It's that time again. Time for everybody to come face to face and get out from behind those monitors, keyboards, and thousands of miles of Internet.

What: 2010 Chief Delphi Web Hug
When: Thursday, April 15, 2010 10:00 AM <-- NEW TIME, SINCE MATCHES START AT 1.
Where: Courtyard between Hall C and the Dome. (map (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/misc/webhug.png); the big orange/black 47)
Who: You have a forum account? You're invited.

Mike Martus (from Chief Delphi) will give a quick hello, let people meet & greet, share some quick statistics and hand out some raffle prizes. It shouldn't take too long.

Just like the past few years, we will be having a raffle this year. It will work the same way as previous years. Starting tonight, we will be giving away 15 raffle tickets each hour. I lost track of time this year, so the time to get raffle tickets is being compressed into 1 week instead of 2. You may get one the first half of week, and one this weekend and beginning of next week, for a total of two chances to win. You'll see the link show up top above the spotlight -- it will show for 1 minute (the 47th minute of each hour). We'll be picking the winners before the webhug, to save some time, but you must be present to win and pick up your prize.

The ranges for getting your two raffle tickets are as follows:
Now - 4/9
4/10 - 4/13

This year, so far, we have the webhug t-shirts (new design), some HEXBUG stuff, some copies of Solidworks, some VEX stuff, and possibly more to come. I'll reply to this thread with updates.

People have mentioned that in the past they forgot about the webhug because Thursday is a very busy day. So, again like previous years, you can get a text message reminder. Go into your user cp, click Text Mesasge Reminders (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/textremind.php?) and set up your reminder.

If you don't know what the Web Hug is, and want to learn about previous years, see these links:

Sounds like fun. I saw a glimpse of last years, but didn't get to my phone's reminder in time to go.

Confused about the raffle. What is "the spotlight" in to which this magic link will show up next to?

Edit: After lots of clicking through the previous info threads and learning nothing and looking around, I'm guessing the "spotlight" is the random quote at the top of the page (which says "spotlight" no where on it except the "more" link url)? Kinda confusing for those who don't know all the ins-outs of the CD.

I'm sad I can't go this year! I'm flying in to ATL on Thursday night so I miss as little class as possible. Only missing 2 short lectures but I'll miss everyone at the webhug :/. Have fun!

As long as I can slip away from the field I'll be working like I did the last two years... I'll be there.

I will probably be tethered to a field queing and I doubt I will be able to get away to attend the webhug. I'm sure many volunteers will have the same problem attending the event due to the obligation of serving the championship event in preparation for a hectic afternoon.

I will make my best effort to be there! can't wait to see old faces and meet some new ones.

Be sure to wear a name badge or something (with your CD name!) so we can have a chance at guessing who you are!

I believe someone had a thought to print off the upper left part of a user's post for a nametag. Brandon, Could you make this an option, so we hit a button and that part prints out.

It's always so much fun to see everyone who posts here. I, like Koko Ed will be inside working inspections. Think of me when you are outside, I am with you in spirit.

I typically just take a screenshot, then crop it down to that part of the profile and add an orange bar and a black bar to the top and another orange bar and black bar to the bottom.

Unfortunately, I won't be at Championships at all this year.

Wait, Koko Ed (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=379098&postcount=4) is doing robot inspections now? :yikes: ::ouch::

I was real optimistic that inspections will get done smoothly, now I'm scared.

LOL:D

Darnit, I'll still be in Columbia working (and, more the decider, attending a function I can't miss that night). I'll play catch-up Friday and Saturday when I'm not pinned down with my duties for 1398.

If I can manage to get away for long enough I will definitely make it. I've only managed to attend the webhug once but when I did, it was a ton of fun until my hex bug broke but its ok because I was planning on giving it to a freshman on the team anyway.

I think there may be a bug in the ticket-dispensing logic. I was able to pick up two in a one-minute period.

I think the same thing might have happened to me. When I accidentally refreshed the page, I got a new ticket number.

Got ticket number one. I hope to be able to get away from my field long enough to meet with people not at my field.

There's a way to print the ticket out even after you won it, a link or something

There may be a bug in it somewhere .. If I can't find the issue later tonight, I'll clear out extra tickets and make sure everybody only has 2 tickets before we pick the winners.

Is it possible to reserve a hug for when I am there?

I have heard that there some very cool new (color) shirts along with many copies of SolidWorks for ticket holders. Additional prizes are in the works from great supporters........

We will start at 10 sharp with a few announcements.

A special thank you to the entire "Community of FIRST" for continued support and sharing of information. You are what makes the site so important to the community.

See you at the Web Hug!

I went last year. It was fun. I am recruiting others from team 1918 to go to the Webhug.

A_Reed
10-04-2010, 19:42
I would like to be there but, it depends on my volunteer status at the time. So far I am assigned to team queuing and I doubt I will be able to get away from my post.

I have never been to a webhug since being a member of these message boards, whether as a student or a mentor. That and I haven't been in Atlanta for three years.

If I don't make this year's I will just see everyone around the fields, the pits or even the rest of the city.

You know, getting one of these tickets is sheer dumb luck sometimes. You get on CD at the :40 mark, start reading posts, and quickly realize that it's 48 minutes passed the hour! :ahh: Luckily after the umpteenth try, I finally have one :D

The idea would be to save paper, not necessarily time. It's just for verification of the #, and the email has the .pdf in it if I recall.

The web-hug is always a great time! I just have to remember to make it on time this year!
Oh, & not to hijack the thread too much, but I will be there & have a bunch of team 237 shirts to trade. Check out my post in the shirt trade in Atlanta thread as well for more details!
See everyone there!! :)

Thank You to all that attended the Web Hug.... it was great seeing the faces behind the names...

Again THANK YOU tot the moderators that keep the site running... your efforts behind the scenes keep the backbone strong and effective.

Great sponsors this year.... IFI , SolidWorks, Lockheed Martin just to name a few. Many cool gifts were given away.

As the Community of FIRST grows and moves forward it is the intent of the Chief Delphi Forums to be a vital part in the important communication between teams. Sharing our expertise and thoughts are critical to the goals of FIRST.

We welcome your ideas on how the CD site can grow and meet the future needs of the Community of FIRST.

A special Thank You to our Webmaster Brandon Martus for his deep dedication to the commitment to this site. His expertise and hard work is deserving of many thank you's.

Not to forget the great sponsorship of Innovation First International whos support in many ways is critical to the future.

THANK YOU to everyone involved with the web hug! I think this reinforces the notion that I'm the luckiest guy in FIRST. The VexNet and Cortex from IFI are pretty awesome and will distract me from exams for months to come. Once I get my computer fixed I'll be playing with SolidWorks a lot too. Glad I got to shake hands with so many people as well.

yeah same here... being on field reset on Curie didn't give me any time to get away or relax... watching over 185 matches can get tiring

I missed it this year due to being on assignment at the dome entrance for team queuing. It would have been nice to put some names to faces and all but I did enjoy seeing every single robot at the championships (if only for a fleeting moment) and a few names and faces I recognize from the rest of the FIRST community.
