View Full Version : [TBA]: Division simulator
I only remember this from 2008, but is there a simulator for the division between the divisions?
I remember you could use either straight or serpentine to simulate either choice by FIRST.

Seeing that Week 5 doesn't end until April 3rd, and there are rumors that teams on the wait list won't hear about openings until the 7th, I'd guess that divisions won't be out until sometime around the 12th.

I agree with this. I bet it will only be a day or so before the event, as they want to make sure that all teams have paid and are coming, so not to mess up the divisions.
The lists are usually posted the Tuesday before the Championships.

I could/probably will spin a version for this year's attendee list. It probably won't be right (like Greg mentioned), but it's still fun to look at it.

Usually posted the Wednesday before Championships and last year the algorithm was seemingly random (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=850684&postcount=29)

In 2002 through 2004 the divisions were released the Tuesday 9 days before the beginning of the championship. That ended up ranging anywhere from before the last regional ended (2003) to 10 days after the last regional ended (2002).
In 2005, the divisions were released on a Monday, 10 days before the beginning of the championship (9 days after the end of the last regionals).
In 2006, the divisions were released on a Friday, 13 days before the beginning of the championship (13 days after the end of the last regionals).
In 2007-2009, the divisions were released on a Wednesday, 8 days before the beginning of the championship (3-4 days after the end of the last regionals).

I searched for the post I made last year with the same information. That was derived from the post I made the year before, and the year before that, etc.

Never doubt Joe when it comes to stats!:D

Ummmmmmmm..... pardon my ignorance but why isn't there any rookie teams in this?
EDIT: For that matter, why does championships not appear on my signature?

Did you guys register in the last several hours? That could be it.

It's Joe Ross. How could you question that? He does things most computers with they could do. If you go to Atlanta, find him you will understand.

Nope. Our robot has been lonely, collecting dust somewhere in Atlanta for a while. The "champ" has been on the sig banner until recently.

Ya I had noticed that a while back but figured it was just a problem with the predictions (which are just for fun and not likely to be correct because I think FIRST will randomize again). However, it does seem to be an issue with the Champ list as well (which will still be used for a few more days till divisions).
If I had to guess at the cause of the problem I would note that the list is max number of teams at an event seems to be 255, which is also the max that can be stored in an unsigned char (one byte). You said you had Champs in your sig before, but more people could have registered pushing you out of the 255.

Hmm, this is a weird issue. I'll look into it. Thanks for letting us know.
EDIT: FIRST's team listing page cuts off at 250 teams this year! Our automated scraper isn't smart enough to know about page two. I'll teach it how to cope tomorrow. :) https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index.lasso?page=teamlist&event_type=FRC&sort_teams=number&year=2010&event=cmp

OK, I pushed a real dirty hack that should fix the issue. Give team badges 24 hours to regenerate and let me know if it doesn't go away! :)
