1v8, 4v5, 2v7, 3v6), but ultimately it's up to you. As long as we get the information of who was selected in the proper order, it's all good.

Karthik, as this is part of the FiM scoring it should all be available on the FiM website. (As I recall that is Jim Zondag having people text it to him as the events go) we had planned on seeing if we could consistently figure it out based on the data on FIRST's website. I will definitely let you know if I get that running.

Thanks, Andrew. Last year the FiM events were the easiest for us to get the results for as everything was displayed correctly on their website. If you can figure out how to automate the process from the results on the FIRST website, that would be amazing.

On a related note, I do plan on getting FRCFeed back up, hopefully tomorrow night (if FIRST puts up some data for me to test with) so it will hopefully automate your collection of match data too. I'll work with Clinton on getting the automated alliance stuff up hopefully by next week.

No problem! I'll use your method, but I will re-arrange it with my method
Ex:
A2) W (#,#,#)
A6) F (#,#,#)
etc...

I don't know for sure but I would assume that Karthik is looking for people to use his format so it is easier to paste into Excel (or parse and use for whatever he wants to use it for)
With a standard format he can just copy and paste the block and every regional will look the same, If the format is different (even if it is only slightly different) the data becomes more difficult to parse and cannot be simply copied and pasted into Excel.

My sheet got lost in the fray of cleaning up after alliance selection, so I can't correct exactly. But I don't think this list is 100% accurate. I'm pretty sure 1829 was 45's first selection.

I was more certain of 3373 being 45's first pick because I remember Blair making a comment about the vets picking the rookies in the first round. 1829 did play the midfield which is rare for a 3rd bot, but I figured that decision was to allow 1829 to try to hang. Again, this is from memory so there is a good chance you are right

I know this mostly is relevant to last year, as this year's data is already here, but FiM keeps a record of who picks who, as it is part of the State competition qualifying algorithm. If you need last year's data, I'm sure someone with strong ties to FiM can find that data (I have seen it in a spreadsheet before, I just don't happen to have it).

This seems like the appropriate spot for the following message. I know all of you want to help us with the database, but please refrain from posting unless you are absolutely sure your results are correct. There were numerous mistakes last weekend, leading to our data collecting team having to do extra work. So, yes, please keep posting results, but make sure they're correct.

yeah... the PI oneers sorta crushed our regional... there were a lot of good bots there, but i'm sorta sure they could have taken most alliances by themselves... they did once actually in the qualifier... 14-4 in a elim match i believe... it was intense...

I was multi-tasking at the time, but I thought I heard there was a team selected, but didn't have anyone there to accept the invitation so they had to pick someone else. Did I hear it correctly?

I honestly don't know. I was switching between North Star and 10,000 Lakes so I didn't hear the 2nd round of picks for North Star. I just copied down the results from the webcast.

1280's decline was our mistake. 2122
was an excellent robot and was driven
smartly. Let that be a lesson to us.
I wouldn't let the fact of our decline
lead you to repeating the mistake.

Sort of. It was just your usual alliance selection gaffe of someone not having the correct team number on their list. In this case someone tried to select 3512 who not only wasn't at the event, but doesn't even exist. It was supposed to be 2512 who they then tried to select. 2512 had already been selected in the first round.

I'm not sure why TBA is mixed up about the finals in MSC.
The Winners were: 1918, 469, 2834
The Finalists were: 67, 217, 2612

When TBA scraps the FIRST webpage, TBA automatically determines the winner of the finals by who won the highest numbered match, which in this case is elimination match 21 (http://www2.usfirst.org/2010comp/events/GL/matchresults.html) which the Blue Alliance won 13-8. The actual last (4th) match is Match 19  which Red won 14-12 . Basically, when there is a tie (like the original match 19), FMS will write over the tie with the deciding match score. For whatever reason FMS doesnt allow there to be ties or more than 3 matches per series in the elims. TBA has to fix this issue manually, which it looks like they did (http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/event/2010gl). Your badge should update soon.

However, where is the 18-18 tie?
On frcfms twitter feed (http://twitter.com/frcfms/statuses/11550492518) of FRC-spy (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/frcspy.php?). TBA fixed the champions, not the scores. In contrast, Northstar had 2 ties (http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/event/2010mn2) and is not fixed yet.

You are correct. The database group is working furiously to have this year's version ready for the release of the divisions.

Im not sure if it still matters, but Id still just like to post this anyway. Some fields may not be accurate since I dont know exactly what each team seeded (etc), but the results are right, I think. If there is a problem, that needs to be changed, feel free to tell me.
