Waterford
I'm thinking that with Niles only having 20 teams and Waterford having 16, push Waterford back to the last possible day, and Niles the day before, to allow fill time. Changes are in italic.
Redrafts: If a number of people think that a redraft of a given event in necessary (WPI, Sacramento, and some others are being considered--see the waiver discussion), they'd have to be done on the 24th or the 26th, or have a 3-a-day, or push redrafting into Week 1 of build.
Michigan State Championship will happen right before competition Week 6 starts, and the Championship drafts will be the weekend before the Championship begins.

I like doing one on the 24th, one on the 26th, and the rest on December 31st and January 1st. If you're busy that gives you PLENTY of time to make lists.
I can run the redrafts as I have no classes (duh) and I'm one of the one's pushing for them so it would be unfair of me to push work onto someone else. That being said I'm totally okay with either being told not to at all or having someone else draft them if for whatever reason they'd rather I not.
December 24th WPI
December 26th Pittsburgh
December 31st Alamo / San Diego
January 1st Sacramento / Lone Star
Is this okay?
Just a reminder to everyone...
Putting it out there early:
Due to being occupied with traveling at the time of the draft I will not be available to run the Hawaiian regional draft on the 23rd nor the Oregon regional draft on the 26th so I will need someone else to run those drafts on those days.
Quick note on the reason for the redrafts: A bunch of powerhouses entered the events in question in the last week or so. Rather than doing the waiver process for all of them (lots of claims, lots of work), we're thinking a redraft would be in order.
We might also be able to slip one in tomorrow, but it's short notice.
I'll go ahead and do tomorrow night.

One last notification / asking posts... If there aren't any objections I'd like to do this.
If possible could I have people's old lists in case they don't get a new one in so they can get kind of sort of close to what they want?
I'd say let's at least go ahead with WPI and Pittsburgh, then see where we're at afterwards. I'll see what lists I have in my inbox for WPI and make sure you get them.

My two cents on the redrafts.
It is not uncommon for teams to add an event or move events. Previously these teams went to whoever called dibs first. With the waiver list we are trying to make it fairer. A side effect of this is someone has to go through all the requests and assign teams to people.
To minimize the amount of extra effort, it makes sense to me that we should push 2 events a night earlier in drafting and have nights later that only have one event so as to allow room for redraft. Although this means there will be a better chance of more redrafts, it will probably eliminate any chance of a three draft night. This will also make us more receptive to the idea of redrafts.

Waivers don't really work if you want omre than one team is the problem.
Say I have A, B, and C
and D, E, and F are all better than C
I can't submit a request for D, if not D then E, and if not E than F for C. I have to give up A and B to put a claim in.
The entire point of the draft system is that we are picking teams one after another. When the bulk of an event's good teams come in after it, it makes the draft completely pointless.

I don't see why not. Fantasy sports leagues typically allow this and I did it for an event or two last week.

I do it like this: D (#x) or E (#x+1) or F (#x+2) for C. Substitute your own priorities in there. See, 3 claimed for 1, and if I get D, then E and F go to whoever else wants them.

Sorry, my Internet connection died about a half hour before the draft. I'll pick up the pieces right now.
I'm going to be visiting family Sunday-Wednesday with no internet access. I just sent my lists for those days to Ed, Eric, Alex, Kevin, and Chris. If anyone else will be running a draft, you will need to get my list from one of them (if there are any redrafts other than Pittsburgh, which I re-did the list for, use the original list if possible).

No more redrafts after this, Chris.
It's not fair to people who already picked beforehand and now have to pick all over again.

My personal feelings on redrafts is that they are unnecessary work.
We'll do it this time, but next year, I vote to nix them.
I'm seconding this, on multiple reasons:
1. I have been without internet for 4 days, but sent my pick lists in advance for the days I was missing. if there was a redraft that occured in this time I would have been unaware of it, and not able to send in a list.
2. I barely have time for this league as is. Doing redrafts comes back to the "I must check FF every evening if I want to be competitive" mentality.
3. When we redraft, we do it in a new random order. This will be the second time this policy bites me.
4. This is what the waivers was for. just because 4 new teams become added, I don't see it calling for a redraft. Put in for a waiver.

Ya, we have to redraft Pittsburg and i just won 1114 from waiver. Now I am not gonna get them.

Nope.
Okay, Pittsburgh is the last, final, redraft. No more, no less.
I'm really sorry that I threw such a curveball into this game and won't butt into future games.

No can do. I'm traveling, so Thursday is the absolute earliest I can run any drafts.
For anybody running drafts: Assume that I have a list in, but because I don't know who is running which draft, Ed gets all of them. You will need to check with Ed for the lists. I really, really, really hate getting random teams when I have a list in.

Sorry about that....
A few minutes ago, I checked PMs and found one that said that the check was made, but list not found. Lists are kind of on a "when I get them done" schedule for the next day or so, which may or may not correspond to draft patterns. (And something tells me that you'll be getting my Oregon list again.)

Enjoy your night off folks and have a Happy New Year. We'll resume drafting next year.

Word to the wise. If you paritcipated in both drafts tonight (all nine of you) you are safe for the season. For the other three, you need to participate in at least one draft over the next three days.

I've got you in the participating group, both drafts.
Incidentally, I think Barry and I are going to do very well in Utah, as (due to a bunch of folks taking randoms/not showing up) we split what I think are the top 4 teams between us...

Live picks count as participation, you are safe.
And to everyone, just because your safe doesn't mean you should start slacking.
And to everyone, just because your safe doesn't mean you should start slacking.
Yes. We do have 5 drafts coming after build season. MSC happens right before Week 6; the four Championship drafts happen the weekend before the event. Plus there are waivers, missing teams, and the occasional adding team to deal with.
i was just curious because i had missed a few drafts early in the year.

It's missing drafts in a row that gets you in trouble. Missing a draft here or a draft there isn't a big deal.

Oh, I always thought it was just a counter and if you missed a total of X, you would get kicked.
I forgot to send along a PM that I wanted randoms for Utah :/ I've been out of the house all day, and didn't get a chance to do it at lunch or at work.
I'll definitely get tomorrow's list in.

I'm not surprised he passed on Utah. The teams there aren't very well known.
Tim sent me a list for Buckeye.
I'll go ahead and plan on taking Colorado. I won't be able to run anything Thursday or Friday, though--other plans.
Has anyone in the past tried corelating average draft position with end standings? While I imagine most winners were those who picked better than others, especially with roughly equal average positions, it's more of an interesting statistical analysis.

I've thought about doing it, but haven't gotten around to it. I've been busy with other things in the league (like boot % and drafting software and my current project, a "little" device to help make lists).

I can run the Waterford draft if we still want to do it tonight. I wasn't sure I was going to be around so I didn't commit earlier.
I currently have lists from just Barry and rtfgnow for Waterford (and myself of course).
Do we want to just go ahead and run it to get it done before Kickoff or do we want to delay it because of the short notice of who was running it?

I'm available to do my picks live, so I guess that makes a grand total of three...
My guess is it'd probably be best to put it off until later, given the very short notice.

Due to crashing and burning on takeoff several times the last drafts took a WHOLE LOT longer than anticipated but they are done. With that the draft season is completed. Keep a close eye on the regionals as teams come and go constantly right up to practice day. Remember if you are going to trade make sure they are even trades. Take care of all waiver requests in the Waiver Thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86438).
Congratualations on making it through the long process and good luck this upcoming season.
Enjoy kickoff and get to work!
FYI: just because drafting is done does not mean that event lists are static. The waiver thread will also be carrying a list of who is missing teams, including which and where. Folks that are missing teams in a tier get a big boost to their waiver status! OTOH, sometimes really good teams sign up late. Find them and let everyone know by announcing in the waiver thread, and we'll see about getting them sent out.
Also, MSC is drafted sometime around Week 6, so after about Week 3 you might want to start figuring out who you might like.

Each of the Seattle events dropped 23 teams, I think we should wait and see if teams get added back into the pool.
Each of the Seattle events dropped 23 teams, I think we should wait and see if teams get added back into the pool.
Whoa!
That's a significant amount of teams!
I hope that's just a website error.
Seattle was transitioning teams to even the events out.
I've suggested that instead of the normal waiver procedure, the following be used:
If someone has a team that switches Seattle events, they get first claim in the new event, if they want that team, with no waiver penalty. If a team on each of their Seattle alliances switches, they can simply switch which event they have the teams for--an inter-event trade with themselves--again with no waiver penalty. Any team not claimed this way goes to normal waiver and is subject to normal waiver rules.
This would also apply to any other double events that had a team switch.
Seattle has realigned. Everyone was affected--at least one team switched per person (and for most people, that's one per event). So, here's the plan on that:
If you had a "balanced" switch (i.e., 1 team switched from each event), you will simply get those teams in their new event. For example, Alex had 2 teams go from Olympic to Cascade, and 2 from Cascade to Olympic. Those teams will be traded between events. We'll do that automatically. (Alex, Barry, dodar, Karibou, and Tim, this is you guys.)
If you did not have a "balanced" switch, you get to decide what to do. You can choose not to switch any teams over. You can choose to take all of the switched teams and drop a team you already have. You can choose to take fewer switched teams and go pot luck on waiver picks for missing teams. You make the decision. (If you weren't on the list above, this is you.)
Ed and Chris kept their Olympic alliances intact; Basel did the same for his Cascade alliance. There were a couple of brand-new teams, and a bunch of teams in the pool that traded, but we'll put those up after about a week to give folks time to make their decisions on current teams.
If you want to know which teams you have that switched, shoot Alex or myself a PM. We both have that data.
(I already posted this into the waiver thread.)

GAH! Do the powers that be in Seattle realize that they are upsetting the delicate balance that keep Fantasy FIRST intact? Have they no sense opf compassion for the amount of work the Fantasy FIRST moderators have to put in to fix the wrongs they have imposed upon us in the midst of build season? HAVE THEY NO SHAME?
GAH!
Hey, Ed, you got it easy. You only have to decide whether or not you want 3801 in Olympic, who you want to replace them with in Cascade, and if you do want them in Olympic, who you drop.
I gotta do the same thing for three separate teams.
I'll be going through Olympic and Cascade later tonight to make the automatic trades and mark the swapped teams. I use underline on the official scoring sheet, so that's what I'll probably use.
Am I missing something or are the players this year so dumb that we weren't picked up off of waivers the second we became available at boilermaker?

Like Chris, I've got a pretty powerful alliance. I'm thinking I might have room, though...
I've put the sheet with everybody's alliances up at http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/2447.
Please review your alliances and make sure I've got them right; also, if you have missing teams, it would be a good idea to replace them before the event, as I tend to give out random teams once the drafts lock.

Attention all.
Week one events start in less than a week. You all need to head over to http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/2447 and make sure your lists are correct. The lists lock at midnight the night before the event.
Eric, I think it is time to assign randoms in Toronto.
What do you mean by Toronto, Alex? Toronto's Week 5, and only one person has a currently-missing team there. (Josh Fox, East 2, 3683)
Week 1 missing teams:

Standard policy if you're missing teams: You choose a replacement. You can grab a team off the waiver list for that event, if you choose (but you go to the bottom of the waiver list), or any other available team. However, if you do not choose a replacement before the lists lock (the midnight before the event begins), then a random team will be assigned.
Oh, and while I'm on the topic of missing teams: Barry, Bethany, Josh, and Basel, you guys need to check your teams in Seattle! You all have an unbalanced number of teams switching events, so trades will not happen automatically! (Chris, this goes for you, too, but it's more of a reminder that you have two empty spots in Cascade to fill.) I'm certain that someone who has an empty spot would be more than happy to take some of the swapped teams off your hands via waiver, should it come to that.

Uh, yeah I meant Seattle. I'm still trying to catch up on my sleep.
I'm going to send a PM to make sure that they know that they may be losing all their swapped teams to the waiver list--give it a week, and if at least one or two don't show I'll be shocked. Barry's not going to let 2122 and 1425 go that easily, I'm sure, and I'm equally certain about Bethany and 1983 not parting if there's a chance of not parting.
Hello there...
Week One events locked at midnight last night, with no issues in Week One.
Now, Week 2 has some missing teams.
Chris is me: Superior, 2175
dodar: San Diego, 568; Israel, 3076
Basel A: Florida, 3589; Kansas City, 2359;
Josh Fox: Wisconsin, 279
If your name is on that list, any missing teams when the lists lock for Week 2 will be replaced with random teams.
Quick note: I have no clue what my Internet situation will be between Saturday and Friday morning next week. As such, scoring may be a little bit slow; as soon as I can get something up, I will. The current scoring sheet will be posted shortly.

I've decided that scoring the regionals manually takes way longer than I want to spend this competition season.
So I've decided to write a program to do it for me (or most of it at least, I'm not sure how to automate elim wins and losses and high score yet). What this means is that the regional score sheet for this week may not be up until tomorrow, but it should allow me to get regional score sheets up on Saturday night for every week from here on out.
If I get really adventurous I am going to try playing around with Excel macros to do the user scoring automatically as well, but that may be next weekend's projects

Impeccable timing. I've got the program working, but there is still some work to be done manually for each regional and I'm not sure I want to tackle it tonight.
I would expect team scoring to be up tomorrow morning. With Eric away, I'll probably go ahead and do the individual scoring as well after I get the team scores up.

Alex has a commanding lead, with consistent performances across the board. Basel isn't too far off the pace powered by getting the entire Alamo winning alliance with Chris and Eric right on his tail.

This is great. Are you planning on putting names next to the owners? I suggest a column for each tier in a column before the team number, then using a SUMIF() formula to automatically calculate the scores. If you want me to do a page as an example let me know, but i'm a tad busy this week with the Florida Regional.

My initial idea was to modify Eric's sheet so that the regional name was a merged cell and each team a player had was it's own cell. Then I was going to do a lookup using the teams and event code into a sheet containing a master list of all the teams, events and total scores.
Your idea sounds interesting and may be a bit easier, I'll look into it. I did the player scoring manually this week, looking to automate it will be something I work on either during the week or next weekend.

Final Week 1 scores are done. Both the team/event sheet and player sheet can be found here:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/papers/2463
I have automated the player scoring by making some modifications to Eric's workbook and using a long nasty formula to do matching by team and event to a single long list of the teams with event codes and scores.
I will be going through and fixing up the rest of the weeks to look the same as week 1 and trying to catch any team changes made that are not currently in my copy. I hope to have an updated copy posted by the end of the night.

Fully updated version posted.
Week 1 scores remained almost the same. I remembered I had listed WFFAs for Traverse City because FIRST listed (2) them. Michigan does not award WFFA at the district level according to the Michigan Rules Supplement and Kettering has none listed, so I removed them and changed the scores for teams 141 and 201.
As far as I know this sheet should have the all of the latest changes incorporated. If any of your teams are incorrect please let me know.
Now that I'm back...
First, thanks for automating the scoring.

Updated sheets will be up momentarily. KC, San Diego and Duluth are the events missing Dean's List and WFFA teams.
Just to check: That score is just for this week, right? Because if it isn't, I think someone has some 'splainin' to do.;)
Also, I'm confused right now. I'm listed with 650 on the sheet, and 767 on the above list. It doesn't help that 1065's Quality award wasn't counted (Cell AC, the one for that award, is overlooked by the summing formula--you may want to rerun the numbers)--but that'll only give 665, leaving 102 points somewhere. I'd figure they're in San Diego, except that my reckoning gives more points than that...
One further comment: Barry isn't in first yet.:ahh: That goes to the one person to break 1000 in a single week so far--and they've got over 100 points on Barry.

Nice catch on the Quality Award. That's a pretty big error on my part. Not only was the Quality Award not being counted, the Spirit award was being counted once at it's point value and once at the Quality point value.
I'll fix up the scoring for all affected teams and post up the corrected sheet.
A note I forgot in my previous post is any team listed in bold for a scored week 2 event is a random replacement for a missing team.

I'll be running scores tomorrow, but I just wanted to get this up here to see if anyone objects.
The Coopertition Award at the Peachtree Regional was not awarded. This was an error as we (3573) put up 122's minibot in our second to last qual match (and informed the volunteers whose mini it was). This was the only mini sharing at the event. After 122 won Chairman's they didn't want to bother finding out why the Coop wasn't awarded, but I plan on scoring it for them.
Any objections?
I don't object.
Now, if Seattle will just finish getting their match scores up...
Heads up:
Hawaii: Team 8 won't be attending. That'll be Chris and Josh needing to deal with that.

I have to disagree, unfortunately. I think it's a bit of a bad precedent. I believe there's been several instances of minibot sharing that have gone unrecognized by the award that we'd have to dig up and point out.

It's time to start prepping for the Michigan State Championship draft! Right now, we're between weeks 4 and 5. Between weeks 5 and 6, we draft MSC.
Schedule: Wednesday night, 4/6. I might fudge the draft back half an hour from the normal start time, due to another commitment that probably won't be over by the time the draft would normally start.
Draft order: Last year, I went the random route, and some folks didn't especially like that. So, I can think of 5 options for picking order:
Total score, highest to lowest.

5. Random order
It's scored with all the other regular season events so it seems to me it should be drafted like them.
Where has the time gone?
It's time to start prepping for the Michigan State Championship draft! Right now, we're between weeks 4 and 5. Between weeks 5 and 6, we draft MSC.
Schedule: Wednesday night, 4/6. I might fudge the draft back half an hour from the normal start time, due to another commitment that probably won't be over by the time the draft would normally start.
Draft order: Last year, I went the random route, and some folks didn't especially like that. So, I can think of 5 options for picking order:
Total score, highest to lowest.
Total score, lowest to highest.
Michigan score, highest to lowest.
Michigan score, lowest to highest.

Who am I to argue with the boss? :D
Seriously though, it's Ed's league so I'm definitely fine with it if he wants to draft it that way.

Also because I am suddenly working all of next Wednesday due to my promotion to Field Supervisor at the Boston Regional I will be busy so I request to move the draft to Tuesday night.

I can
I can run the draft if I'm there.
I just wanted to know if it was ok to move it to a day earlier. I didn't know Eric wouldn't be able to make it.

I can't... but my list sure can! (And maybe enough people pick early to allow live drafting.)
A day earlier is fine by me.

The Michigan State Championship draft will take place Tuesday night at 7pm.
Does anyone have the FiM standings so we can use that to select teams if there is no list?

They were just posted at http://www.firstinmichigan.org/FRC_2011/frc_2011_season.html
It's an Excel document linked right above the event list. They also tell who's qualified for MSC already; it's just a matter of making sure that those teams want to go/can afford to go.

Aw man.
I hope they have the final list of teams by Tuesday night or else we will have to have the draft on Wednesday night.
To be safe it'd probably be best to make lists based off of the top 70 or 75 teams.

I'm mostly worried about someone drafting a team that won't be there.

Are there going to be multiple tiers for this event's draft, or just 1?

There's 64-65 teams and 12 of us. (Last I checked, 54 teams had confirmed.)
Just one tier.

If it's allowed and there are any takers I would be interested in swapping down from the 1st spot to somewhere in the 4 to 10 range for the MSC draft.

I'll have nearly everything scored (missing NC WFFA) as soon as the MSC awards are posted. I only thought to start writing them down about halfway through.

With just the North Carolina WFFA missing here are the Week 6 and final regular season standings. The only possible shuffling of final standings from the NC WFFA is if it's one of Ed's teams he would jump Bethany.

Congrats Kevin for your second Elgin Clock Award. has any one else won the award twice? This marks my third straight year in being the 1st place loser. ha ha.
Also, Thanks Ed, Eric, and Alex for all the work you've put into making this happen again.
And here are the MVP and Rookie of the Year:
MVP: 1114, 139 points in GTR. Runners up: 1023 (138 in Livonia) and 118 (128 in TX).
Rookie of the Year: 3539, 91 points in Waterford and 85 points in Troy to take the #1 and #2 spots in that category. Runner up: 3747 (77 in Duluth).
Just about two weeks to prepare your Championship pick lists, folks! Draft dates TBD. Draft orders are the overall standings.

I'm hoping that the division will be up before the end of next week so we can do the drafts next Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Can someone make a list of the Fantasy FIRST season rankings of the 341 teams (and possibly growing) at the championships for the drafts, please?
Looks like 1732 is registered for the CMP, but it's not in the system, nor have they been placed in a division..

Then they may have to be a free agent. Unless they get assigned before a draft.
They're on Newton.
Then they will be in that draft.
188 is also awaiting a division.

Just to let you know, unfortunately I've had a massive, and unexpected, increase in workload these past few days, so I've been unable to get a list together for the division drafts, and I won't have an opportunity to do so.
Ed, if it's ok with you I'll just take random teams, or if it's less hassle I'll totally understand if you'd rather just remove me from the league, or take whatever action you see fit.
I'm really sorry I was unable to prepare for this, but happy drafting to everyone else.

I'm really sorry I was unable to prepare for this, but happy drafting to everyone else. You came this far Josh I aint bootin' you now(though it should be noted some people simply get by listing a few to a dozen teams they actually want and live with random the rest of the way). I'll give you random teams. There are most likely good teams to still have (I plan on using the OPR ratings - which is the average one not the top score one- since no one prepped the score rankings like I asked).

You both could always live with random like Josh is.
Nice job Barry!
I'm can't make it tonight, so you can go ahead and do randoms for me. If I even do thursday at all, then it'll be a list.

I thought the intention was to have the Championships score stand on it's own (like it was a playoff) not add it on to the regular season total (the regular season buys your your prime draft position).
Therefore I declare Chris is the Fantasy FIRST champion for 2011!

The whole "championship draft order by regular-season position" makes a lot more sense that way. That never really clicked for me for whatever reason .

The overall total score can be used for determining waiver order next year, for those that return. It's also fun to see if you'd move up or down.
