In NJ Chris Gregory was our Regional WF winner.

Nobody in the FIRST world is more deserving. Chris is a great guy working with all sorts of challenges in his team's path but still motivating kids and inspiring all of us.

And he is a fun guy too with a twisted sense of humor. ; )

Congrats Chris- well deserved

The first time I met Chris was in my rookie year in 2007 when he came over to the stands and our mentors immediately knew who he was and so easily struck up a conversation. I thought, that this guy must be really popular, I didn't even know of a Team 1089 then. Through my high school years however, as I learned more and more about Team 1089 and one of their lead mentors, I was amazed at how much of an impact Chris has had on 1089 and NJ FIRST in general.

Chris deserved this award very much, so congratulations Chris, keep on doing what you do!

Have any of the regionals shown a slide on Friday listing all the nominations? I know this was done at some of the events last year.

It is so good to see so many outstanding mentors recognized for their years of hard work - often done quietly in a behind-the-scenes way. I'm so happy for Kevin Sevcik and for Andrew Schuetze, mentors here in Texas. It's been a long time coming for each of them. Ed Sparks was 'a rock star and a hero' to one of our 2006 team members who placed great value on his work in the FIRST CAD Library (http://www.firstcadlibrary.com/). I will never forget how excited she was to meet him at the Championships that year.

Best wishes to all of the 2010 WFFAs - and the great thing is that this is only week 2. :) Woohoo!

All the best, everyone,
Jane

P.S. Al, thank you for keeping this thread updated.

I second that. Chris is one of the finest mentors I've ever come across in FIRST - level-headed, enthusiastic and keeps going no matter what.

I would also like to add Cathy Beck to the list. She has helped team 25 tremendously over the years and we are extremely grateful - for the help and the friendship.

Does anyone know the WFFA from the Israel Regional? I do not get a listing when I go to the "Awards" section listing for Israel.

I swear I read that it was going to be done that way this year, but going back I cant find it in the official documentation so I must have imagined it :)

Either way, I would love to put a petition together to build this into all events. The students that work so hard on these essays are so often crushed emotionally when they don't "win it" for their mentor... and the recognition on the big screen would at least be a great acknowledgment of that mentor and of the student's hard work.

Seconded. If nothing else, it'd let the nominated mentor know that their team thinks that highly of them.

Also thanks to everyone in the thread for the congratulations. I'm still personally flabbergasted as it often seems like I'm not doing as much as I could be around here.... My wife strongly disagrees with this notion, however; perhaps she has the right of it.

If nothing else, teams should consider framing the application for each nominee. My team gave me a copy, with my picture (taken just after the ceremony) included in the document. It is printed on tie dye paper and framed. It sits in my living room where everyone can see it. It is one of my dearest possessions. Several WFA's were there for my presentation, Bill Beatty, Andy Baker and Ken Patton as I remember. My students were cheering and crying as parts of the application were read. You couldn't ask for anything better.

Congrats to Bill Pease from team 176, Aces High, for winning the Woodie Flowers Award at the CT Regional. Bill, I was surprised when I heard your name called, but only because I had assumed, given all you do for your team and the fact that you are one of the first and most recognizable people I met in FIRST, that you must have won the award long ago! A long overdue recognition for a fine mentor!!:)

Isn't that the truth! When anyone asks me, "How do you find the time to ...", I always say that I have a very understanding wife. :D

Northstar's winner is actually Jon Anderson, not John. I couldn't help but let the waterworks flow. He and I have been mentoring together for 8 years now and it was an honor to be a part of his presentation. Congrats Jon, and everyone else as well!!

At 10,000 Lakes, I thought Joe Passofaro was introduced as the Outstanding Volunteer Award Winner, and wondered if they had skipped Woodie Flowers. He is certainly very deserving of either one, it's just too bad that the presentation of the award wasn't more clear. Congrats Joe!

Joe received Woodie Flowers on Saturday just before eliminations. This way all the WFAA's from both sides of the street and Bill Beatty could be present for the announcement.
