Archimedes (https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index.lasso?page=teamlist&event_type=FRC&event=CMP&year=2010&division=archimedes&sort_teams=number) looks like fun!
358 & 359 get to play together for the very first time!

Medes is once again going to be a blast this year! Being 201's third year strait in it, we are definitely excited to play in this incredibly stacked field!
Since Archimedes is always the most spirited of the divisions, I think I will start out the famous chant...

It's our third time in Atlanta since 2005 and our third time in Archimedes. The competition is going to be FIERCE!

What really scares me is that 103,25, 148 could be one powerhouse alliance in this field. For those of you who don't know about the legacy of 25 and 103, they paired up 3 times to win the NJ regional together, and once in Florida. Every time, they were a huge powerhouse.

It looks like we couldn't hit Galileo for the fourth year in a row.
Looking forward to the fun down in Atlanta ;)

Looks like 176's second year on Archi. Excited to see we're with quite a few friends from last year as well. Should be a great field. :D

If this stays anywhere close to the way it is now, I think this is going to be the most competitive sets of elimination round that I've ever seen if people pick em right. I mean in this division there are so many teams that dominated regional events pretty darn close to 24 if they get together, it's going to be pretty close to the apocalypse. I'd say if you can get out this divison, you get figure out how to beat 1114 and 469, if of course these aspects of the divisions don't stray much from the present. Off the top of my head we have: 25, 33, 71, 148, 254, 330, 341, 359, 1918. Wow! Just wow. ..234, 375, 1124, 103 It's going to be mere insanity figuring out strategies to get through each and every match.

Well, one thing's for sure. We're not gonna be bored this year xD I'm actually really excited how intense it is. Makes every win sweeter and every match all the more fun. Let's make Archimedes the most covered field on NASA this year! :D

Team 3411 CAN NOT wait to compete in Archimedes in our whirwind rookie year! I can't wait to experience the athmosphere of a FIRST world championship. I'm also looking forward to seeing the Brazilian team.

Lookin good Archimedes! Eh, everyone will probably be watching Curie and not watch until the insane matches are over! Then they will regret it! :D

Archimedes is going to be a great division this year. Coming from the MSC,1918 is ready to see what the rest of the country has to offer :]
Wow! This is gonna be really fun! Just watching the division qualification matches will be amazing. I can't wait for next week :]

I think the numbers are even higher than this!
Just thinking of a few teams (1, 201, 33, 1918, 3357, 70), I count 5 district finalists and only 3 district wins.
Finalists:
1
33 (twice)
201
1918
Winners:
70
1918
3357
Still, that's a lot of MI power (from only 6 of the many MI teams)!
3256 is excited to compete with so many great teams. Good Luck! :)

I count 41 official event wins (Regionals + districts + MSC) in Archimedes (verified by 1114's scouting database).
That is the most wins of all divisions (Galileo - 37, Curie - 33, Newton - 28).
Additionally, only 25 times did a team in Archimedes not make eliminations. That is the least number of all divisions (Curie - 31, Galileo - 31, Newton - 34).
The average OPR in Archimedes is 2.09. That is the highest of any division (Curie - 1.99, Newton - 1.96, Galileo - 1.74).
We also have the most Chairman's Awards - 17. (Curie - 14, Galileo - 12, Newton - 10).
All in all, this is the deepest and most accomplished division in FIRST this year.
I can't wait.

I would just like to say I'm glad I'm not competing against Archimedes.
The team list is the Energizer bunny. It keeps going and going and going and going and going...
Team 86 is looking forward to being on this division with our Florida regional championship teammate 1612! and 103 as well->Maybe we'll get the chance to pair up this time =D
Going to be a tough division to win in, but lets crank out the winning Einstein alliance!

Archimedes is arguably the toughest and deepest division this year. It's too bad we can't distill all that talent into the three teams going to Einstein. At the end of the day, I hope we aren't just preparing battle scarred cannon fodder for 1114 & 469.

I'm not even worried about the 469/whoever alliance. I mean they are good and all, but if MSC taught me anything it's that they can be beaten.
Plus we won't even have to play their division winner until we win Archimedes :D

Similar to what I did in previous years (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=735425&postcount=165), I ran through 200 simulated qualification match schedules (all 144 matches, using the FIRST match generator). I used each team's average opr (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=85090) for their contribution to a match. I calculated the standings for each of the 200 simulated qualification schedules, and then looked at some statistics from the aggregate results.

I have never seen the FIRST data analyzed like this before, and I must say it's really cool!
If you don't mind, what did you use to simulate all of the match data?

Team 2574 is extremely excited to participate in Archimedes. Although it looks like it;s going to be a really tough division. See you all there!

Of all the teams they add to Archimedes, they add 968??? Wow!
for us, we keep getting into tough divisions.:ahh:
2005 Archimedes was tough.
2006 Newton was hands down the toughest.
2007 We didnt go
2008 Newton was almost as tough as Galileo.....i.e. Pink and Rawc dominated and even almost won Einstein.
2009 Galileo was the toughest field.
2010 Archimedes is the deepest from almost every statistical category, including Chairman's.
This will definitely be the field to watch during eliminations from start to end.
We have never been to Curie and it seems that our friends 368 always get Curie year after year.

Ok so it's my first year to Championships and I find out that 1647 is in the Division. I am really excited to see how this plays out. Hopefully, we can play to any strategy you need us to. ;)
Well you know us here on 201 would love for you to be on Archimedes! Who else can we argue about our hook with Plus you are our favorite ref!
A big ExTex thanks for that. And you know I would love to see THE HOOK in action! Even if I'm reffing another field I will try to drop by. Good Luck!

I'll be going to the webhug, so long as we don't have a match. I'd be kinda sad if I missed it 2 years in a row :(
Similar to what I did in previous years (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=735425&postcount=165), I ran through 200 simulated qualification match schedules (all 144 matches, using the FIRST match generator). I used each team's average opr (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=85090) for their contribution to a match. I calculated the standings for each of the 200 simulated qualification schedules, and then looked at some statistics from the aggregate results.

Joe's statistics are interesting... on Curie, we have two teams that seeded top 8 200 out of 200 times. (1114 and 469).
Nobody on Arch has that statistic.
Also, our #1 seed is FAR less distributed, 1114 gets it 150 times, 469 gets it 49 times, and 573 getting it once.

I will look for both of you!
I missed the webhug my Freshman year due to timing, and couldn't go to ATL last year, so I really want to go this year!
Lets have Archimedes have the largest presence there!
I'll be going to the webhug, so long as we don't have a match.
I'm assuming you mean practice match, since real matches don't start for 3 hours afterwards :)

I know, thats what made Detroit so awesome!!! BTW, is 201 trading any shirts?
Unfortunately we aren't :/ There may be some people with shirts to trade, but I'm not 100% sure.
This is due to the cost of the shirts, and that we had to order shirts on a per person basis.
I think that Team 341 (Miss Daisy) and Team 33 should team up.
Why??.....
Because it would be open season for the field announcers.
The Bee/Flower/Pollination jokes would be amazing. :D

Hey guys
I was just doing a little pre scouting and when I tried to find pictures on The Blue Alliance I realized that many teams did not have a photo posted.
I was hoping that maybe we could post pictures of all the robots or if someone knew a place with more pictures and could show me the way.
Any help would be great.
sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can't find this information anywhere!
Does anybody have the link for the championship webcast (specifically the Archimedes field)? I know NASA usually does it, but I can only find the links to this year's archived footage on their site.

Archimedes looks like a lot of fun but if I'm on another field I will be sure and drop by to tell the refs to look for C-clamps on the field after you play! Good luck! Can't wait to see the new stuff!

We're using a 6 wheel articulating drive driven by 4 CIMs on the AM Toughboxes, a hanging mechanism on a winch with a dog gear, and a spring loaded kicker pulled back by a window motor.

Alright everyone, reasons why Archimedes was the best scientist...go!
Because he approximated Pi :)
I don't have any good pics of 33's bot, but you can see everything above the bumpers in my WAI pic. Hangs really quickly from the vertical bar. I think Daniel Ernst has some mixed in with pics from Kettering, Troy, and MSC. He posted a link to the MSC ones HERE (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85029&highlight=Michigan+State+Championship+Photos), the best ones of our bot are:
Hanging (http://www.flickr.com/photos/danielernst/4497032538/in/set-72157623766907840/)
Driving (http://www.flickr.com/photos/danielernst/4497340956/in/set-72157623766907840/)
6wd, center wheel articulated. Normally drop-center but the center wheel can come up as much as 4-5"
front 4 wheels are AM Plaction wheels
rear 2 are omni wheels
Even though it might not seem obvious from the picture of the underside (hanging), all wheels are driven. 4x CIM through AM Shifters, ~5 and 12 fps.
Claw - Hangs quickly from vertical pole and also pushes center wheels down (they are not actuated other than this)
Pincher-type ball magnet, on a floating assembly, sprung down to go over minor terrain changes like the small bump by the towers and such
Variable-distance spring kicker, motor recoil.
Cool lights to show off during tower-hanging, doubles as feedback to driver and coach.
Hangs using "the hook"
I liked the bolding but I have a little more respect for "THE HOOK" than just bolding. :)
I made that call, thank you very much!
And you did make that call Gary! But I'm glad neither of us had to make the call about the strategy clipboard that had slid underneath the plastic and managed to stay there all through the match! :)
Archimedes is going to be fun!

Hopefully it will never happen again, since we may not be that lucky next time. Although we did win that match with the clipboard...

I'm excited to see 103 compete with some world-class competition. We always seem to be on a "stacked" or "deep" division and this year is no exception. Here's some alliance predictions.

6.233,341,1218 QF
7.1124,118,86 QF
8.45,234,2753 QF

BT, These look like some very realistic alliances. I also see you've placed yourself on a very capable alliance... :p
Though, I think that a #1 Alliance of 25, 254, and 103 would be much more awesome. I guess it's also possible that 25 could select 968 if they play well and try to repeat the magic of Newton '06.
Regardless, I think I'll be spending some of my free time on Archi cheering on some of the awesome teams from the NJ/PA area. (25, 103, 341, 1218, 2753)

With a field as deep as ours, there are countless alliances that could win regionals around the nation. The alliance that wins Medes (or even finalists) will be one of the best alliances of the year.
And since it hasn't been done in a while...

hey everyone! Talon 540 will be in Archimedes this year and we are thrilled and anxious about championships!! We attended the Virginia regional at VCU and had many minor technical defects that were overlooked so we were not able to perform to our full potential at VCU. Fortunately, we figured everything out and got our robot working the way its supposed to and is ready for Atlanta! We should be able to work effectively in Archimedes and hope to do well so drop by and check us out. We are excited to meet all of the other teams in Archimedes and it should be an fun experience. Good luck to you all!! :)

We have played full on offense and full on defense, and have been extremely successful at both.
We have never tipped and have never broken down.
Everybody better watch out for these guys.
It only takes them a few seconds to go from one side of the field to the other, a maneuver they used to great success at SVR. They were indefensible on the offensive end. We played against them in the quarters. Knowing that 604 would move to the offensive position, 3129 decided to set up in the home zone and launch our offensive attack. Even with our alliance's midfield robot dead in the water, 3129 poured in 8 goals that match, but 604's alliance still outscored us (final score: 13 to 10).
We figured with our alliance's midfield bot running for the second match, we could outscore 604's alliance. No dice. 604 changed strategy and locked us down in our home zone. We had to pull in our midfield robot and double-team them just to get any balls in. We got flattened, 9 to 4.
This just highlights Quixilver's versatility and adaptability. Like Eugene said, We have played full on offense and full on defense, and have been extremely successful at both. That's no idle boast. They'll be a valuable member of any eliminations alliance at Atlanta, if not the captain.
Oh yeah, and they're in contention for the Dean's List, Engineering Inspiration, and Chairman's Awards, too. These guys are the real deal.
Eugene, now that I've gone and put a target on your back (:D), knock 'em dead at Atlanta!

Flash 1319 Specs:
6 Wheel Drive all wheels driven by their own motor/gearbox combo
6 AM Plaction wheels with the high traction tread
Middle wheel Floats for easy bump traversal and drives around on the floor with the center wheel slightly lower for quick maneuverability
Quick latching hook on arm for lifting. Lifts From Floor to scoring height in 5 seconds flat.
Our Kicker will clear all zones and we are decent at scoring from midfield.
Since Archimedes is so deep I would call us a decent offensive robot, excellent at defense and we can hang with the best of them.
Good Luck to everyone in Archmides Division.

For anyone on the field crew reading this, the sound (particularly the play-by-play announcing) is dangerously loud and painful in the stands. Too much upper range. PLEASE turn it down. We aren't watching from the upper deck here.

The matches are making it quite clear how stacked this field is. Wow.
Also, I just looked up the match schedule- looks like 180 is playing 1124 in match 23. Boy is that going to be a confusing match!

I'm sure enjoying it. Regardless of how we're doing.
It's nice to play with some really great teams.
Archimedes will win it this year. I can feel it.

Watching these matches on the webcast really has me disappointed that I couldn't get the time off of work to go to Atlanta. It is really cool to have the opportunity to see our bot compete with teams like 1918 and 254, playing with these great bots lets us do what we like to do, just clean upthe front zone. So far it is working great.

On behalf of the Archimedes inspection team, I want to say thanks to all of the Archimedes teams for making the inspection process a complete success. At 1:00 we had only one team that needed to complete inspection. You guys rock ........ now let's win this thing! :D

Hello all, long time chiefdelphi user, first time poster. I just had a quick question; does anyone know why Team Hammond is listed as playing only 6 matches so far? I checked and noticed that they have in fact played 7 up to this point in time, and their seeding seems to be very much impacted by it. I thought someone would have noticed that by now, unless they received a red card and I missed it. Thanks guys, and let me just say that chiefdelphi is one of the greatest websites out there!! :D
Dr. Joe already noticed that. 71 will in fact play 11 matches; their third round will not count at all for seeding, as it is a surrogate round. In that round, they are filling in the schedule so that all teams get the same number of counting rounds.

Congratulations to alliance 1! I was rooting for you since your first pick (but shh, don't tell my team that! ;))
LET'S GO ARCHIMEDES!
On behalf of the Archimedes Field Reset Team, I want to say thanks to all of the teams for making Archimedes a wonderful success. Above all want to thank team 254 for voting me the hardest working volunteer on the field. I will wear the t-shirt you gave me with pride.
