Below are the teams for the 2010 IRI.
We have a great mix of teams from all around FIRST.
As you can tell, we are expanding the field to 82 teams.
We had quick responses from teams, declines from a few, and added a few from the wait list. With the match timing of this game, we believe we can still have plenty of matches and keep a resonable pace.
We will post details soon on the hotels, schedule, scholarships, awards and other activities.

Well it will be good practice if I ever get lead que on a championship division.

Can't wait to see all these teams in action.

I got bored...
IRI predictions bracket, assuming no large scale seeding system changes. Probably a bit very inaccurate. I rushed through it.

35 694 StuyPulse
I was just notified that team 694 cannot attend IRI. The students on the team were very excited about attending, but this just can't happen this year. We (IRI organizers) appreciate the fact that they let us know as soon as they could with their changed status.
Sincerely,
Andy B.

The t-shirt phrase chosen last year is highly appropriate now: "SO MUCH MORE"

So people are crowning 1114 and 469 again for IRI, I wish you guys would have learned your lesson from Championships. IRI is almost impossible to predict winners. Frankly I'm tired of people being afraid of teams and handing them things. The team list here is awesome, I am sure the IRI committee will put on another great event.

I will be right there with you Ed. BTW, do you need a ride there? I will be driving right by you (coming from Albany).
IRI is almost impossible to predict winners. I will, however, make a prediction:
Neither 67 nor 294 will win the final match.
Yep, you heard me: neither of the World Champions attending will win IRI. I can't think of a time when a new World Champion won IRI in the same year...

Strong words. Prove him wrong then! No one is going to hand 1114/469 anything. They, like every other team there, are going to have to work their butts off to earn it. Play hard, play fair, and, when all is done, take pride in how you did.
Plus, I ain't afraid of no Simbot! (their singing on the other hand, may scare me)

I will go bold and say 1114 and 469 won't be in the finals. Hey, they lost both matches on einstein and they have a huge possibility to be faced by bigger competition. They have too much of a target on them and I'm sure teams have/are figuring out ways to beat them.
I have a feeling an alliance in the bottom 4 will win IRI this year.
This year will be so much fun!

What makes you think I'm "afraid" of either team? I just was making predictions - and 1114 - 469 is a fairly logical prediction, considering this game's fairly accurate seeding system, and 1114's skill. My team didn't even get in...

That is a pity! Personally one of the things that I was exited about IRI was to meet The Cheesy Poofs! After all the times in Atlanta and other Regionals that people had mistaken us for 254... I couldn't help but wonder who could inspire so many FRC spectators to immediately think of The Cheesy Poofs when they saw cheeseheads!
To comment on previous predictions, I believe that all of the teams that shall be contending at IRI have an honest chance at victory, and to reinforce that statement I want to mention something I noticed while looking through the records of IRI... No team has won it more than once. Many teams have gotten close, but the closest that anyone has gotten was 1625, who got to the finals in 2008 and then won last year. Perhaps they will win again? Perhaps as everyone seems to fear 1114 and 469 will take the spotlight, which they will undoubtly have deserved if they do win. Whatever the final score is, I know my team will be honored to play with and against all of the teams at this invitational event.
My $0.02
Sincerely,
Petrie

I agree with your point. Since IRI is so deep, making predictions is pretty much guaranteed to be impossible (who thought 980 and 832 would be the top two seeds last year?). But to be completely pedantic, many teams have won the IRI more than once. 1625 won in 2006 and 2009. 469 won it 2002(?), 2003, 2004, and 2009. 68 won it in one of those older years and 2008 and 2009. 111 won in 2007 (and 2003?) 71 won in 2004 and 2006.

Oh that is my mistake! I should have clarified I meant the last three years. 2007, 2008, and 2009. My scouting did not go further back than 2007.
Another factor to look into is the winners of Einstein this year. I do not know if there is a connection in previous years about who won Einstein and who won IRI?

There's a good connection. The more unbeatable you are, the less chance you have of winning IRI. 71 didn't win IRI in either 2001 or 2002 and 1114 didn't win IRI in 2008 are a few examples.
Only 2 championship winners have won IRI the same year, 469 in 2003 and 71 in 2004.

Yeah... My old team (308) back when I was on it won IRI twice (2001 and 2003). Both times was with 469 as a partner (but 308 was the alliance captain :) ).

We've only been to IRI 4 times, so let's see if we can bump that win record up over 50%
Since IRI is so deep, making predictions is pretty much guaranteed to be impossible.
It's true. I started compiling a rough draft of my fantasy first list, and I have teams that were among the favorites to win Atlanta that aren't even in my top 10.
Since there are so many good teams, sometimes all 8 of the alliances are good enough to have won Atlanta (or at least the top 6).

Nice list of teams attending. Looks like 16 of these teams are coming to the MARC also. These teams are getting a lot of experience during the summer. NICE

Interestingly, you'd have to go back to 2007 to find an IRI Champion alliance without a member that was on Einstein that year.
An interesting trend that was shattered this year: One of the winners of IRI since 2007 went on to win the Championship Event the next year. 1114 in 2007, 67 in 2008, and it looked like 1625 or 469's turn this year... However, if you amend that slightly to "appearing in the final match of the championship", you can include 469's run this year as well as 71's 2006 IRI - 2007 run.
I got bored...

Wow, thanks. Haha. I hope we do this well. We are using our 2011 drivers, but IRI will be their third event (after one this weekend and TARDEC), so I'll confirm that won't be a major factor.
Assuming your alliances, I think 6 could certainly upset 3, and also, if it comes to 1 v 2, I think 2 would win. 1718 built an epic machine this year, that could easily surpass your prediction. Not taking anything away from your 3rd alliance, but I believe that #6 would be hard to beat.
As for 1 v 2, I think 67, 33, and 51 would be powerhouse, though 51 could be replaced by 469, 2337, 25, etc. That alliance would have a great chance of upsetting your 1114-469-1732. Certainly 1732 would not present the opportunity 294 so intelligently took on Einstein (shove into goal), but I think the defense of 67 or 33 would be sufficient to at least quiet 469 and its partners (especially with both teams' strategic prowess), while the remaining robots would score like mad. With all three 'bots able to hang, that would be quite the powerful alliance.
As for your selections, I don't think the diverting ability will be seen quite so highly at IRI, given the premier diverter's defeat at the Championship (despite many, many impressive performances to make it that far).
Just some thoughts.
Edit: It appears this was something of a very late reply. My apologies.

They only lost at Championships because of circumstance-poor luck and technical difficulties on 469's part. They still have the most dominant robot and toughest elimination strategy. I would not expect anything to change.

If the first seed fails to pick 469, they will lose the IRI. I guarantee it.

Why they lost is questionable. Certainly their diverter wasn't quite calibrated exactly right, and perhaps they had poor luck, but that doesn't mean other factors aren't worth consideration. Regardless, I think ability to divert will be considered less highly following the results of this year's championship event.

I'm not going to argue.

294 at the bottom of the list? Ouch.
After TARDEC I see alot of teams who were doing just "good" during the season do "great" during the off-season. It is making me REALLY excited! This is going to be one heck of a competition, and one heck of a talent show...lol, you'll see :D
