Hi, my name is Georgie.
I am 5 years old.
I have Prader-Willi Syndrome.
I'll be in Atlanta cheering my big sister's robot team -- team GaCo.
If you see me, please say 'Hi Georgie'.

Georgie, if you and members of the team have a chance to stop by the 2010 Chief Delphi Web Hug (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84997), that would be a great opportunity to meet some people and say hi.

Have fun at the Championship!

Georgie,

I don't know where I will be working but if you see a gray haired guy with a black cowboy hat then I want you to yell and wave at me so I can come tell you howdy! Good luck to 1629!

Georgie, Be sure to stop by and say hi to all the Maryland teams. It will be like a treasure hunt because they are spread over all 4 of the divisions plus the FTC field. Many teams will have team buttons or necklaces or stickers to give you so be sure to bring a bag! And make sure you take your sister to visit the scholarship and sponsor tables.

Hi Georgie,
Championships is a big place, but I'll keep my eyes open to look for you!
You might like to check out the FIRST LEGO League area, too - the teams are from all over the world and it's lots of fun to talk with them!

Andy Baker

Georgie,

If you sit near the front row in the Archimedes field, I will look for you and say hi when my team goes on and off the field.

Sincerely,

I am Georgie's dad.
To all who replied, thanks for your kindness -- we've read the replies to him.
To all who invited him to the web hug, we don't get into Atlanta until too late for that but thank you.
To all who've viewed his thread (of course I posted for him), if even 10 people recognize him (he's so darn handsome) and say HI to him instead of just staring at him (he's heavy), I will have accomplished my goal.

Would Georgie like a t-shirt? If I can get one of the ones from CT FIRST before I leave for Atlanta I'll bring one along - what size (they are Men's sizes)?

Georgie and Georgie's Dad,

If you guys have a chance to come into the Pit areas, definately stop by the 1647 pit. I would love to have the honor to meet Georgie and introduce him to some of our team members. If not, I will be sure to look for you man!

I would love to drop by 1629's pit to drop off a MORT t-shirt if you would like.

Hi Georgie!
It's great that you're travelling all the way down to Atlanta to support your sister's team! It really saddens me to think of the possibility of you just getting stares at the event instead of the cheerful hello's and waves that everyone else at the venue will be exchanging. I hope that the kindness that has been extended in the past dozen posts will spread like wildfire through the FIRST community and follow you wherever your adventures take you throughout your life. Unfortunately, I won't be down there to say hello in person, but you can be that I'll be waving and smiling from over 700 miles away if I catch you on the webcast! [:

Georgie will almost certainly be the only person with Prader-Willi Syndrome in the dome next weekend -- it's that rare.
The weight problem is part of the syndrome but it's not something people are generally sympathetic about.
We think most people don't even realize they're staring, but Georgie does. :(

Everybody please stop by and get one of GaCo's blinking geckos.
They're cool and blink like crazy.
We don't have t-shirts, except the ones we wear.
You are nice people.

JaneYoung
10-04-2010, 18:14
Well, for those of us who will not be in Atlanta, maybe you guys could post a photo or a video of your blinking geckos. I bet those are funny and fun to see. Since my garden is full of little geckos here in Austin, Texas - I would love to see one that blinks.

This thread makes me smile. A lot.
Thank you, Georgie.

Steve here again... i need to learn to read better - just saw you told someone else 'man's medium' for t-shirt size. now i know yours...anybody else in the family want one? they might be the coolest shirts there this year - i wish they were giving out championship torphies for cool t-shirts!

Dear Georgie's dad,

I'm a lead mentor for 1391, been teaching kids for 25 years and am thrilled to see Georgie's post. I was just trying to upload some photos of our team working on our robot, and of our t-shirts, etc, but the files are too large for CD. If you think he'd enjoy getting some photos from the team, my e-mail is Steve.Compton@westtown.edu - e-maiil me and I can send some along. What division will you be cheering on? I do hope you can come to Curie in the pits and find us - would love to meet you all.

Perhaps your dad will PM me your address and I'll see what kind of stuff 2604 can send you!

Steve, OK, you twisted our arms  your moose artwork is pretty cool.
I'll email you the sizes for mom and me.
You would have no way of knowing this, but you've inadvertently resurrected Georgie's recent obsession (yes, OCD is another feature of PWS) with "how would I get away from a moose if it saw me?".
The other day, it was stingrays -- "can they swim faster than a jet-ski?".
Of course, he's never seen a moose and only ever seen stingrays at the aquarium.
Why he feels the need to plan a getaway strategy we'll never really understand.
Georgie, mom, and I get into Atlanta early afternoon (1 or 2PM).
By the time we get to the hotel and get settled, we may not make it to the dome at all on Thursday.
We'll probably do the aquarium instead that evening -- gotta see the whale shark again.
Georgie and I will be making the rounds in the pits (including yours) on Friday until he can't walk any longer.

And once again -- THANK YOU to all who've replied to this thread.
You may never fully realize the good you've done, but we appreciate it.

Hi Georgie! If you can (I know a lot of people want to see you!) try and stop at Team 1676's pit (The Pascack Pi-oneers) or find us in the stands, too. We'd love to give you a team t-shirt, some buttons, and we have pencils too. I hope I get to see you there, and if I do see you, I'll definitely try and say hi! :)

Georgie,
I will have a web hug t-shirt for you at Battle O'Baltimore.
I'm in the process of passing on 43 FIRST-related shirts and would be very happy for you to have this one.
Sounds like you may end up with 43 shirts yourself after this week!

Swing by scholarship row and stop at the KU booth. I promise there is something cool there (I don't know myself what we are giving out but I have been assured it is new) Also, there is a a definite possibility that you can pick up a KU shirt too. (Assuming you don't have enough shirts to wear a new one every day of the year already)

Have fun in Atlanta.

We've added you to our "pit visit" list.
It's starting to look as though I might have to rent a wheel chair for him -- he tires easily -- but we're determined to visit the pit of every kind soul who's replied to this thread.
We're not going to tell him ahead of time about 'someone special' though, he would immediately start picturing a visit with Dora the Explorer, Diego, or one of the Backyardigans. :D

That's a great idea. There is so much for him to see and do, although 5 year olds need to rest after so much overload and stimuli. But for him to have a wheel chair to be able to travel around in would rock and maybe help prevent him from tiring so quickly. Also, has he worn safety glasses before? If yes, no problem. If no, you might give him some to get used to.

I don't know if you have thought about this, or if you would want to do this, or if anyone has suggested it, but maybe you guys could make a Georgie sign that could be held up in the stands or used however you would want to. Or a small name tag - with a gecko.

Not for prolonged periods.
But he doesn't resist when we make him wear a helmet when he rides his 4-wheeler, so I'm thinking not a major problem.

One more thing. The buttons will get heavy and I have a feeling that Georgie is going to get a lot of buttons (such an understatement...). You could drape a cloth or towel over the back of the wheel chair behind him and pin the buttons there. You might need to - duct tape - :) the cloth or towel in place. Or hey, one the team shirts, if there is a spare. He could also carry a small bucket or container with him in the chair for teams to put the buttons in. And a magic marker for autographs if he wants some or if he wants to give some.

You may need a pack mule for all the goodies. Do they allow those in the Dome?

Hopefully - we will all get to see some wonderful photos of this team adventure in Atlanta!
