I heard at the Portland Regional that FedEx was dropping shipping sponsorship next year. Can anyone confirm?

Here in Michigan, the bag-n-tag system works amazing. Just sayin that the system works really well.

Who did you hear it through? Not looking for names, but a couple of students standing around is different from someone at the shipping table.

I think the bag and tag will work great for teams withing a 40 mile radius of a competition, but longer distances (especially Atlanta) will become a hassle. Even more so for international teams! Could you imagine the fundraising involved to ship overseas! :ahh: I hope that FIRST makes all events bag and tag within a certain distance next year with shipping for long distance teams.

THANK YOU FedeX FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT OF FIRST!:)

Yeah, long distance would never work. It would be crazy to pay for shipping on your own!

You only say it's crazy because we haven't had to pay for shipping yet. If we always had to, it'd be accepted...Like paying for regionals and the KOP.

However, I'd support the bag-and-tag method within a set distance, with the option to crate the robot for out of state/region events, like championships.

My guess is that it will not be totally dropped, but cut back for sure. One of the biggest problems is that all the shipping happens on one day, and uses up tons of the FedEx resources. My thought was that potentially they will have everyone bag and tag their robot on "ship day" and then have 1 week to physically ship the robot. This would help to spread it out and make it less stressful on FedEx

It would be interesting to know how many crates are shipped annually now vs. several years back.

May be somewhat the same. Disbanded teams+those who bag might be near all those new teams that have come on the scene.

Bag-and-Tag: instead of putting your robot in a crate and shipping it, you put it in a bag (provided by FRC), ziptie it shut, and have somebody independent sign off that it was in the bag at the right time. Then, you haul your robot to the event by whatever means works for you. Somebody signs off that the bag was opened at the right time. Bag it up after the event, and get the form signed off. Haul the robot home. Repeat as necessary.
