Let's get this started.
My opinion of the factors in Newton are highlighted.

I could see any combination of 67 / 16 / 971 / 706 / 125 / 1902 / 177 taking the division, depending on the amount teams improve. Basically, pick one of those teams, have them seed #1, and end game.
Best of luck to old alliance partner 177 and Wisconsin powerhouse 706!
20 is certainly looking forward to this ;)

Well, I hope nobody overlooks the FLR #1 seed and regional champions when considering power alliances...
Now who could that be? :D
It's gonna be a fun couple of days!

I definitely forgot to mention you guys and 20. If 20 can improve dramatically in 5 days, imagine how much better they are in 5 WEEKS :D You guys also made a big splash at FLR.
1592 is ready to return to Newton for the first time since '07 :D
and who do you guys think/want our MC to be?

Barry is typically not one of the four full-time MCs at Championship. He might back-up one of the MCs, but that remains to be seen (not sure if he's even volunteering as an MC/game announcer, you'd have to ask him).

You guys also made a big splash at FLR.
After quite a few years of not being all that good, it's nice to have a highly competitive robot this year. We're really, really looking forward to playing with the big boys.
My team is psyched, my drivers are highly experienced (thanks in part to a videogame we programmed that mimics our drive and functionality... sort of... that he's been playing nonstop since the last week of the build season), and we're ready to head South and make some small-town rural noise in the big city!
I've basically run out of anything intelligent to say, and would just like to contribute the following thought to this thread:
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!1!!!!11 eleven!!!
I can't wait to see what Looking Forward (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=930847&postcount=4) has to say about Newton! Don't delay!

Barry will on the FTC fields, but I would like to give a shout out for the Dan Richardson/George Wallace duo!!!
868 is definitely excited to be back to Newton for the 5th time! Looks like an impressive showing of teams! Glad to see some fellow Indiana teams with us!

11 is ready to play with some old friends and ready to meet new teams. We haven't been on Newton since 2006, so let's see what happens.
Ohhh and our Rookie All Stars 3125 (WPI & CT RAS) and 3231 (NJ RAS) BOTH made it into the same division! Woot! :) Good luck guys, I know you'll put up a good fight for Championship Rookie All Star!

This is the first time we've been in the same division back to back years. Should be fun, I can't wait to see who we get to play with this year as there are a lot of new teams for us to play with that we don't normally see even at the Championship.

Im also excited to see teams like 971, 16, and 67 compete. It should be awesome.

with 67 in the division the MC will most likly be Dave Verrbugie (Wow I butchered that last name... Alot harder to spell than say)
All I can say is GOPI!!
Whoohoo! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in Atlanta! We can make Newton rock this year!
Oink Oink...

(The first of many to come! : P )
it will rock, our robot has improved so much over time
Ours has too, we are ready to show off probably our best autonomous that our team has ever made, lets go Newton!

343 is excted to play on newton! =] can we start with the scouting portion? can people describe what your robot can do? i will start:
-track drive robot
-4 CIMS on the drivetrain
-pneumatic released spring-loaded kicker
-kicker kicks 35 feet
-rides up a vertical pole to hang
-hangs in about ten seconds
-in auto, usually start far, clear all three balls (maybe score two if we are lucky ;) )
-6 wheel tank drive
-2 speed AM SuperShifter gearbox
-Ball magnet
-cam system kicker, spring tension
-multi-tension kicker(prematch change)
-low setting=20ft loft style high setting=10 ft line drive style
-2 auto settings: prefer start in far but can go in middle
-Slow Setting: kicks all 3 far balls scores 1-2 but whatever misses ends in front zone
-Fast Setting: kicks far 3 and then middle 2 scores 1-4 but whatever misses ends in front zone

The MC will probably either be Chiniqua or Jeff Seaton
Blair usually take Galileo with Andy Grady, and Mark Leon usually takes Curie.
Jeff and Chiniqua usually split up Newton and Archimedes.
And of course Dave will be making appearances.
whos the guy that does Einstein and did MSC this year?
(pretty sure that is the same guy lol)
George A.

whos the guy that does Einstein and did MSC this year?
(pretty sure that is the same guy lol)
that's Dave Verbrugge
he's done Einstein every year since I can remember (at least 04) I think before that it was Dr Flowers.
Man we need to get him, he is an awesome MC
whos the guy that does Einstein and did MSC this year?
(pretty sure that is the same guy lol)
Dave Verbrugge! Despite seeing him today, I can't tell you if he's MCing the whole time, or just part time as George A. stated. That will probably be what happens, as that is what he has done in the past.
Team 67:
8 wheel tank drive
Quick bump traversal
Kicker with variable power
- 3 coded set positions: Near, Middle, and Far Zone
Hanger that sometimes works, but apparently not when it (http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/vids/10gl/gl_f1m2.mp4) counts (http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/vids/10gl/gl_f1m4.mp4). Ahem. We'll fix that.
- Able to continue rising after the buzzer
Many, many, MANY autonomous modes :)
George A.
08-04-2010, 23:39
Man we need to get him, he is an awesome MC
For qualification rounds he just backs up the 4 MC's of the fields. And then he MC's Einstein. Although they could always change it up this year.

Dave gives some of the best speeches in all of FIRST. In 2008, he gave the perfect storm speech, in was the best 5 minutes all friday. Then last year as he presented the links between the final 6 robots on einstien, which isnt to hard considering 4 were from michigan. Even this year at the state championships, he throws out teams historys left and right. Truely and world class person and MC!
294 is pretty good this year, I imagine they'll sneak in under the radar.
shh... - "Where'd THAT robot come from?"
We're happy to be joining the Newton division!
Say Hello to the 103rd seed worldwide: The Elm City Robo Squad!
Team 558 info:
4 wheel Mecanum drive
can balance and travel across the bump laterally
2 power kicking mechanism
Ball Magnet
Ball detection mechanism, provides visual feedback
Auto-detecting autonomous, will detect zone and act accordingly
consistent hanger, have successfully hung on every attempt
Dual gryo system with automatic error detecting
effective at offensive and defensive play
put up first double digit score and first double hang at CT
I can't wait to come back guys! This is 558s 3rd time the the championships, and our first time in Newton!

Since we can't seem to get this up on TBA, here is a link to the Palmetto regional. http://www.clemson.edu/tlt/stream/frc/video.html
281, 342, 343 were at this event and are now attending Newton.
343 has been working on a better ball magnet and hanger. The ball magnet "floats." Stop by the pit and see what I'm talking about, or see it on Isaac....

1551 is:
Mecanum drive (4 CIM), with assistive Andymark wheels for hump transversal.
Dual-wheel, side-grabbing ball controller.
Two-speed kicker, adjustable in-game.
Multiple autonomous modes (upgraded from Regional)
The most consistent hanger at FLR -- about six seconds off the top or side bar (in the corner).
Self-righter (which we didn't at any point need.)
We very strongly prefer to start in the middle zone, but can clear balls from the far into the close zone, and can score in the close or middle zones (which we could do before, but can now do even better with our New Improved Kicker(TM)).

You're forgetting 1718 (one of the top scorers in the country), 1922, 1868, 1592, 910 (MI powerhouse), 868, 801...etc..
We may not have most of the big dogs, but we definitely have some of the best middle of the pack robots. I can see 67 and 1718 pairing up to take the division. Along with 11 as a last pick. Right right right?:p
My opinion of the factors in Newton are highlighted.

I can see 801,1902 and 1592 take the win, ecpecially if 801 can get their hanging mechanism(which has yet to be seen by me, but is on their card)
but I am slightly biased :p

I think you've got it nailed! However, just to add to that, don't forget team 20, winners of the WPI Regional, as a 910-esque close zone scorer. And also, team 525 won Kansas City against a stacked alliance of 16 and 1625. Teams 1727 and 3123 teamed up to win the DC Regional, and 399 isn't that bad of a scorer. 2771 is an amazing close zone scorer despite not having a ball grabber or kicker. Finally, team 2669 racked up the scores at the Israel Regional, and won that event.
Isaac....
...Newton!
Having competed against 971 and 668 at SVR, and 294 at San Diego, we're definitely excited about Atlanta this year!
Actually, we're pretty surprised and excited about the whole thing. We only got off the waiting list last Friday so it's been a bit of a mad scramble to diagnose problems we thought we had months for in only two weeks.... But we're ready to make a splash and have a great time at Championships!
Personally, since Mark Leon is in and out of our and 254's lab all the time, and we love him, it would be great if he were our MC. But I think he only ever does Curie, so 469 and my school team 192 get him instead.
Just curious but does anyone know when they will release the pit map of the teams?

Clearly you guys can tell I didn't do a close analysis of the event.
20's actually a pretty versatile robot, as they can play a decent midfield game as well. Never really at the level of 67 or 16, but they kicked a few balls up and over. They seeded 2nd at WPI despite code problems for the first half of the event, but with all this time they should definitely be at full performance.
2415 is excited to compete and will hopefully (finally... iteration 3) be hanging!!!
Does anybody know if this match list is real? I didnt remember them publishing it before the event started, so I thought it might be a test pairing...

If he's the one who dies his hair blue for Championship we definitely had him on Newton last year.

In this field, we're debating whether we should play the striking zone, or the defensive zone in Atlanta. We're pretty much the same as 20 and have been playing offense in Boston, but we're not sure what we should show off. Offense? or Defense?
Our autonomous get balls where they need to be but we generally like playing the front zone with our crab drive.

Akash,
You definitely looked strong in the near zone at Boston. I would say you could play a good near and far zone, particularly with your crab setup. You can keep the far zone clear of any balls and then move up into the near zone mid match or be the main striker depending on the alliance.

I thought the Michigan state quals might go like the Atlanta quals: A lot of good teams trying to outscore their opponents. Then there comes the fact that teams may want to play some defense to show they can do it. Just like a team that has clearly been beaten by the finale that decides to hang. It gives the winning alliance another 4 points, but they prove to the scouting teams they can do it. Thoughts?

It has been my experience that teams often look for the overall capabilities of the robots they are scouting. If they show they can play defense well in one match, I know that our scouts write that down and bring it to the table during our discussions. So I would say focus on your teams strength and adapt to the match as need be. If this requires your robot to showcase another feature or strategic level of play, then I am sure teams will take note of that.

Assuming this post wasn't a tactful reminder to the crowd that you can do both... :)
Play what you need to do every match, and do it well. If all goes well, you seed high. If it doesn't, then you're a flexible partner. If you treat qualifications like a talent show and not a competitive match, it'll show. I'd be more impressed with doing whatever it takes to win than your ability to convince alliance partners to let you take a position repeatedly, possibly at their own expense. Play your game, it's not a bad one.

I think MORTs ability to play offense greatly outweighs your defensive capabilities. Not that your defensive capabilities are bad, just I feel you are so much more an offensive robot than a defensive one.

342:
articulating 8-wheel drive train w/ 2 speed supershifters
front mounted spring steel kicker with 20' range
ablity to hang over the bump
"469" like ball return redirection
excellent pushing power, even against treaded bots
Newton this year has some of my favorite teams: 16, 343, and 1902 jump out at me. I still remember the onik onik boom m&m's 1902 gave us back in '08:D . We had some rotten luck the first couple weeks, but we are hoping to make a name for our self as a defensive bot to be recogned with.
I encourage everyone in Newton to stop by our pit or booth to learn about our Summer Pygames program. http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85043&highlight=team+342

Chinequa (sp?) was on Curie last year. Pretty sure Mark Leon was Curie the two years before that though. Jeff Seaton did Newton in 07, don't know about 08
I am pretty sure that Chiniqua will be the MC for Newton this year.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, its easier to get feedback from those on the outside looking in than deciding for yourself. :)
Definitely can't wait to see how this division plays out.
Ignore 3176 at your own risk. They have been working hard to make improvements and will be a factor.
And we will be bringing an improved Igor to newton with stronger faster hanger totally new ball magnet and enhanced kicking ability.
See you all there.

I was trying to leave at least a few darkhorses for late round picks ;)

Hi All!
Team 1727 is excited to join you all at Newton! Our robot flies, controls balls with tractor beams and can actually instantaneously transport all the balls into one goal, and that is all before we turn on the power.
Oddly enough we couldn't do all that until Dean Kamen signed our bot!
I have a few serious predictions though!
24 teams will make the elimination rounds at Newton. 3 will actually win the division. One rookie team will be awarded the highest rookie seed and team 1727 will have a blast no matter what happens!!!

It's always nice to get that team nobody thought about. We picked up 1398 in Palmetto (they aren't in Newton). As the #1 seed we had to find the darkhorse. 1398 and the #3 seed were twins. They had never been in an elimination, yet alone win, so I guess teams weren't looking their way. I'm glad we did:D
Say Hello to the 103rd seed worldwide: The Elm City Robo Squad!
Just out of curiosity, where were you able to find that statistic?

All,
Team 971 is checking in. The team has been busy practicing and fine tuning our bot. We had Jag reset code issues at SVR, didn't chain up the rear roller and didn't use our kickers effectively and we only manage to score 130 goals plus in 16 games.
If McMaster Carr would only deliver the dilithuim crystals before CMP I think we will get our cloaking device online and you won't see us coming or going. :)
Drop by our pit and say hi or come and scout us during quals and you will be in for a treat.
Good luck to everybody.
Roy

I found that posted in the Whitepapers section. A kind volunteer grabbed all the data from US FIRST and compiled it into a worldwide ranking!

That's kind of neat, but teams that played in more than one regional are listed more than once, which makes the rankings a little... funny.
Also, I don't think he added +5 points per match won for those who competed in the first week. That single adjustment would move us from 353th to 63rd...
...so while it's cool, I think it needs to be taken with a bit of a grain of salt.

Yes. Karthik mentions this many, many times when he posts up this type of data.
While it's not accurate by any standards, it's still kinda fun!
Finally, team 2669 racked up the scores at the Israel Regional, and won that event.
...Newton!
It's going to be a blast. I appreciate the compliment about our goal scoring ability. We do have a kicker, too, but haven't had to use it a whole lot. Especially when teams like 67 or 2619 feed lots of balls up to us!
Our whole team is geeked for Atlanta. Does anyone know how many qualifying matches are planned?

im thinking either 9 or 10
Depending on how fast teams can get on and off the field for reset im guessing we might get up to 12, but that would be amazing speed or im just being over-optimistic
10 would still be amazing though for Championships :D

When the divisions were being setup several of us were able to see a test schedule with everyone having 10 matches. It also was setup with a 6 minute turnaround for every match. Therefore, I don't believe that we will see any more than 10 matches particularly if there are any field issues.
I believe it but you can always hope lol :]

Bill's Blog back in Octoberstated the goal was to get teams a minimum of 10 matches at all events. I would believe this is the number based on 85 teams to a division and the amount of time we have matches for.

Usually at champs teams get 7 matches, but with the addition of Thursday matches 9-10 is most likely. Highly doubt there will be more than 10 matches, especially with the field problems we've been having (hopefully these problems will be non-existent).

Team 1922 is excited to be making it's first trip to Atlanta as Granite State finalist and Boston Regional winner. Last trip here was as rookie all-star. This time we are coming to play.
Tin Man is a powerful force from the midfield with a quick and efficient kicker with great mobility. Can't wait to play with the big dogs.
Also need to give a big shout out to the other Newton New Hampshire teams; 151 (Tough Techs), 166 (Chop Shop), and 1073 (The Force & Granite State regional winner!).
Look forward to a great competition.

I think NYC was the only one that had 8, everyone else had 9 or more. FIRST really tried to increase the qualification rounds for everyone this year.
Israel I think had 33 that counted. They had a full day before those 3, but the teams decided to throw those out due to the communication issues they had all over the place.

oh yea, we won the regional while playing 6 games only (tba's faking games :ahh: )
If he's the one who dies his hair blue for Championship we definitely had him on Newton last year.
Yep, he's got the blue hair. Well, it seems like we have a chance, then! Thanks for telling me.

FYI Blair always does Galileo and I think Chiniqua did Archimededs until last year when unless I'm mistaken she didn't do a Championship field.
The MC for Newton will be Chiniqua
You will also see Dave Verbrugge MC'ing on all the fields

That's 4 for 4 this season, we've had him as an MC!
Archimedes just got better!!
We're deciding whether we want to play an all-out offensive game.
We played mostly defense in NJ, and then switched to playing more offensively in NY, and did overwhelming better in NY.
We are currently working on improving our kicker (we will be quite busy Wed. night :p )

I certainly appreciate the props, and glad to hear when people enjoy my announcing. I will be volunteering for FTC Wednesday-Saturday morning, I'm hoping to catch the Newton eliminations. I'd be honored to announce at the Championship Event someday, FTC or FRC, but the ones that currently do it are the best announcers and emcees FIRST has to offer. Chiniqua, Mark, Blair, Don, Andy, So on and so forth do a great job every year, no matter which one of them you get, you're in for a fun event.

Similar to what I did in previous years (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=735425&postcount=165), I ran through 200 simulated qualification match schedules (all 144 matches, using the FIRST match generator). I used each team's average opr (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=85090) for their contribution to a match. I calculated the standings for each of the 200 simulated qualification schedules, and then looked at some statistics from the aggregate results.

Joe Ross, what order are those teams in? All I know is that it goes from generally higher seed to generally lower, but there are discrepancies. 2619 looks like it's in worse shape than 910, yet it is higher on the list.
Oh, and it'd be great for 67 to seed first! (too bad that never happens in Atlanta)

We hope to be another one of those not-really-considered teams that surprises people in a 'Wow! Where did they come from?!?' sort of way. Most people don't really know us, as we only do the FLR and our appearance at nationals last year was more for the taste of it, and we were... less than stellar.
I know we've got some monster teams on Newton (and I say that with nothing but admiration), but we hope to hold our own against the big boys and really strut our stuff. :D

Our team had to notice when you beat us in the quals at MSC. There was even more noticing going on when your alliance racked up 20 and then 17 points in the quarterfinals against 27, 201, and 703. That is sick! Semis were so close. I think in the first match the scores were never more than a point away from each other. If it weren't for that 2 point penalty (don't carry the ball!) it would have been a tie game.
1718 and 1551, I feel your pain! We, too, think we have a fine machine this year and hope to get some attention in Atlanta. We did well in CT, and had we not had strange mishaps in two matches (once lost communication with the field, once had our kicker get stuck out, both now corrected) could well have been an alliance captain. We have a reliable autonomous mode (scoring 1-2 balls per match), scored 3-5 balls in teleop and can supply balls from midfield easily, and hung successfully (and quickly) in every attempt. We're looking forward to playing again now that our minor kinks have been worked out!

Ya team 33 noticed you from the get-go. You were very impressive, and with a little luck we could have had 67, 217, 2612 at states. I predict you will go far in Atlanta this year, seriously, You Have A Good Robot!

Pre-scouting?
Pre-scouting is spending endless hours being frustrated due to the fact that the blue alliance does not seem to post any videos this year.
In all seriousness, its using resources like thebluealliance.net, youtube, CD, etc. to see what other teams can do, what they're good at, how they're successful, how to work with them, how to beat them, you get the point. The purpose is to get a thorough idea of what you'll be seeing at the championship, mostly in your division, but some elsewhere in the event Einstein is in the cards for u. The more u see the and the better u scout, the more prepared u will be and the less surprised u will be.
Some say u need luck to reach Einstein. I say "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." your robot and your scouting are your preparation, and u have earned yourself and opportunity in Atlanta, who's to say u cant get lucky? It all depends on the quality of your preparation, and how u respond to opportunity.
I do that for fun, not because my team tells me to do it.
However, I do know the extreme importance of scouting. It's all you do on 67, if you're not in the pits. We have up to six people watching every robot on the field, during every match. Even in our own matches, we still have scouting groups keep track of all the other robots, even if they're very distracted by what our robot is doing. We also scout elimination matches, in order to know how an alliance works together and what we must do to defeat them.
I agree that pre-scouting is a good way to get a feel for a division, but it is not possible to come up with a decent alliance selection list just by watching demo videos and video from other tournaments.

It's in the order of highest weighted average OPR to lowest weighted average OPR. I'm sure if given enough matches per schedule or enough iterations of match schedules it would even out.

There has been quite a bit of talk about 125 from teams that were not in boston. With much respect to the hard work of team 125: to me, Their robot seemed to be a great concept but failed to perform consistently. I was watching when a previously posted video of them on the practice field was being filmed and the whole team would get excited when it worked. With a strong alliance 125 could provide a huge boost but if put on the weaker alliance it can not tip the scales. In Atlanta I expect to see some big big wins and about as many disappointing losses. I hope that their modifications make the more consistent and more like team 496 which approached attempted to solve the game problem in the same way as 125 and produced some serious results. This being said, Team 1922 is looking forward to working with 125 in Atlanta because we think with a strong midfield robot [Like us ;)] starting in the defensive end and moving up to mid field we could have a phenomenal match assuming we had a decent robot in the offensive herding in 125s returns into the goal.
Does anyone else think that team 20 is being overlooked. They are probably the most accurate robot I saw at BAE or Boston and are very maneuverable. With their improved kicker i expect to see massive results from them in ATL.

Oh, don't misunderstand -- for better or worse, I'm certain that every team will have a very good idea of how good everyone's robot is going in to alliance selection.
At FLR, we had every intention of picking 1559 as our 'third' bot (after Thunderchickens) on Saturday morning, as they were very very good and well-suited to compliment our robot's play strategy... but in their last few qualifying matches they started having communication glitches with the field, and in the end we felt as if we just couldn't risk that happening in the tournament.
If our team -- with a whopping 18 people -- do at least that level of scouting so that you are aware not just of how well a robot has done, but how it is currently doing, I'm most certain that other teams are doing exactly the same thing.

I have to mirror what everyone has been saying about the robots on Newton. Finals are going to be a lot of fun looking at the teams that are on this division. As for the scouting it always surprises me how much video helps in targeting robots that you would otherwise have missed until you get to Atlanta. Numbers and statistics always help in organizing a list of bots you want to scout, but videos are so much more exciting to see.
So, in the same manner I will place a video of some highlights of our robot this year. Enjoy!

Ugh! Don't remind me...we work hard not to get the carry the ball penalties; we didn't get one all weekend long and it decided to pop up at the worst time! :ahh: Those were definitely a couple of fun, closely played matches - I wish we could have extended the series another game or two.

Vid of robots outside of competition is nice, but what I have noticed is that sometimes a robot works really well in the vid, but when it gets to competition being knocked around and having other robots get in the way, they don't seam to be as effective. I love to see what other teams have done with their bot on vids, but if it's not a competition vid, I take it with a grain of salt for efficiency. Just because it might work great in competition or it might not work at all.
Also 1551 I know you guys will do well, winning FLR is no small feat, lots of talent go to FLR. But I have to admit I was screaming bloody murder at my desk when I saw you guys knocked my Alumi (145) out of the number 1 seed =P. I, too, was screaming... but not bloody murder.
The announcer had said the previous match that 145 was definitely the #1 seed because nobody in the last match was close enough to them to take it away. 25 QPs looked awfully far away, but when you win a game 10-8... :D

Here is a video of us at wpi. I see where you are coming from because it is really hard to get competition video this year. This is just from quarters on I believe. We improved greatly from Manchester to wpi with the suction cups and now have improved our ball magnet, kicker, and added autonomous.
Hope this helps! As a fellow scout I look for all the video I can get, so anyone who posts any video it will be appreciated :) good luck all and see ya soon!

I was looking at all the standings and Newton jumped out at me with 11 teams not getting scores registered for three matches. I can understand a couple not getting a third match in yesterday, but 11. So this means alot of red cards and a couple of teams not getting to the field. Two teams didn't play any matches. Does anyone know if the teams just didn't make it to Atlanta or are they having trouble with inspections? Hope they are up and running today.

I have heard that the teams that play an extra game that doesn't count (some teams must play 11 games so all can at least play 10 games) 3rd match is the game for them that doesn't count. I am not sure about this but this could contribute to the 11 teams that did not count.

Semifinal 2, match 4: Did anybody else find it odd that 343 tried to hang so early? I just found it strange that they would take themselves out of play effectively so early; especially considering how close the last three matches were. At the end when it was revealed that they got a penalty and a yellow card for overextention it made it even more perplexing. They won, so I guess it really doesn't matter. I was just curious.
Any thoughts or things that I overlooked?

I was a GREAT call by their driving team and coach to hook up to the tower to not incur more penalties than the one they did. Smart move!

yes, it was a total accident. there are two switches to deploy the hanger, and at the beginning of the match, they were both flipped up. so, the second that telop started, it went out. so, i was hoping to avoid a yellow card by going to the tower and hanging immidiately instead of playing the match... but that didn't happen. o well, we still won the match ;)

They accidentally deployed early - still not sure why (I never asked them what happened afterwards). They/we decided they should hang to avoid taking any further penalties. Somehow we still managed to score enough to win it. That was an extremely tough semifinals - 2 ties and then both wins came down to the hanging robots at the end. We had to play the last 3 back to back to back because 294/67/177 were already done. Then we had the 3 finals matches. There was one timeout in there, but our drive motors were plenty hot (no pun intended) by the end of finals. Congrats to 294/67/177 - you guys were fun to play against. And of course, congrats on the BIG win on Einstein - Awesom job!

Team 668 had a blast again at the Championships. Newton was a great division with a lot of amazing teams.
First off, I'm extremely pleased at how well the whole event went. Our robot was not as great as we wanted it to be after SD and SVR, so we made one major change to our robot in the weeks between SVR and the Championships that we think made us a much better bot. Just getting into the playoffs and making it to the semis was great.
Our alliance partners, 2757 and 20 were amazing. 2757 played outstanding defense on two bots in the quarters and 20 kept feeding us balls in the offensive zone to score. 2137, 971, and 525, you guys made those quarterfinal matches intense and it was great playing with you. 294, 67, and 177 you guys were amazing out there and you truly deserved to win it all.
One more thing I'd like to add: being in Qual 87 was a whole lot of fun. Playing with 67 and 971 (right after a match against them, too) was great and it was up against some great teams in 910, 525, and 932. That was one of the best matches we've played in this season.
From a ref's viewpoint, Newton was a GREAT field! It is never fun to call a penalty, especially one for a small mistake or a momentary lapse in judgement (love you HOT! ::safety:: ) but all of you handled everything like the professionals you are. Thanks to all of you and too bad they don't let both finalist teams go to Einstein.....We may have gotten to see another Newton finals!

yes, it was a total accident. there are two switches to deploy the hanger, and at the beginning of the match, they were both flipped up. so, the second that telop started, it went out. so, i was hoping to avoid a yellow card by going to the tower and hanging immidiately instead of playing the match... but that didn't happen. o well, we still won the match
Wow, considering it wasn't intended you guys pulled it off like champs. Watching from the webcast I never would have guessed that something had gone wrong, you guys just took it in stride and didn't miss a beat. Impressive work!
I was watching newton from noon onward via webcast. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and couldn't have asked for a better show! Congratulations to all who competed, especially 67, 294, and 177 for their amazing victory. Great show, and hopefully next year we'll be able to make it down to St. Louis to face off with all you amazing teams!

Slight mental lapse. They forgot to return the deploy switch to off before the match started. The stress down there can be extreme!
thats what it was. we couldn't figure it out. in the previous match our defensive robot had tried to pin one robot in to goal to prevent scoring and hanging points. we assumed it was to avoid that. good match though.

Wow, that was a fun ride. A big thanks to 1718 and 16 for being great partners, helping us when we needed it, and keeping our spirits up. Putting up 34 pre-penatly points was awesome.
Also a big congratulations to the national champs that this talent packed division produced. 294, 67, and 177 were great to play against and very hard to beat as the other division champs also found out. It was also fun to play a little D against HOT.
The 1922, 1073, 102 alliance was tough to beat too. Two ties and having to run back to back to back was crazy!
Again, thanks to "Pi Bombs in Motion" for the wild ride. Let's do it again next year in St. Louis!
Edit:
Scoring 34 takes it's toll on the human players.

"Ridiculous" is probably the best way to describe this guy. I think he goes by Sir Charles?

Sir Charles is THE MAN. Qualification matches were never a bit dull when he was announcing. Most entertaining matches. Ever. We loved this guy.:D

I happened to have the media pass for our team for that match. I forgot how much defense was going on all over the field - makes the final score even more impressive. I took some video, but it's identical to the opening shot during autonomous (with us bouncing two balls off of 932 instead of scoring them.)
Who is the announcer on the right? He Emceed in Manchester and Boston and did a great job. My personal favorite. (The guy on the left was pretty good too)

This is the match that got us worried because it gave the winning alliance 58 ranking points and put 67 back in the hunt with us for the #1 seed! We kept asking ourselves...how did they pull themselves back into it? Now I know!
Awesome match to all in it!
