Greetings!
I had an interesting conversation with a fellow from Stone Ridge Technology (http://www.stoneridgetechnology.com/) yesterday. His company was planning to build a Beagleboard clone (1GHz ARM OMAP 3530) with a Xilinx FPGA attached for prototyping use. However, after I spoke about FIRST and its goals, he was interested in perhaps spinning the board with FIRST teams in mind. Does anyone on CD know who I need to put him in contact with to talk about requirements for the KOP? Please PM me.
TIA,
Mike

Kate Pillotte at first HQ is in charge of the KOP and would be the appropriate contact.

I'd be happy to informally talk with him, I've put a few boards in the KoP.
Kate is easy to work with, it is largely a matter of figuring out how to make a board student-proof.

I don't believe that is possible :P

It's like I was told the first day of my first internship, "You can't make anything idiot proof, they always make a better idiot."

Yeah, it's probably impossible to make things completely student proof. But then, the failures can be better teachers than the successes :D
BTW, I've been in contact with Kate and she's looking into how we might get something going. It would be really interesting to be able to add the DSP capabilities of the TI OMAP (ARM Cortex A8 @ 700+ MHz) and a Xilinx FPGA to the mix for FIRST. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks,
Mike

You might find the talk about the KOP in the video referenced in the following link helpful: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showpost.php?p=962541&postcount=87
