We're getting ready for our 16-hour drive down to ATL, and were wondering what music/songs you would recommend for the ride?

Something that gets you ready and in the mood for the Championship?

AC/DC's Live album burns an hour and has good versions of classic robotics songs.

Daft Punk's Discovery is an all time favorite of robotics nerds without an ounce of rhythm :P, and it's decent driving music.

I always enjoy some Foxy Shazam, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Hot Hot Heat, The Shins, and Yeasayer on long rides. Nice mix of pump you up, and calming music.

You can't be a real aspiring engineer without learning to appreciate Rush - the official music of the, how shall we say, cerebrally inclined. If you download one song, make it "Vital Signs", which is the most appropriate for robotics (and the inspiration for my signature, btw).

Or, if you want something fun and out-of-the-ordinary, try "Tommy the Cat" by Primus.

Maybe some Led Zeppelin

You guys are insanee for driving down!

We were pulling for plane this year, but our school decided against it. Oh well! Least it'll give us some time to strategize, maybe

And thanks everyone for all of the great suggestions!

And you can play it with it's movie. Also awesome.

Given your name, I should have definitely mentioned ANY Iron Maiden songs, but in particular The Trooper, Fear Of The Dark, Flight Of Icarus, The Wicker Man, and of course The Number Of The Beast

Now you're talking. I took a trip to London a couple years ago and spent an entire day visiting all of the pubs Iron Maiden played before making it big. You could say I'm a bit of a fan. I just hope the IRI finishes on time this year because I'm going to have to leave in time for the show at the Electric Knob that Saturday.

You should also throw in Aces High (in honor of 176), Wrathchild (good classic with punk influence), and Rainmaker (plus a bazillion others).

Edit: I just thought of some other fun songs with technology-type themes:

"Screaming in Digital" - Queensryche
"Analog Kid" - Rush
"Machine Men" - Bruce Dickenson
"Electric Funeral" - Black Sabbath
"NM156" - Queensryche
"Machinehead" - Bush

I'll think of some more, just had a brain cramp...

Speaking of Iron Maiden, one of our team's obvious favorite songs is "Aces High" by the same band. Nothing gets us pumped more than singing our own theme song :p

You know, I read the title to this thread and I started thinking, which road?
Which road to the Championship Event?

The long road that has led to the Championship? That road? The road that for some teams, took years to travel for their first time visit? That road?

Or the actual road to the Championship - which is what this thread is about. That road? The road that buses and caravans are traveling? Trucks hauling not only their team's stuff but the stuff for the teams in the area? That road?

Or could it have been the road less traveled? That road? The road where decisions are hard, challenges are great, our human character is forged and reveals exactly who we are and what we stand for. That road?

And on all those roads, I decided it would have to be - The Beatles, The Eagles, Joni Mitchell, and Peter, Paul, and Mary. You get that - then you get it. :)

Safe travels everyone - enjoy the ride!

You know, I read the title to this thread and I started thinking, which road?

Great artists to accompany us on all the roads that lead to FIRST.

And I am glad to hear that the title provoked such thoughts, and envoked such an inspirational post! :)

You should also throw in Aces High (in honor of 176), Wrathchild (good classic with punk influence), and Rainmaker (plus a bazillion others).

Adding it to our playlist at this moment! :D Just for the Aces!
(It's also a good song!)

Just to add to Jane's wonderful comments, if you drive all night, how can you not wake the team up to what has been called the most important political rock statement ever played!

Although he was to close the concert on Sunday night, it was Monday morning at 9:00am before he went on stage. He was advised not to play it...it was everything that the 400,000 attendees were protesting against.

And, at Woodstock, Jimi Hendrix played the Star Spangled Banner. It was a super hit and still raises hairs on my arms when I hear it.

(and then if there are really any old time rockers on the bus, you could actually think "alliances" and play Joe Cocker's Woodstock version of "With a Little Help from my Friends"!) :)

We were pulling for plane this year, but our school decided against it. Oh well! Least it'll give us some time to strategize, maybe

And thanks everyone for all of the great suggestions!

Oh wow that stinks. I would die if I had a 16 hour drive with all-girls.

I'm new to this whole gig...but I would have to agree with Chris...you definitely need some Rush..."Fly by Night"...it's certainly appropriate for the long drive. Some of our team is driving as well. Let's just say that it's some extra strategy and planning time!!

[Relient K Block: Be My Escape, Forward Motion, High of 75, I Need You, The Lining Is Silver, Must Have Done Something Right, The One I'm Waiting For, Sadie Hawkins Dance, Which to Bury, Us or the Hatchet?, Who I Am Hates Who I've Been]
...

I'm always up for a good Relient K block. I would also say a good Skillet block with Rebirthing, Falling Inside the Black, Hero, Monster, Awake, Collide, and Savior would be good. Along with a nice Thousand Foot Krutch block with Phenomenon, New Design, Quicken, Move, Hit the Floor, and Fire It Up. :D

I always enjoy the occasional 80's song in there. Take On Me perhaps? We Built This City? You get the picture. ;)

And whoever said Muse's "Uprising", thanks for getting that song stuck in my head again. It's a good one.
