Team Update #19 has been released.

http://usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/Robotics_Programs/FRC/Game_and_Season__Info/2010_Assets/Team_Updates/Team%20Update%2019.pdf

It makes a major change to the game, just like Update #17 did. What it is, I'll let you read--it's that major.

Why do they keep doing this?

I hope teams going to Atlanta get word of this in time to alter their plans.

Oh... my... god... That's the most significant change of the game rules in the history of forever...

Wow. Just wow. Like, I can't say anything more than wow.

I think that they are trying to tell us that they are extremely happy with the rules now.

This might be the update that kills 469's game-breaker bot. Good for the GDC.

Doesn't the GDC know when to stop? All we ask for is consistency with a dose of reality!

If you look at it from the right point of view, this update is actually remarkably consistent with the previous one.

FIRST creates experiences that mirror real life experiences.

Update #17 provided us with a similar amount of information one might get from sitting in a typical corporate meeting.

Update #19 has now taken us a step further to provide us with the same type information we might get from reading and understanding a typical company's Mission Statement.

:yikes:

I've REALLY got to mention this update to my team tomorrow. It changes EVERYTHING. :yikes:

Hey, my friends are spreading the rumor that the update has reinstated <G46> as a double penalty, raised elevation to 3 and suspension to 5. Anyone want to join in?

Its an idiot trap, but I have someone talking to me on gmail right now who is falling for it :P

Wow... just wow... I'm simply floored... excuse me if this isn't a really informative post, but it'll take me at least a few days to truly develop my opinion (and our team's revamped strategy) in light of this shocking revelation... I guess I'm just speechless now...

While you're at it, tell them that the looper designs that collect directly from the tower are illegal under <G55>. :p:D:rolleyes:;) (That's <Gullible55>, not <Game55>--there is actually no <G55>.)

I was really hoping that this update would have been posted a couple of days from now--now that's the best day to have this sort of thing...

This is the stuff Failblog is made of... I just can't comprehend how an update can provide nothing....

NOTHING!

Latest updates: Mar 02, 09, 16, 23, 30.

Looks like they send an update every 7 days even if there is no content.

Well, looks like I'm going to have a sleepless night tonight to figure out how to work around this new rule change.

For years folks have been going back and forth with "regular updates" vs. "only when important things happen."

I think that FIRST has struck a decent balance at long last.

Contrary to those who say there is no information in these "nothing new to report" updates, there is some important information. Now anyone who was wondering if a rule will change knows that it will not.

While this may not seem like a significant bit of information, if there were some brewing controversy about a strategy or a ruling on the field or whatever, now teams know that FIRST has thought about it and nothing is going to change.

Teams can plan accordingly.

So... ...I say, "Keep 'em coming, GDC. Keep 'em coming..."

I have to agree with Dr. Joe here.

This update is significant in the fact that the GDC is communicating that they have CHOSEN not to make changes.

These types of updates are very good, IMHO.

They should have waited until tomorrow to release this one.:D

I'm really a fan of these weekly updates, even if they don't change anything.

Basically, the GDC is saying "We appreciate your input, but we're choosing to keep playing the game as it is."

:D

Maybe they are just being consistent and professional, moving from competition week to competition week, nothing more - nothing less. That's how I read it. I guess I've been on the receiving end of too many management meetings throughout my career.
