View Full Version : Snoop Dogg in ATL?

I saw on Snoop Dogg's myspace that he would be in Atlanta Georgia one night during the competition. Two days later when I went to show one of my team mates it was gone. I'm guessing that he is the big surprise at the end we keep hearing about and FIRST told him to take it off his Myspace so no one knows about it. Did anyone else see it?
SSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH don't ruin the suprise!
Snoop Dogg sounds like an awesome surprise.

I don't see how an esteemed organization such as FIRST would ever even consider inviting any of the clowns mentioned above. Not the best role models.

I think we're forgetting the obvious...
Dean Simmons and the Kamen Brothers, anyone?
I don't believe that there are many musicians of today's world that are good examples.
(This is based on the "popular" artists of today's music industry who are more apt to influence the youth majority.)
Please excuse the generalization. I am fully aware that there are countless musicians in the world that provide for the greater good.
I don't see how an esteemed organization such as FIRST would ever even consider inviting any of the clowns mentioned above. Not the best role models.
I agree. My first thought was "FIRST would NOT go for that..."
Fun coincidence, though. (just like that Lady Gaga concert the day before IRI, but that's not FIRST sponsored either...)
Hey gaiz, I herd that Dean Kamen will be there. liek OMG, that guy who invented the segway!

Hopefully Snoop and Cudi come and preform their newest hit "That Tree." That would be so sweet to hear.
Idk how many other peopole think this, but I'd leave the finally if snoop was rapping. Fortunately for people like me, THRICE is playing down the street from the Georgia Dome thursday night. It's going to be a tough decision between THRICE and roboprom . . ..

Oh man, that would be a treat. I have not seen these guys play in a LONG time.
I don't know anything about Snoop Dogg's "music", but I want to say this:
If the lyrics are something that your grandma would cringe at, it's a pretty good bet that it will not be played at a FIRST event. My guess is that there would be a pre-event screening that the performer in question would have to do before being allowed to perform at the event.
Here's why: Many, many years ago, during the Epcot days (fortunately for me, one I wasn't at--but my dad was and told me a little bit about it), someone played a video during the closing ceremony that hadn't been pre-screened by FIRST. As soon as it was over, FIRST apologized for showing it, because it was inappropriate. Ever since, videos have been pre-screened. Live performances would at least need to give some indication that it would remain reasonably family-friendly.
My guess is that the rumored visit to Atlanta has nothing whatsoever to do with FIRST, or was canceled at some point. Atlanta is a big city, with dozens of venues and many events (like car shows or home and garden shows, to name a couple) going on. If somebody says they'll be in a city of that size, and you want to meet them, it'll be almost impossible to find them, unless you know exactly where they're going to be. We don't know if he'd be coming for FIRST, for the Braves, for a concert, for fun (what? musician going somewhere for fun?), or what.
I'll see you all after you get back from the Island of Conclusions; have a nice swim.:p [bonus points if you get the reference]

I don't believe that there are many musicians of today's world that are good examples.
You're basing your conclusions on a small subset of popular musicians' tabloid reputations, rather than the whole picture. "Musicians" are a lot more than Britney Spears, 50 Cent, James Hetfield, and Trace Adkins. There are countless musicians who do live perfectly admirable lives who are good examples, in all genres of music. I can't imagine why you'd say someone like Itzhak Perlman wouldn't be a good example.
On a related note, there's no need to be cruel or insulting to Snoop Dogg's music in this thread. It's justifiable to say that you don't like it or you'd prefer him to appear. It's logical to point out the reasons he probably won't appear. However, you don't need to insult one of the most successful and influential musicians of the past 20 years. This isn't the place to have that debate.

You guys need more perspective in your lives. You who are so quick to bash the guy do realize that acknowledgment of FRC by someone like Snoop Dogg would be big publicity and a big statement for both FRC and Snoop right? Yeah.

It would be cool to have him speak at the Championships. Some people may argue he may not be the best role model. but he could be one of those voices that could convince people who want to be rappers to be engineers instead...
Never mind the artist Snoop Dog, if Reel Big Fish was to perform Snoop Dog, Baby in ATL that would wicked sweet!

Wouldn't that be something?
If RBF or SM performed for FIRST that would absolutely make Hotlanta perfect, besides maybe a few more bands and free ice cream. XD
If he does make an appearance, it doesn't necessarily have to be a performance, it can just be a small speech.
And with Dean's task this year of getting more people to come out to the competitions, I can see this as a method toward increasing audience size.

.The Whiner Squadron is never happy.
Maybe when the Large Hadron Collider discovers the Higgs Boson or antimatter we can implode these black holes of happiness. Until then, the only way to not fall victim to the Whiner Squadron is to steer clear of their event horizon, unless you want to get burned by their quasers of curmudgeon fury.

I would say that some Glitch Mob Glitch-Hop songs eclipse his technical ability. I mean, they rock shows with three multi touch Lemurs linked to ableton live, as well as a crapton of MIDI controllers and laptops, all synced with MIDI timecode... Let's see Snoop beat that.
I think you're right, but of course as a Rumor Mill thread this is supposed to be completely ridiculous.

The bonus points have been claimed.
Just to be clear: I have nothing against rap, rappers, or any other musicians/genres, provided that their lyrics/stage acts are reasonably clean. Rap has a reputation for not being reasonably clean. Not having heard Snoop Dogg or many other rappers, to the best of my knowledge, I choose to err on the side of caution.
I'm with Nawaid and Aniba. Art, Travis, Joe, Akash, and some others might remember that a few years ago (I think it was around 2003-2004), someone got a video of Will Smith talking about technology, directed towards FIRSTers. I would guess that something similar is afoot, or else that Snoop Dogg was thinking about going to another event in Atlanta (of which there are most likely several that would attract him in their general direction as strongly as FIRST would). Kind of doubt that there would be a performance.
Personally, I think the surprise is that the Finals/Awards ceremony will actually end on time this year.:ahh:

Last time i checked, they use a new pristine field for Einstein. With all the field troubles that we have had through the regional process. I would gladly put money up against that statement any day.
I think it would be more reasonable to say that by the time the Einstein teams get to the finale after packing up their crates. The fireworks show will be over...

Correction: DISNEY had Mandy Moore in 2002. Half of the people rushed to see her play, the other half, including me, rushed to Epcot to get food and get on attractions.

I looked at a few of the more recent ones. No way, no how on performance. (I counted at least 4 words that a number of folks would take offense to, appearing multiple times.) I don't think you'll be eating any shoes anytime soon, Joe.
I'll add an offer to shave my head to Joe's shoe-eating offer if he performs at any FIRST event.
Personally, I think the surprise is that the Finals/Awards ceremony will actually end on time this year.:ahh:
I think we can say that wasn't the surprise.
On a side note: Anyone down there want to share with us back home what the surprise was.
I wasn't at Championships this year, so I didn't get to see the surprise. Was it the rumored 2Pac appearance? Maybe next year they could even get the Notorious B.I.G. to perform. That would be amazing in more than one way!
